This is the only film that "gets it right" when it comes to classical music, even with a few slight exaggerations along the way. And to add to my love of it, Shirley is so much like my first piano teacher -- a woman who'd gone through a lot of traumatic experiences as a pianist and had developed a crippling stage fright. Much of her approach to teaching was similar to that which Shirley displays here.

I remember seeing this film when it was new. Haven't seen it again since, so it was nice to re-discover it on You Tube. It's a charming film and Shirley MacLaine is superb. This film never gets shown on TV, which is a shame.

I have viewed this movie many times over many years - it never fails to engage and enthral me. I do feel that the young actor Navin Chowdhry should have got star billing under the fabulous Shirley MacLaine, whose performance is outstanding. I certainly intend to revisit.

Piece of trivia, this was actually the first film to be rated "12" by the BBFC(not Batman as most seem to think) - however, it only got that for the West End release in London, outside of that area it was rated "15".
