Formulation matters for azelaic acid. In the US medical studies show 15% prescription gel penetrates better than 20% prescription cream, so oddly the 15% delivered more to the skin than the 20% cream

I think gels in general might deliver many ingredients better than cream. I’ve bought from brands that sell the same hyperpigmentation product in both cream & gel form and it seems like the Gel always works better.

Finacea is a gel , Azclear is in a cream . Its hard to formulate with .
@sjkcmd
@sjkcmd 2 жыл бұрын
@@johncheffy4775 in the US I have only gotten generic versions. The prescriber can specify gel or cream but the manufacturer is up to the pharmacy and can change with each refill.I think those are the brand names you used. . I am doing a short trial of adding hydroquinone 4% prescription for melasmato--the first generic tube was an ointment and somewhat gritty and hard to spread, but better if I put the MAS serum on first. When I got the next tube from a different manufacturer it was a thin cream which at first seemed easier to use, but actually spread too widely and too much came out of the tube with the tiniest squeeze. Now I appreciate the first manufacturer more. The only way to get a specific generic is to call each pharmacy to see which they have that month as the chains buy from the cheapest supplier and can change suppliers month to month if not week to week.

For those in the US, I just order from the EU website, to get the 15%. I have to wait a little bit for shipping, but it is totally worth the wait. I also order with the save 3 feature, buy 3 bottles and get a discount. I usually buy 6 at a time and that gets me through most of a year. I took your advice on Azelaic Acid and FT about two years ago. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!💖💖💖

I didn't find azelaic acid in my own skincare till I was 44year and suffering with Roseaca. I knew it was used by dermatologists on prescription but never realised it was in over the counter products. I have used The Ordinary 10% and Dermatica 20% but now I have it under control the 5% in the Mad about Skin super serum is perfect for maintenance 👍😁❤️

I love AA... and best of all, more brands are releasing Azalaic based products!! We can only get 10% without a script, but I really feel it has made a huge difference. I use it with Tranexamic Acid and Adapalene (with some BHA and AHAs also.) I actually use thicker AA & TA serums as the first layer in my "retinol sandwich" instead of a moisturizer, and have had really good results. I seem to use a lot of acids, but theyve made significant difference in the texture of my skin I have from all those little shattered glass scars and any acne pigmentation. I use most of my anti aging actives in the morning, and save the acids for PM when I can top them all off with good PM moisturizing creams & thick summer gels. Thank you for all your experiences you share with us all!! So appriciative!! Your advice has made such a huge difference to my skin (even if I can't find all those great UK products out here in Arizona.) 💖💖

I actually started off by using Naturium’s 10% as it was most readily available and love it (though I’m aware of your feelings on the brand 😅). I JUST RECEIVED my first bottle of the Facetheory AZ acid this week - and I found it because if YOU 💗💗💗 thank you for all of your videos- you truly have changed my life and skincare … and I can’t wait to let you know how I love the new Facetheory! ♥️♥️♥️

It’s an amazing ingredient. But as with most acids way overused. Once a day or every other day will mostly do the trick and deliver great results without damaging the natural skin barrier. Azelaic acid also has a synergistic relation with specific other actives (not limited to vit C and, salicylic acid and niacinamide). Optimum concentration is key for azelaic acid and alongside used synergistic actives. Using high concentrations and superhigh concentrated acids is bound to lead to compromised skin barrier and all related skin issues. Ps. azelaic acid and bakuchiol is a holy combination 😇

Do you have any favourites to recommend?
@Inisiarev
@Inisiarev 2 жыл бұрын
@@julieme7927 Any proper recommendation is nearly impossible, not knowing other skincare actives used. The Face Theory Lumizela has a beautiful formulation, however is very potent with a 15% concentration. Definitely not and everyday product and most surely not twice a day on a daily base. Amazingly efficient product. The Paula’s Choice 10% Azelaic acid booster is a nice option too. Advantage to most other products is the 10% concentration of Azelaic Acid. (pretty well tolerated by many skins) combined with 1% salicylic acid. Azelaic acid and salicylic acid are synergistic (boosting each others efficacy). Some. skins might be tolerating the latter on a daily base at first, I would still never recommend daily use. The skin barrier will suffer in time. It (non daily application-every other day application) might take a bit longer for the skin to get better, but a clearer skin with intact barrier stays much better over time and stays better much more consistent. I. hope this information did help you a little. Take care, happy Saturday 👍🏽

The Ordinary’s AZA is what I’ve been using for a few years now and I really like it. Admittedly, this particular formulation can be a bit tricky to use. According to the website, The Ordinary’s AZA is best used at the end of your skincare routine, after moisturizer and before sunscreen, and applied in the tiniest amount only to the areas that need it, like on pimples and around the nose. This is not an all-over the face type of product. Once I figured that out, I no longer had any issues with this AZA pilling. I willing say if you try this product and use it last after your moisturizer, give it a few minutes to settle into your skin before applying your sunscreen. (And, yes, always remember to apply sunscreen!)
@fragitude
@fragitude Жыл бұрын
I made basically the same comment then scrolled down and saw yours. I knew from my experience with treninoin gel pilling that using it last solved the problem at night. So since I heard this product could do the same thing I decided to only use it in the AM and use it last and I too have not had any pilling. Glad to hear you can put sunscreen over it because seeing as it's winter time, cloudy, and I stay indoors 99% of the time I find sunscreen pointless this time of year.

Dermatica does a 20% azelaic acid that you don't need a prescription for. Not sure how they've done it, but it's the first 20% product available OTC in the UK. You can order it online from their website. The formulation's the best I've found - no pilling whatsoever.

I accidentally found azelaic acid. I was using dermatica tretinoin 0.1% with niacinamide 5%. I inadvertantly (and stupidly) tried a new serum with niacinamide 10%. I developed a niacinamide sensitivity and couldn't tolerate any niacinamide. I had to change my dermatica prescription. They wont do tret alone so I took tret+azelaic acid 15%. I don't have and but do have mild melasma ave wanted to combat aging. The addition of azelaic changed my skin much more than tret alone. I know use azelaic acid twice a day. I use either the facetheory US 19% serum or prescription 15% gel (covered100% by my insurance). I love that in addition to the azelaic acid in your serum. Really a miracle to me.

Hi Rob I use the 15% Finnacea gel on prescription from my GP for rosacea and have for well over a year. Prior to that I used the G&G Apad and before that the Garden of Wisdom version, as my starter product for over a year also. I'm probably nearly at the three year point too of using this ingredient. I do get much more benefit from the 15% than the other two, but it is stronger and my skin copes better with it as a stand alone active in a single routine. I tend to use it day about with either a retinoid or 1% BHA. I don't get stinging/prickling (minor in the beginning), but it can be a bit drying. I very first heard of azelaic acid from Dr Sam Bunting and found the 10% GofW version which was a bit gritty (since reformulated to the same derivative as the G&G version). Despite being a bit gritty, it did layer much better than the ordinary version and was in a serum format. The 15% version works really well for me and I have no need to go up to 20%. My prescription is paid for by the NHS here in Scotland, so I have no need to buy the OTC versions anymore either. Despite using it for rosacea, I have had notable fading of some freckles as a side benefit. My skin doesn't seem to like tranexamic acid and I certainly couldn't use both together in the same routine. I do use niacinamide in the same routine though. It is a multi purpose ingredient and an essential in my own skincare routine. Rosacea is a chronic condition which flares and ebbs, so there isn't really a low maintenance dose for me as such. I just use it every second day normally and every day during a flare. Best wishes.

I started with The Ordinary 10%. My Dermatologist prescribed FINACEA 15% which I'm using for few months now but honestly I don't see any results. Maybe they are very suddle. My melasma is way better since I use Spiranolactone, Tranexamic acid pills, Tretinoin .025% wich is fabulous! and it definitely is way lighter than before so maybe the combination of all these are helping to make it brighter. When I get a cystic acne, the scar is there for months and the bump too. Very annoying. Even with all these great products. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Have a great day!

I am taking azelaic acid since 5 weeks now and I seem to be purging again and again after I already thought I was on the way to get better. Is that normal? How long did you guys take it until it mainly cleared the acne?Also next to my nose my skin looks very rough with little scars, thick skin, big pores. I just hope it will get better over time..

I was in your situation and it took me a week of severe redness and then peeling and lots and lots of stinging and itching and hurting and blow drying my face before I hit the sweet spot and my face got used to it and my rosacea disappeared! So I'd say maybe do every other day and for sure for sure apply a moisturizer, plain one with no vitamin c or anything as it did help for me cut down the stinging big time, or a smaller AA percentage but for me 15% did tge trick. Anything under and it's no results at all
