Cracking collection and very well put together video. 1980 is hardly vintage mate! I will see what I have kicking around in my to do pile, I might have a 1980 Seiko. Wow your grandads Rolex is just killer! that patina is well earned by decades of use. Quality. Oh and if you want a Willard without the pricetag get a Steeldive 1970 as they are amazing for £80! I dont really do homage but had to pick one up and was shocked at how good it is.

If you want a smaller speedy but not so small as the reduced, check out the speedy racing 40mm. The lug to lug is around 45mm. It's a gem.

Great SOTC, I'm really enjoying your content so far. One thing that you may or may not know about the Arnie original the H558-5009. Schwartznegger wore it in 5 of his movies and it was his personal watch. He first wore it in Terminator (1984) and actually James Cameron who directed him in that movie also has one. He subsequently wore it in Commando (1985), Raw Deal (1986), Predator (1987) and Twins (1988). His wearing the watch greatly helped the popularity of the watch and the success of this model for Seiko. It is also horologically important as it is the first Ani-Digi watch in the world. I personally have the SNJ029 from the Urban collection (tan strap with black shroud, bezel and dial with superb cream batons instead of dots, super comfy tan strap, love, love, love this watch), which for my money is the best of the for reissues, but that's just me!!

Nice one Russ! ... the collection is coming along nicely. Ive got a few of these and couldn't agree more! Re the speedy, Id agree with a few others, go the professional. Size wise its doable with our sized wrists. I just sold my beloved speedy triple date MK40 (hodinkee). awesome watch and such unique colors, great complications etc ... I already miss it :-(. The 39mm size was good, but at times it did wear small (usually after wearing larger pieces) .. another 1-2mm wider and 1-2mm thinner and it would have stayed for ever! .. but instead its going into the fund for the next grail piece. Ride on MWC!

Great collection Russell, way too many for me though. I like the fortis best . Busy dial but a beautiful piece. If you want a no problem real vintage piece go for a tag heuer formula one chronograph ca1212-1. They have them in white black red blue and yellow dials. At 38mm they are a fantastic wear and look so unique. I've worn so many watches over the years, but these tags have a really special feel and an instant kerb appeal. And the president bracelets are so comfortable. The black plastic bezels are really different than anything else out there. I absolutely love mine and being a quartz , it's an easy daily wearer. Rado are another amazing Swiss brand that are overlooked. The original diver is amazing, just so well made and bullet proof. The captain cook is also very light , especially on the leather deployment watch strap, you wouldn't believe it's an automatic., you can get them in various sizes now , which is great. As for a speedie I would go for the original design one with all white hands, maybe get an auto because some are hand winding , and hesalite glass, although sapphire is better in a way, but I do think hesalite are more charming, just like yourself fella !!!

You prefer the Tudor bezel to the Sinn? I have the Sinn and a similar Damasko and I love the mechanical precision of their clicks. Tudor felt silkier and less precise.

I've got to say that you have an amazing taste :) SPB143 is one of my "grails" currently, such a wonderful, classy watch, and also the Stowa Flieger Klassik (not sure if I'll ever be able to afford either though). BTW, before the SPB, the position of a "grail" used to be occupied by the BB58, but for some reason this Seiko just works better for me (but of course I have to handle both to know for sure). John! Thank you so much for watching my friend! Appreciate that! Like me you love vintage watches made modern!;) although the BB58 is on another level to the SPB, they both are fantastic. The dimensions on the Tudor are perfect for me. With the SPB you still get the same sweep as a 7s26 (SKX, Seiko 5) just with a longer power reserve . For that , the Tudor is far superior . Still hasn’t stopped me from getting one though!;)

@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR they surely are in different weight classes. I think I just like the SPB's hands a tiny bit more than Tudor's. Spec-wise (again, I haven't handled the watches, so my opinion is solely based on what Professor Google and fellow watch enthusiasts can tell me about them), SPB looks like a perfect upgrade compared to my SKX007. Still wouldn't sell the SKX, although it seems to me that its price is going to be comparable to the SPB's in a couple of years :)

At first I wasn't too taken by the Squale 1521 but that's because photos simply don't do it justice 👌😄 As a young student I'm quite early on in my watch collecting journey, I can't go hungry for a watch 🤣. However, this is definitely next on my bucket list, it reminds me of my favourite Drink IRN-BRU 🤣

I currently have 17 watches, mostly gate way level including a Tissot automatic, Bulova lunar pilot, Bulova retro Computron re-issue, Seiko Flighty and quite a few Casio. For the future I would look at getting a Yema Superman and eventually an Omega Constallation. I love your show, I will keep on watching. Cheers
