Weiland was versatile. A literal man of multiple voices who proved on record he could knock it out of the park in multiple genres. Layne was musically one-dimensional. I like how the whole video is centered on John Baker Saunders. Everyone knows Layne, and Mike is shown very little in this. Barret gets some screen time, but the focus is clearly on John. It's almost like it was filmed in a way to say "I will be gone soon, but please don't forget about me.......you'll remember the rest of the guys for years to come, but let everyone know that I existed, too!" RIP both Layne and John Baker Saunders!

I've been a fan of Layne's since my older brother first introduced a then 12 year me to AIC back in like 1995 and I still find myself now at 39 still in complete awe of his talents as a singer. He really was absolutely like no one else. He elevated every piece of music he sang on to such a way higher level. I'll still find myself listening to a random AIC or Mad Season song I've heard like 300 times before and still be like surprised at how absurdly fucking good he sounds, like it's somehow new to me. Like I want to run outside and grab a stranger and be like "have you heard Layne Stanley sing 'God Am' by Alice in Chains before!?".

Yea, it's funny because music was always a part of religion, which is why they built the cathedrals -- for the sound of the music, and the impact. It ain't like that, anymore. But the response that people feel in listening to Layne is that same feeling. It elevates our human experience in a universal way that so many can relate to. I wish everyone would listen to Layne! His voice could pierce someone with a heart of stone and bring them back to life, lol. His voice, and the spirit he injects into his vocals, is unmatched.

Love this!!! I was able to track down videos of this performance in the past which was recorded in Eddie Vedders radio studio in his house to broadcast over vedders radio station . You couldn't see any of layne except from behind. It focused on Baker and the drummer. I love to see this rare video with the angle on layne. Beautiful man he was!

Same here man. I am an ex H user, (I used, to suppress childhood trauma). People use for various reasons, but usually to hide some pain or other. I too, have only just started listening to the older Layne stuff. This appeared because of that. So grateful I saw this now. Brought a lump to my throat. All the talent, that has been lost to heroin, upsets me. Hope youre well, my friend.

One thing I love most about Layne was how raw, brutally honest his lyrics were . . . no sugarcoating bs . . . never feared of speaking the unspoken. One of the reason he kept messing up 'Sludge Factory' at the Unplugged Sessions was because the Columbia Records Executives were sitting in the front and that song was about his dissatisfaction with them and dissing them.
@synthesis123 жыл бұрын
One of my favorite heavy riffs from this album, I wonder if Layne came up with it or Mike. It's way out there and sounds perfect. Such a phenomenal album, and one that I liked a lot when it came out in the 90's but I've listened to more and more as I got older, especially these live versions which crush the album versions, especially Live at the Moore. Layne was such a beast, one of the best, and just threw it away. Sucks, but not like we didn't see it coming.

@@maliktp13 amazing stuff.. Such a simple riff but sounds so sick. it's infectious, and this song never gets old. He had so much raw talent. I always wonder what stuff he was supposedly working on in those lost years of his life (besides the few things he sang on like the Another Brick in the Wall cover).
