Great hard drive for storing projects, nice design which match well with my iMac Pro. Only thing I dislike is that huge front LED which is incredibly distracting if the HDD is placed near by. Really is annoying, I wish Lacie would have make a very small LED barely visible instead, just to indicate that it is working if you look at it, or at least enabling some way to deactivate it. Greetings

I ordered this disk in 6 TB for about the same reasons as presented in this video. For 265 euro's, a lot of high quality storage with a very nice form factor. It'll look good next to my late 2018 Mac mini. I hope that the high transfer speeds of thunderbolt 3 allow me to work straight from and to the disk. I trust I need not back ups because of the 5 yr recovery service. Maybe in 5 yrs I should replace this disk. In various reviews from other buyers I read the disk is extremely silent. That's a big plus. Hopefully the power block is as well. Nice first review of this disk on KZbin.

there is always a chance for files to be lost. data redundancy is the only safety one could find when it comes to storage. Hence way servers running raid are pupular

I love it for the most part, here’s the weird thing I’ve found nothing online about… it’s blinking & making “writing sounds” like it’s doing something while the computer isn’t doing anything. Like, I’m sitting here while my computer is on and it sounding like it’s in the middle of working on something… and nothing is taking place. Should I be concerned? It’s odd. I had an old Mac that did this with it’s internal hard drive, but it only made those sounds when it was being used… like recording audio to a track that the hard drive had saved. I don’t know, super weird. It’s done it since I bought it, but I think it’s strange

Is it quiet? I record in the same space as my hard drive so I need one to be very quiet. Thanks in advance

Weird question: Can I safely use this drive horizontally? I have a section under my desk where I can nicely hide my drives, but only if they are placed horizontally. I wonder if doing that would be risky.

La Cie is actually a pun. The parent company is Seagate, and La Cie is French for "The Company". What's more, the enclosed chip is called a "FireCuda", which presumably is some sort of mythical sea monster. 🌊

I have this HD. And whenever my Mac wakes from sleep mode. It says the external was disconnected and doesn’t read until I restart, sometimes it still won’t.

That would be unacceptable for me and would be the reason I'd buy a G-Technology HDD that doesn't have this problem. Do you have a laptop or desktop Mac?

I don't recognize the issue you mentioned. For years I never turned my Mac mini off and used the sleep mode. Lately I take the effort to turn my Mac off when finishing work behind the computer.

Since this is a desktop drive that needs to be plugged in for power, will the drive shut off immediately and disconnect if there is a power cut? Unfortunately I live in a place with regular/unexpected power cuts.

can you work off directly from Lacie d2 professional drive or you need to copy it to internal drive of Imac?
@ResizeFilms3 жыл бұрын
It's more like a storage HDD, not really to work directly from it as the read/write speed is only about 240 MB/s. For editing high bitrate 4K video directly from it, it's not ideal, I don't recommend. I use SSDs to edit then transfer the finished projects to Lacie, which is great for that as a storage solution only.
@TheFandangovideoguy2 жыл бұрын
@@ResizeFilms Hi there..late to the conversation but here it goes...so 240MB/s is ok for HD (even 1080p 60fps) but not for 4k even low bit rate 60MB/s from a Sony a7iii/a6400 and a Canon 90D? I have a 2tb Sandisk SSD at 900MB/s but I'm waiting for SSD prices to come down! A 8TB (or bigger!) SSD would be fantastic! but too much money for now...I was hoping this drive could be good enough for basic 4k if needed...2 video streams, some titles...music...total video lenght under 15 min...thoughts? It's cheaper now

Setup an OpenVpn client on a linux raspberry Pi. Install pivpn on it. Install a samba server on it. Open a port on your router to communicate with your home vpn. That’s it, you got your own home-cloud.
@haonhaon70516 жыл бұрын
For literally the exact same price, I have a RAID 5 4x5TB storage system (15TB in total!). This is way overpriced! You can get 1.5x the storage, much faster speeds, & full redundancy for that price!
@bibletwink6666 жыл бұрын
Isn't that 20 Tb? Also this one is a single one while you have 4, making this one much more portable.
@haonhaon70516 жыл бұрын
Hi! I am a donut. It's 15 TiB, technically, as 5TiB is used for parity in RAID 5. Also, it's a desktop hard drive... not really made to be portable. But, if you are carrying it around everywhere, there's a much higher chance of it failing, meaning you'd lose everything, whereas with the system I described, even if an entire hard drive catastrophically fails, I will lose zero data.

g0blin Fractal I bought the RAID 5 Enclosure from Newegg.com and the hard drives from eBay.com If you’re looking to keep down the price, make sure you don’t buy NAS on Newegg, just a simple external hard drive bay/enclosure with hardware RAID.

Mine is not.. around 45db. And it doesn't show the little thumbnail as does yours.. Read and Write speads are also lower than yours. Around 180mb/s and 210mb/s read. The fan or the drive (hard to tell) is making a constant slight blowing noise with some ticks and tacks from time to time. Strange is also that even when the iMac is in sleep mode for a good while, the drive boots up. And that with time machine deactivated.. I'm rather unsatisfied at this point. Could I have a defected one? And should I return it? I think I formatted it for Mac. Thx Tom @@macrumors

@@joshua3425 I have 14 LaCie USB drives. All of them run quietly. All of them have good performance. None of them have given me any trouble. I have them running 24/7/365, and I have them protected from dirty power. If I were turning them on and off all the time, then I do not know if that would be a strain that would cause a failure.
