Ladies and gentlemen, it is official. Madam Web is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
Join me in this video as we discuss the movie and just what about Madam Web is so bad. Sony just doesn't know when to quit.

Given everything we've heard, I'm pretty sure the only person who is shocked by this is probably the Director, even the actors seemed to know this movie was crap.

There are claims from Dakota Johnson on down that lots of things were changed: the original plot was very different, it seems. Also all those ADR lines for the villain suggests that almost all of his part was rewritten. Writers don’t do that unless they’re forced to by their employers, so no matter what crap these writers have been involved with, perhaps the studio executives are mostly to blame.

Her interviews (Dakota's) were sooooo underwhelming. You could see it in her face she was not into promoting it.

@@TaoScribble This is not correct. The second one was purposely bad, because the creator had no idea and thought this was the reason the first one popular. The first one was just incompetence. This is why the first one is a cult classic, while no one talks about the second one.

It gives great life lessons. Like if someone wants to murder you or your friends, just slowly walk away... hand in hand... probably protective power of human chains. Movie establishes very few things. One of them is that Mad Web loathed her mother who died in childbirth. And there is conversation which is my favorite now... - Evil Spuudey Guy: "You're just like your mother." - Mad Web: "Yes, I am."

About 15 years ago, Alfonso Cuaron said that we were entering the era of cinema made by video makers and consumers, and the days of creators of 35mm cinema with knowledge of how to craft a good and insightful story were long gone because of the short attention span that the video generation was used to. I think that we are now in the movile device cinema era, where everything is fast and tiny and needs to be fixed on a small screen and moved within a 60-second time limit. There is no need to improve the quality of the writing, or the digital effects for that matter, because you can't see anything on such a small screen. We demand quality because we lived in times when good cinema was made; it's a matter of education for the consumer. If they don't know what is good, it is likely that this trend will become the norm. There is a bleak future ahead

Bad movies continue to fail. I couldn't care less if it's an all female led movie if it's any good. Unfortunately the producers just seem to make sure the diverse and girlboss boxes are ticked and lose interest in the actual 'make a film people want to see' part. Baffling.

I will admit that the kidnapping subplot was completely swept under the rug. However, Cassie did NOT get custody of the three girls by the end of the movie. The teens just regularly hang out at Cassie's place and help take care of her. The story established that the girls can pretty much go wherever they want when ever they want because their parents are absent in one way or another. The mother of Julia (Sydney Sweeney) is in a mental institution, and her father and stepfamily don't want her around. As long as Anya (Isabela Merced) is able to keep the deportation of her father a secret, then she can remain autonomous. She just has to make sure the rent is paid, which brings me to... Mattie (Celeste O'Connor) comes from wealthy globetrotting parents. She can probably cover Anya's rent expenses. Mattie might have also helped paid for Cassie's ultra high tech wheelchair. Either that, or Cassie has phenomenal healthcare compensations from her EMT job. Long spoiler short, the teenagers are with Cassie, but Cassie is not their legal guardian.

I wouldn't have thought that Dakota Johnson was an actress with wide appeal. It seems like it would be a hard ask to watch people to watch a film that seems like it was meant to set up some spidergirl films. Add writers and directors with an absolute lack of pedigree and... It just seems more efficient to see if you can come up with a spidergirl film. The costumes for female characters can be a little goofy. The need to give them flowing hair? It works best if you have a minimal mask. If there's an incongruence between the mask and the hair, then you have to presume that the thought process was "how do I conceal my identity while still letting people know that I'm hot? Like really hot.". Maybe comics were the right medium.

Agree with you, but, the audiences for these movies have a long history of watching crap. At some point the corporate overlords came to understand they could excrete these vehicles and the general public, starving to find a "shiny monkey" to watch, would show up and pay up. This crud is just the result, hopefully things will get better.

Of course those defending this, if there are any and Phases 4 and 5 of the McU. Will give the same lazy, condescending and hamfisted responses. “It’s fiction what does it matter” “it’s a comic book movie” or “stop taking this so serious” as if we aren’t aware that it’s fiction. I personally find posers far more annoying and destructive to fandoms and fans of particular genres, far more annoying than those who are indifferent to them.

I am looking forward when you find a good TV show or movie to review so you can actually give us something to look forward to watch instead of turn away from. Have you tried Loudermilk or Ghosts BBC or the knock off Ghosts CBS? They are pretty good and will give you something to enjoy. And if you aim to trash Ghosts BBC, you will be left without much to complain about and a lot of episodes to be amazed by in the final 2 seasons. Oh yeah, and Ghosts BBC Red Nose segments are perfect for viewers of the show.

I liked the venom movies. And while this movie looks seriously dumb, it looks (to me anyway, not having seen the film) like old sci-fi b-movie levels of dumb, which would make it fun for being dumb. I'll take a dumb "action" movie over an overly preachy, politically driven film that ruins popular characters.

Sadly, Ezekiel is a victim of modern left-wing "rich guy evil" ideology. Despite, in the comics, him using his powers for profit but never hurting anyone and in fact being a mentor to several spider people (even some of the characters in this movie who he tries to kill). His character assassination started later in the comics when the writer was forced to make a villain arc for him. He hated it, the fans hated it, and it sold poorly. Im so pissed because this couldve been a great introduction to the mystical elements of Spider-Man's powers. Considering that the last Spider-Man movie heavily featured Dr. Strange they could've had something here but they let the most incompetent team handle it.

The actor who played the villain has been praised as being a good actor per other critics. I haven't seen this film but it's been said repeatedly his lines were overdubbed and the movie's release is completely different than what was filmed which is easy to believe especially since even Dakota Johnson said as much. And it's not like anyone's acting was stellar per what many reviewers have said. It's a dumpster fire I refuse to invest eye moisture into even when it streams (I still haven't seen Morbius and won't) and I didn't like either of the Venom flicks and won't see the 3rd. It's more than obvious Sony keeps making these Spidey-adjacent films to hold onto the Spidey IP. I don't know how since it's costing them millions... All while further tarnishing the Marvel brand which the MCU seems more than capable of doing themselves. I miss the good ol' days of GOOD superhero movies.

The actors all turn in performances like they're in hostage videos or on work-to-rule instructions from the union. Or like their agents sold them on a MCU movie and then they discovered... ah yes, now that would make sense as Ms Johnson fired her agent when the trailer dropped. Prolly shoulda eased up on the valium on set. There are waaay better female Spidery characters. It's a mystery why they chose this one to screw up.

CW had some great super hero stuff when it started, and until Trump broke all their brains it was worthy material. Point being CW wasn't all bad at all - it just ended that way.
