“She’s the lasta the V8s!” ….. “600 horsepower through the wheels with the blower!” The MFP garage mechanic, “Barry,” is one of the more under-appreciated characters in the film. It was the details of his garage-scene dialog here, introducing Max to the supercharged V8 MFP Pursuit Special, that helped create the apparent invincibility of the car. Not to mention its legendary carry-over status in Mad Max 2 (a/k/a The Road Warrior).

His last friend (a dog too) whom he could trust, with whom he felt calmer on the road. Although the car detonated due to a trap set by Max, it looked like the Interceptor sacrificed himself to save his owner...

if anyones wondering what the point of the yellow bucket was, the air scoop in the first film wasn't actually attached to the engine and was powered separately, and this was covered up by the bucket, for the second film they fixed that little issue

This scene was filmed in the Melbourne University underground car park. The cone shaped pillars have trees above them and the cone has space for the tree root system.

Bought a 68 Camero SS back in the early 80s replacing the blown engine no thanks to the previous owner…always had this scene in my head while puting a new stock engine in her trying to put some life into her. Still kicking my own ass selling it.

I love Barry's enthusiasm explaining what he's built. Like it's his crowning achievement. In reality a stroked out 351 with a functional blower and a 100 shot of nos this really could have produced 600 horses.

I wonder if anyone ever noticed the similarities between an old film called "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" ( Peter Fonder & Susan George ) they take a police man into a garage & start up engine on of hot police car to find & apprehend them , Reminded me of this scene & its a pre dates Mad Max , a couple of other things are similar too ( mabey G Miller saw this & was inspired ) ??
