Mad Max was one of the few players that was not intimidated by MJ and one of the very few that could (relatively) contain him. The Rockets were the only team that consistently beat the Bulls in the regular season during the Bulls' championship run

From 1991-1993, Houston Rockets were 5-1 versus the Three-Peat Chicago Bulls. In a hypothetical 1994 NBA Finals with Jordan, the Bulls were NOT an automatic winner. Upsets do happen, and with Olajuwon and Maxwell, fierce court warriors, the Bulls would not have intimidated them like they did to other teams in the Finals. Remember, Olajuwon historically took down the defending NBA Champion LA Lakers in 1986, took out Magic Johnson, Abdul Jabbar, Worthy...and Olajuwon showed no fear in fighting back against the dirty-play Lakers in the Forum. So if someone could take down another NBA Champ, it's Olajuwon.

Cornbread was an outstanding basketball player. He was rarely flashy, but he was fundamentally solid, played smart ball, and you could depend on him to do what was in the best interest of the team and winning games. As a wily veteran late in his career he knew his role was to get under opponents' skin, get them out of rhythm, and be an enforcer protecting his younger talent. He didn't really have much of a short fuse in the early 80's playing with the Celtics, which is why I figure he developed this "short fuse" on purpose later on. These were calculated altercations on his part, and mostly directed at the other team's top star.
