While everyone obsesses about all the nasty, psychotic shit that happens in this fever dream of a film, I find it disheartening that the score and sound design has been so rigorously slept on. The bit playing here is an absolute earworm of a track, utterly haunting and eerily beautiful.

@@splunkmastah4609 it's definitely a bizarre and sudden twist, and it makes sense when you hear interviews from Phil Tippet explaining his process: there was very little story boarding or coherent structure, the dudes been collecting literal junk and filming whatever the hell he wants for 30 years The end result is that the third act with the Alchemist is basically a whole other story, connected by themes more than narrative: both the assassin (or assassin's? Were they meant to be the same person? It's hard to tell) and the alchemist want to end this world: the difference being the the assassin sees only filth and horror and cares nothing for the inhabitants of the world, and only wants to destroy it. On the other hand, the Alchemist still doesn't seem to care much about anyone's well-being, but he at least admires nature, and can see the beauty in-between the horror, and only wants to create something new

Also be aware there is no story to this madness, the creator even said there is no narrative, there is no story or reason things happen, its pure weird creepy images purely for shock value, he said if he did make a quote unquote "Sequel" thered be a narrative and story but that shit ain't happening ever.

This would've been better if ir was anthology film or a game. Imo it just never feels like there's any tension or anything for me to latch onto, i only latch onto the assasins as characters because they aren't insane grotesque creatures from a sewer grate, you could argue that its supposed to be like that but i just think that's not enough to care about the assassins, they don't show thier character, they don't why we should care. The movie was nothing but disturbing if you like that sorta shit, who am i to judge, but i don't think that makes it an excuse for lazy writing. It really all boils down to idc. I don't care about the assassins, i don't care about the assassins baby, i don't care about the monsters, i don't care about the world. It's grotesque design is great, but there were so many moments when i just felt like it was just mentally exhausting, i was disturbed at the start but soon it just became boring. Do you know how some games have stories that can't be told through a film? Well this movie has the opposite effect. Its a movie with a story that's sucks as a movie but would be awesome as a game. Other than that, there's not much to say about this film, it's disgusting, disturbing and nightmare inducing, but that's all it is. It is an uneventful film that leaves you with a philosophical question "i might need therapy". If you like this film i suggest you watch primal, this show is brutal and also doesn't have any dialogue.
@drewhammond52032 жыл бұрын
I think you're on about this in the wrong way. This was never meant to be a film, so much as an experience. Time consuming stop-motion animation put together over decades of work, and all it amounts to some insane visuals that will stick in your brain until the end of time and little else. Idk if Phil Tippet desired much else to be honest. I know I didn't. I was very satisfied.
@okaymah97462 жыл бұрын
@@drewhammond5203 yeah won't lie this movie is definitely beautiful and it was quite a roller coaster watching this film, but if you wanted me to experience the madness of this world forsaken by god i think an anthology would've been a better approach, episodes showing different parts of the world or maybe turn it into a game. Not saying this movies sucks, no. This movie was definitely something i needed to see because of how saturated the industry is with safe films nowadays i became so bored with all the movies avaliable. This film is exactly like a dream, it's wierd, chaotic, nothing feels real and you know that but your forced to live through this chaotic world until you wake up, but unlike a dream this movie will not be forgotten

I think people forget that a movie doesn't have to have a concret plot that is easy to follow. Character's don't have to have motivation and there doesn't have to be a reason for anything to happen. Rubber followed a similar premise although it had more of a plot that was easier to watch. Rubber is about a homicidal car tire, discovering it has destructive psionic power and the entire premise of that movie was "This is happening for no reason."
