Unrelated to the content, is that a poster of "Cobra"? Also, check out "Renegade" it's a Tom Selleck action movie.

I can't remember all the details, but the first one was very low budget and Australian made. It put Mel Gibson in the spotlight and was a suprise hit. No 2 got a much bigger budget and 3 even bigger, like getting the Hollywood treatment almost. No 1 is still a classic and a good origin story.

Did enjoy this :) The gyro captain and the pilot are actually two separate characters in canon BTW. Even though bruce spence played both characters. Some people say "Blaster" reminded max of his disabled family member from the first movie or it was possibly him. Also, the nukes fell between road warrior and beyond thunder dome, even though it seems like the nukes fell before road warrior.

Max's dilated eye is director George Miller's attention to detail as a doctor as Max suffered an eye injury in MM 2.

Like the leg brace he wears because he was shot in the knee in the first film. Most franchises would just assume you forgot about that. And Miller never makes it a plot device. It's just there.

The reason it says "For Byron"... Byron Kennedy, George Miller's food friend and copeoducer was killed in a helicopter crash while scouting locations for this film. George almost didnt go through with the film due to bereavement but he eventually finished it by co directing it with George Ogilve who'd helped him with a tv project. Tina Turner was apparently a big fan of Mad Max 2 before she was in 3 and since the film came out she said it was one of the projects shes most proud of... she loved the character and being a part of the Mad Max universe... she also gave the film 2 Top 40 US singles. "We Dont Need Another Hero (Beyond Thunerdome) actually got to #2, and "One of the Living" got to #15. She also would sometimes play Auntie Entity on stage at her concerts.

I remember I loved this one the most back when I was a kid. I guess because there were kids in this one and mostly because of cool chase scene in the end.

This one is actually my favorite of the three films, mostly because I was 14 years old when Beyond Thunderdome came out and it was my first real introduction to the world of Mad Max. But I also like how this one ends on a more hopeful note than the previous films. I also love the score composed for this film, as well as the two songs by Tina Turner. We Don't Need Another Hero is my favorite Tina Turner song.

This franchise is a great example of a unique character being given serious consideration by the writers as it went from a low budget effort to enough tongue tips to entice Tina Turner to take part. Sorry about all those 'T's. It went into cult and then legend status and is one of the few IP's to see a proper resurgence without taking away from the originals. Well Played.

Loved these films back in the 80's - The myth of max is now told by both the kids who left the desert and the kids who were left behind - He WAS in fact captain walker to those kids who he went after, but they knew his real name, because of the old dwarf guy " who you?" "me? Max"(master) - but the kids left behind, never knew his real name, so on the cave painting he is still "captain walker" - so as the myth of max is passed down the generations, by these different tribes, and passed between tribes in campfire stories, things get emblellished, or mixed up....just beautiful worldbuilding ! I think Auntie spared max because despite of all the trouble he caused, she could ultimately see that he was a good, decent man. There is theory that in Fury Road , the "Max" character isnt actually Max,that he is in fact the Feral Kid from Mad Max 2 - one to ponder!

The bald guy you guys hate who keeps coming back is a rock musician called Angry Anderson. He had a hit in the 90's called 'Bound for Glory' that might have made it to number 1 in Australia I think. It might be worth taking a look at it on KZbin for some fun if anyone is interested.

And in this blighted place, he found the will to live again, going back to the kids at the oasis to lead them, they're all going to live a long time and they're all going to be thankful.

1. Miller did not want to make this film...at first. He wanted to make a sort of "Lord of the Flies" thing, but the studios wanted Mad Max, so...they combined the two into one movie! 2. Aunty Entity is not really a villain but rather an antagonist. Her character is not entirely unsympathetic, unlike "the Toecutter" or "Humungous". There's a certain honor to her. "Well aren't we a pair...raggedy man." 3. Retconning explanation for the reappearance of the gyro captain and other inconsistencies in the three (4) movies is that the stories of Mad Max are actually legends told from far in the future where characters and places and exact events are often jumbled and contradictory depending on who's telling the stories. Or...maybe just made up, or maybe actually tales of different heroes mushed up together, or all the above...which I like actually... Once one of my least favorite of the series, I, like most critics, have come to like this one more and more over the years.

Fury Road is literally Mad Max 4. It just got delayed over and over until it finally got made and they recast Max because Mel Gibson was just too old. Lots of people say it is a reboot. It is not. It is the continuation of the story some time after Thunderdome. After you watch that you can check out the timeline videos made by, hmm, I think the channel might be called Mad Max Bible. It goes over everything in all four movies as to when they happen. Edit: Yes, that’s the channel name.

We do need another hero! I love the storytelling in Beyond Thunderdome. The scene of the children telling the apocalypse and their origin is so well constructed and cute. The use of real oral history traditions like repetition and call/response in the telling, as well as their 'picture box' on a stick, is really great and helps it feel real; as well as their degenerated linguistics. George Miller would take this kind of storytelling to the next level in Fury Road.

Late getting in here, but when I was in my early 20s and saw this...a lot of people were asking about the kids left behind...and I didn't understand their wondering about it. Max knew where those kids were, and given the desolate desert...that oasis with the kids would have been a logical choice for him to head to. I just figured Max led the rest of his life with the kids, teaching them what he could...and maybe, even at some point trying to find the lights of the cities.

I **HIGHLY** recommend watching the music video for this movie from Tina Turner. "We Don't Need Another Hero". The song points out that the children in this movie are most likely the last to be born after the "Poxyclips", because the radiation may have made everyone sterile. To be honest, I'm going to go watch that video right after this one. =D I'll link it, if you'd like.

This movie copped a lot of crap at the time for being the worst of the 3 original films, but time has been very kind to it. It's still my least liked film from the trilogy but it holds up well and is a fun watch. I always thought the ending with Auntie Entity letting Max leave was that much of the film established Bartertown as a place of trade and her actions being business that she's doing for the benefit of her home, with the children on the plane having escaped there was no benefit for her or the town in continuing and that Max had earned her respect, she lets him leave, also knowing that him being isolated in the desert he's no threat to her any longer. Also, the bald headed henchman who keeps popping up through the film is portrayed by Angry Anderson, who is a singer of a band called Rose Tattoo who have been pretty well known in Australia since the mid 70's.

if you're of a certain age i suspect this is the mad max movie you've seen the most, just because it was on cable all the time in the late 80s/early 90s. definitely the weakest of the four - your tolerance for wacky kid b.s. has to be really high to enjoy the second half - but everything up through the "face the wheel" scene is great.

The weakest of the original trilogy for me, but it still has a certain bony charm. Good to see them getting some love and attention. I'd like to suggest the film, Doomsday, a Neil Marshall film, director of Dog Soldiers and The Descent, all are worth a watch, but Doomsday has quite a similar feel to the Mad Max films in terms of the breakdown in society.
