This absolutely breaks my heart. Coach Summitt did not deserve this, not after all that she gave to her players, the University of Tennessee, and basketball in general. She was a remarkable human being that deserves nothing but respect and admiration. RIP Pat, you are missed but will never be forgotten. ❤️

Pat Summitt was and will forever be the GOAT for college basketball. A fact, no disputes. Most winning-est coach- not additional qualifiers needed. Imagine what she would’ve done if she didn’t retire and leave us all so soon. A class act- she exuded what it means to be a coach. And her players showed that every single time they walked out on the court. -when the coach supports you in all areas and isn’t afraid to both call you out and then work with you. You will put out your all for them. She will always be missed. As a VOL some ppl will forever hold a spot in my heart: Coach Pat, Coach Fulmer (they didn’t him so dirty), Payton Manning, Candace Parker, Tamika Catchings, Chamique Holdsclaw, etc. - oh and if you don’t who those talented athletes are- do you really bleed Orange?

Got to meet her twice at UT. The first was when she and Bruce Pearl showed up at a cafeteria to do a raffle. Got a picture with her that's long gone on an old flip phone. She was so sweet and kind. The second time was right before a Lady Vols game. I was in Air Force ROTC at the time (I didn't go into the AF afterwards), and I helped present the colors before a Lady Vols game. We were milling about, getting ready for the presentation when all of the sudden, here comes the famous brown pantsuit. Her blue eyes lit up in a huge smile as she passed us. "Hey, guys! Thanks for what you do!" "Thanks, Coach!" Loved every brief moment with her. Despite her tough reputation, she was kind and loving. Rest in Peace, Coach!

met her at a AAU tournament at Disney World in 2005. Turned around and she was standing there with a few assistants. I told her I know your busy but can we get a few pics. She smiled and said sure. I still have and cherish those pics. My daughter attended her camp at UT in 2011. She was even more approachable then. Best coach ever any sport and gender.

Coach Summitt's one of my role models and I'm a better person for it. I can only imagine the impact she's had on people who've actually been able to work with her. The way she faces adversity is admirable, she doesn't see anything as a problem, she faces it as a challenge. I remember reading what she said when asked what she'll be doing this coming fall. She said "I'll either be at practice or in my office." God bless you Coach, my prayers and best wishes are with you.

I can't speak about Coach Summitt. I did not know her. But I think I can speak from the prospective of her son Tyler. I don't know him. But I think I do KNOW him. My mother transitioned to the arms of Christ Jesus thanks to Alzheimer's at the age of 66 in 2013. I discovered what true love is during the years of her journey with this disease. I learned that true love is the ability to clean feet, comb hair, assist with bathroom situations, and to handle anger with joy. In some ways I thank Alzheimer's for bringing me closer to my mother, of whom I was already close to. My faith tells me that Coach Summitt and my mother, Lula Bennett are having good times with Jesus. And Tyler? Have no fret my brother: we will be with them again and this thing called Alzheimer's will be forgotten. God bless you Tyler, your mom, and my mamma.

14:36 She was a pioneer in the same way Red Aurbach and Billie Jean King were, just to name a few. She made a pathetic salary but she still found the time to drive the bus, wash the uniforms, take the tickets at the turnstiles all while promoting women's college basketball and doing whatever it took to move the sport forward. There will never be another like Pat Summit.
