thats interesting, the only thing I'd change about his vids is the music. I often wish with so many tastes in viewer music, creators would upload music-less vids alongside the standard vid. I'd much prefer watching with my own playlist not clashing with the creator chosen music.

Wow- super happy with the outcome. Was concerned about the added 20 Lbs. on the nose, the smaller overall blade length, AND the interaction with all of the data being interpreted correctly. Faultless computer decisions, tons of power in all ranges, attitudes and altitudes, no noted heaviness or loss of 'tossability' caused by nose heaviness, simple to use (no pilot overload) and no new bad behaviors. A total win in the super lightweight Kitfox. The Freedom Fox is a completely new machine- really crazy impressive. I genuinely like how easy it is to have and use and well-- No crazy training and planning to manage the process. Sweet. Very cool rig and so far away from the start of 2018, right? Carbon Cub, Highlander, Maule and now Kitfox at the top of the heap of STOL aircraft. (Draco excluded as a M. Patey 'One Off'). What an awesome trip, Trent- thanks for taking all of us along. Legit question: Is there a Kitfox version with a larger empannage? One you could swap in from an older or newer design? That would keep it pure Kitfox and increase rudder authority at super low speeds? It would be nice to have the added control while the wing is still flying...

I enjoy your videos. I had been on several float plane fly in trips in Northern Canada before, but that felt like a commercial airline flight compared to my first backcountry flight in Alaska. The pilot landed on a gravel beach, within a river on one side and a stream on the other. I thought there was no way we could land there, let alone take off from that short of "runway". It was like being on a roller-coaster. He dropped us off and took off with room to spare. But, I had my doubts about the return trip; with the extra weight of the 2 of us and our gear. I was blown away by how fast he got us in the air and how steep he climbed to get up and out of the valley. The fishing was excellent, but the highlight of the trip was the bush flight.

Hey Trent, I know this is an older video but I’ve got a question when you were running this prop. I have a 915 with the Airmaster constant speed prop. I can run full manifold pressure at climb RPM of 5500. How does the computer with MT know when to pitch to prop after the five minute max power limitation? Or do you have to pull the power back? If so, it would seem you would effectively be climbing at a lower manifold pressure than the Airmaster? Just trying to compare of the performance differences to see which one is better.

Do you have VGs on the underside of your horizontal stabilizer? If not, you might be able to delay the tail-plane stall with them, so the limiting factor is your wing's AOA. (I say underside of the stabilizer because that's the "top" or low-pressure side of that airfoil)
@jamesburleson19165 жыл бұрын
VGs might not be very effective with the lack of airfoil on that elevator. I think they work better on the wing type than the board type.
@TgardnerH5 жыл бұрын
@@jamesburleson1916 That would make sense, though I wonder if "a little bit better" might be enough improvement for this application.

Do you have VGs on the bottom of your tail Trent? If not I'll send you a set if you'll install them to get your elevator effectiveness up a bit and your stall speed lower.
@portnuefflyer5 жыл бұрын
Nice to offer Joa! Yeah, if he doesn't, he for sure should have, especially with all that extra weight added on the nose. They will make the elevator more effective near the stall. None of these recent mods have helped his landing speed, just increased his approach speed and added weight.

Have to agree. Much as I enjoy Trent's videos, he's obviously getting compensation in some form or other from the various companies whose products he raves about on this vlog. There's nothing wrong with that as long as he discloses it. He SHOULD be compensated, as he's a terrific marketeer/demo pilot. It would add greatly to the integrity of his brand if he would be more open about it. It would be very easy to do, and what is the downside? People going to start calling him a shill for Kitfox/Rotax/Garmin/MT? Highly doubt it.

That appears to be a full 360 barrel roll on the intro. How often do you barrel roll it? Great video as usual.
@KaDaJxClonE5 жыл бұрын
That is an aileron roll. Barrel roll is basically a back flip but in a plane. That was done using an older engine, and it will starve while inverted, so he could only be upside down for a few seconds before the engine shuts off. His new plane is EFI so it should be able to just fly upside down. He doesn't roll it very often, or at least he doesn't show it in his videos.
@hotrodray98845 жыл бұрын
barrel rolls are 1g manuvers and the engine and airplane dont know that they are upside down or rolling.
@shawnmenzenberg64425 жыл бұрын
1 G was my understanding. Like Bob Hoover does with a cup of tea on the dash. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGrTp3qVj7ihecU Not an aileron only roll that involves true inverted gravity flight. The question was for Trent because it appears to be the Freedom Fox performing the maneuver.

Hey Trent. Can you explain what a constant speed prop is and what the benefits of it are compared to other styles? The video you made of the ground loop “monster” was a great video. The way you explained it was super easy to understand. Thanks for all the great videos you put your hard work into!!!
@zolotiyeruki5 жыл бұрын
If Trent doesn't reply, I can hopefully shed some light. A CS prop has a mechanism to change the pitch of the propeller blades mid-flight. A fixed-pitch prop is usually optimized either for climb or cruise. If you have a cruise prop, your takeoff performance suffers, but you get higher top speeds and cruise efficiency. A climb-optimized prop will get you off the ground quicker, but won't give you such good cruise performance. A CS prop gives you the best of both worlds, but is also a bit heavier, more complex, and more expensive. If you have a traditional carbureted engine, a CS prop will give you a third knob to manipulate. Trent's setup, with a fuel-injected engine and an EMU that manages the propeller pitch automatically, brings the knobs down to one.

I'm really curious how you " dnynamically balance in place " a prop ! ( I have some ideas of my own but they're based upon dated tech ) BTW I see your KF and new engine/prop combo performs pretty much per reality i.e the faster you go the more fuel you burn to ovear come the increased drag component . I suspect that "single-lever" control is a gas and much better than the old mechanical throttle/prop hooks . All thats left is seeing what essential equipment you can move aft to improve the CG ! Looks like a nice flying aircraft ! Love to get my hands on it !

@wernerwillemse36025 жыл бұрын
Love your vids Trent, but are you honestly sure your elevator stalls before your main wing does (7:52)? That would cause the plane to be dynamically unstable, i.e the stall would not tend to self-correct... That would get a lot of absentminded pilots killed, so I believe Kitfox would have ensured the main wing ALWAYS stalls first....The only type of plane in which the elevator stalls before the main wing, yet you retain dynamic stability, are Cunard designs, where the elevator is in front of the main wing, like the Beachcraft Starship, LongEZ, Piagio Avanti etc...
@bryanknight91475 жыл бұрын
The pitching moment of the wing and the cg forward of the wing are both pushing the nose down. The horizontal stabilizer is flying upside down, keeping the nose level. If it stalls, the plane will nose down. With a canard, the wing and stab (canard) are both lifting, hence the improved efficiency. If the wing stalls before the canard, the plane will pitch up, exacerbating the stall, so canards have a static angle of attack to drive them toward stalling first.
