I saw Madalyn Murray O'Hair three days before she disappeared. I was with my folks at a restaurant called Coco's in Austin, Texas, where I still live (the restaurant is no longer there). We had just given our order to the waiter, and I started checking out the people in the restaurant, as many do. We were near the front of the restaurant, and I caught sight of Jon Murray sitting at a table in the rear, although his name didn't register. When I realized who he was, I craned a little bit and saw Madalyn, then Robin. It was obvious they were deep in discussion. About twenty minutes later they got up and left. It was the only time I saw Madalyn Murray O'Hair.

Saw her at FSU Law School when she gave a talk which included a heap of iconoclastic remarks as well as tons of curse words. She was a delight. Then I saw her in New York where the president of the Humanist Society tried to upstage her. She shone through though and she was brilliant! A shame she was violently killed and dismembered by the "all loving of all God's creatures " people. An example of the darkest of people's rationalizations stemming from an inability to stand on one's two feet without an absurd mental crutch. "By your fruits ye shall be known."

Bob Jones: I beg to differ. I am a born-again, Bible-believing Christian who felt very sad at her passing. Please keep in mind something. Man-made religious ceremonies (and religion in general) are often lauded by some of the biggest hypocrites in the world. I understand and appreciate an atheist’s opinion in that regard. But I can tell you that I would not be here today if it wasn’t for the Lord Jesus Christ, and the more I learn of who He really is and what He did for all of humanity, I love and appreciate Him even more. I won’t get into the details about what was going on in my life at the time I made the decision to accept Him as my personal Savior, but religion had nothing to do with, I can tell you that.

Bob Jones : Thanks 👍. There is nothing worse than a “holier than thou” person who confesses to be a Christian. Oftentimes, the ones who judge other people on how they should live their lives have the most to hide. I’ve known a few. They are pedophiles, embezzlers, and thieves. It’s no wonder that people want nothing to do with that type of “Christianity”. I completely understand.

I share your sentiments exactly. How courageous was she really! I also don't consider myself an atheist but have constant inner struggle with organized religion, especially when I see how UNCHRISTIAN the so-called Christians or God-fearing people act towards others. Frankly, if we all treated each other with love, compassion and empathy; if we just observed the 10 commandments without ever putting our foot in church, this world would be a near-perfect place for everyone. Screaming God this and the other while hating people for their skin color, religion, sexual orientation, etc., doesn't make you a "good Christian." Far from it. Start with "Love thy neighbor; Thou shalt NOT kill"...

Indeed God doesn't force anyone today to accept Him, He technically didn't force anyone in the Old Covenant they yielded to His will after they saw his power. Just before Jesus died on the cross, He said it is finished, that is fulfillment of the law. If folks decide to disregard the Bible then there is a consequence, if they believe and follow the Bible then that also has consequence. The Bible is absolutely clear about each consequence because of the belief.

The irony is, according to Frank Zindler in his autobio 'Confessions of a Born Again Atheist,' Rev. Bob Harrington did appear and speak at one of Madalyn's atheist conventions after he lost his faith, became an unbeliever, then later got it back (so to speak).

In case you're wondering, Bob Harrington was divorced 7 years later, after having had an affair. No different than any other affair, I guess, except for his self-righteousness. O'Hair, on the other hand, was kidnapped and murdered 25 years later, along with her son and her granddaughter. The bodies were found over 5 years later.

Really enjoyed this post. A reprobate mind will never believe. The pride of a person that is lost, grows every day to believe in themselves only, and as you get older it gets stronger. It takes faith that brings humility to believe in Jesus, and as you read and pray faith gets stronger and pride gets weaker. As a great friend you can call and ask for help when you ask that great friend they will do it, you have faith in them to help. Pride numbs fear of God and his authority. As Johnathan Edwards said and I quote, "Almost every natural man that hears of hell, flatters himself that he shall escape it".

Concerning the rejection of Jesus and mockery of the Holy Spirit... "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him" (John 3:36). The only way to salvation is acceptance of Christ as Savior. The way to Hell is rejection of Him. 31:And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32:Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come - Matthew 12:31-32
