@PingMe23
@PingMe23 4 жыл бұрын
"Everybody wants to rule the world" is my favorite song of all time. With that said, I would support it being turned into a highly processed, bubblegum pop song. The lyrics are about corruption and thirst for power, something we're still seeing too much 35 years after the song's release. Yes, the song is pop-ish already, but I'd listen to a cover dripping with saccharine sarcasm.

The various covers of Mad World all sound like the varying stages of depression. The faster tempo (usually a rock or metal cover) sound like the mania that often occurs when angry or frustrated while being depressed. The slower (usually piano driven) versions sound like the nihilistic crash after the mania where you're teetering on the edge of succumbing to the depression.

I could not disagree more. Sure, they're both playing power chords on 8th notes most of the time but that's 99% of hardrock/punk songs The timbre is so different! The Offspring song has a lot more highs and mids in the tone, referring to the EQ; it's "bumped." The Bros here are utilizing a "cut" tone and it sounds world's apart to me. I think the offspring is using tube or analog amps as well, because their sound has a lot more clarity and attack, while The Bros. are using modern, digital amplifiers, resulting in more even dynamics and a denser distortion; at least, that's what is sounds like to me. I would compare the guitar tone in this track to a lot of post-hardcore from the early 2000s.
@tysej4

@@Postdotfuzz You know, taking your time to write all that, some might call it weird. But I think in a way what OP said resonated with you... @@fernandocillo8905 i actually think it's the drum sound design and the way they are structured that make it sound like gone away in my opinion although the guitar does on occasion give me a pang of gone away but i think that's more to do with the chords used than the guitar sound. but i definitely hear it too.

Lye By Mistake or Sunn O))) could be considered two different takes on what "abstract metal" could be.

So heavier than average Prog? Or like Mastadon. Maybe Gojira? I'm pretty sure there's Stoner Metal. Definitely Tool. It's pretty much been done if you know where to look.

Soooo excellent! Somehow virtually the same manic energy as the underappreciated original but with all that righteous modern shredded edge

This sounds nice, but I think that when you make a metal cover, you should also make your voice a bit rougher to fit the genre better. I'm no expert though.

Metal doesn't need to be really heavy to count as metal. I think his voice fits into the genre very naturally as is. If anything I respect the restraint on their part.

Not necessarily rougher, but fuller and with more passion/desperation, to fit the lyrics.

The original version of this is one of my favorite tunes. This cover matches (and perhaps even exceeds in some ways!) the Tears for Fears version. Fabulous stuff!
