Ray, I loved it. Have been taking pics of everyone's flowers. Even at restaurants. They like to decorate and they don't mind. My wife doesn't mind if i cut some of hers and bring them in to a little light box I purchased. Am shooting macro and then getting some stunning shots of the flowers before they are finished. Didn't know there was such beauty hidden inside the flowers. Have some Orchids, Million Bells, Mandevilla's. Try the last ones's here, they are stunning.

Hi William. I agree, it’s truly amazing what you can see inside a flower. They are all different from each other and special to be sure. Sounds like you are onto something fun and satisfying. Best of luck, have a great week and thanks so much.

That last shot is stunning. All of your examples are inspirational. Hadn’t thought about shooting from the back of the flower, that will be a project for this weekend. This is the 3rd video in a week talking about garden photography, I think someone is trying to tell me something. Actually have a couple around here that might work. Thanks.

Hi Ray, another fantastic video, thank you. My favourite day lily shot is the f/2.8 at the 9:00 mark. Out here in Vancouver we have a sunflower festival happening so I am heading there next week. Thanks for being a great inspiration.

What a coincidence, Ray. I shot this very same bug with my macro lens, but he wasn't on a gorgeous flower like yours, only on a simple stalk of something green. However I should have used my tripod to get the bug really sharp. Thanks for reminding me to not be so lazy ha ha. Thanks Ray, I love your new slogan "shoot small, but think big." Love that opening too. Joan
@macroworld41695 жыл бұрын
Hi there Joan and I hope you are well. As I mentioned in the video, I started out hand holding and I knew I’d have to bring out my tripod eventually so why didn’t I just start with it? Such is the life of a photographer I guess.😊 Joan, thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement. Have a great weekend.

Great tutorial, Scott. I'm wondering about the yellow flower with the black background, if it was made indoors?
@macroworld41695 жыл бұрын
Hi Shirley and thanks. The yellow flower was actually done outdoors and I used a Spotlighting technique in Lightroom. It’s a technique that I explain on another tutorial on my Visual Art Photography channel.

Hey Ray. I really loved the composition of the yellow daisy. The petals coming up from the right bottom of the frame give the photo a little something extra!

As always awesome video Ray, I have the exact same day lilies in the rear yard. I really like the one with beetle on the petals. I took a few shots similar to your with the pollen, your so right because of DOF, you really need to decide where you want to place that focus point. Keep up the great work, you bring inspiration to many people !
@macroworld41695 жыл бұрын
Hey Jules. Yes, that focus point is critical. While I didn’t show it in this video I often focus elsewhere with these types of lilies and have had varying results. Eye of the beholder, right? Anyway, thanks very much and enjoy your weekend.

Hi Ray, thanks for a really instructive video. Did you use just the natural ambient lighting or did you add any lighting?
@macroworld41695 жыл бұрын
Hi there Geoffrey and thank you. I just used the ambient light but I should point out I purposely was shooting on a bright but overcast day so that the light would be diffused.
@MckayGeoff5 жыл бұрын
@@macroworld4169 Thanks for that. You got some very nice pictures. As a learner in macro work I found the aperture settings very helpful. Thanks again.

Love the video Ray. As I get older the local area becomes more attractive. My problem with the tripod if being able obtain an angle, so prefer hand held and if, (as on the coast there seemingly always is a breeze), use a diffused filler flash so I can pump the s/s speed up. Best wishes & good health.
@macroworld41695 жыл бұрын
Hi there and yes, macro can be a lot easier on the body. You mention trouble with angles. I use a Manfrotto ball head and haven’t really had any kind of angle issues. Is this something you’ve tried? Anyway, sounds like you have found a solution so maybe it’s all moot anyway. Have a great rest of the weekend and be well. Thanks so much.

@@macroworld4169 Hi again, yes, I use two Manfrotto tripods: 055 carbon for indoor or beach work and the 'befree' for carrying any distance. Think the real problem is the tripod crouch is getting beyond me - as is carrying anything heavier than a mirrorless (fuji) these days! Getting to mid-seventies and finding using the flash system - though a bit hit and miss - means not staying down in one spot too long. Purchased a Godox flash. Actually purchased the whole system, FUJI XT2 & XPro 2 - for street - plus a few lenses when I part-exchanged my Canon gear. The price I got was far higher than expected. People still like the Canon L lenses and the Mark 3 I'm glad to report! Cheers and thanks for getting back.

PS meant to say they (the tripods) do have ball heads.

old patch The Fringer Pro EF-FX Adaptor works really well with my Canon macro lenses on my Fuji body so it is possible to have your cake and eat it too!

Ah Macro, I love it and hate it....mainly because of limited success on my part and the fact that where I live on the West Coast there is always a factor called wind. Early morning or 'the blue hour' works best for me. Enjoyed your video as alway. Cheers!
@macroworld41695 жыл бұрын
Hi John. Ooohhh I love the west coast. I have to tell you, wind is usually a problem where I am too and though this project was shot outdoors, often I bring my macro projects inside the house. More control. You are 100% right though about the blue hour. Anyway, thanks so much, hope you are well and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hi Ray, I like this project, but if I wanted everything in focus, can I use focus stacking in macro? and should I bring the flower inside to prevent movement (from the wind)?
