Black Cat makes way more logical sense for a Spidy spin-off. She has abilities but fights against the underworld vs supervillains so they could keep the budget down while fleshing out the already interesting Spidy underworld. Maybe have Andrew Garfield Spidy cameo screwing up her plans too?

I don't understand why people are STILL surprised that no one is buying tickets to ANOTHER Sony verse movie that has NOTHING TO DO WITH SPIDER-MAN! I was curious so I searched on IMDB. The director on this movie, SJ Clarkson, has only worked on television before. The only movie she directed before this was Toast with Freddie Highmore and that was a TELEVISION FILM. Madame Web is her FIRST theatrical film. How did Sony thought it was a good idea hiring someone who has never directed a theatrical film before? No offense to SJ Clarkson but she was probably out of depth with this film and the studio realized that this movie is not good.

Here’s a big reason these tickets aren’t selling, because not only is it a character that none of the audience knows but literally none of the general audience even knows this is a comic book movie, aside from Darker-Man none of the stuff in the trailer looks even remotely comic book movie-esc, it just looks like a random thriller movie, and so the whole advantage that comic book movies usually have with opening weekends is totally slipping under the radar for this movie, and so it’s not really surprising to hear because the general audience is probably totally unaware that this is even a comic book movie

I think there are several factors against Madame Web: superhero fatigue (which is real, no matter what James Gunn says); it looks like a generic movie from 2003; the character is so obscure that I bet 90% of audiences have no idea who she is and also (for me the big one) is this Sony idea of using/ruining Spider-Man villains in order to squeeze the intellectual property they have with no creative vision whatsoever, just to sell tickets because is a "Marvel" movie. Is the single worst way to make a movie. And let's face it... the movies are bad. Sorry, John. Venom and specially Venom 2 are horrible.

This failed when someone greenlit the idea it would take place pre-Spiderman continuity. No one cares about a bunch of characters that will not show up in any modern crossover movie except as an Old Lady (a la the comics). Another contributing factor is the ticket pricing. Not sure of the cost in the US but down in Australia the average is $26 for all movies regardless of its sales prospects. When 3D was launched you’d pay a premium but ever since its demise, those prices haven’t reverted.

Sometimes you just know a movie is not going to be good. All trailers follow the same formula to a certain extent, but the one for Madame Web fell into every single one. When it comes to movies, I tend to lean to the more optimistic side, but this one did not look good. I hope I’m wrong but it felt joyless, corporate, and completely uninteresting.

My guess is because they wanted more variety in the characters that get movies. They probably didn't want to make movies solely about Spider people or characters similar to Spider-Man. The MCU has a variety of heroes like a Norse God (Thor), a martial artist (Shang-Chi), a group of misfits (Guardians of the Galaxy), etc.

Bad decisions lead to bad anticipation which of course leads to bad results. Madame Web is not a known entity to the vast majority of comic book fans let alone movie fans. Sony is so stupid. The entire premise of the SPIDERMAN UNIVERSE at Sony is suppose to revolve around SPIDERMAN. Have you ever had Thanksgiving meal without a Turkey? Thats what these movies feels like. No problems with Strong female leads. There have been some really good ones, some lately, more were older. But this is a genre where the vast majority of the audience is male. In a society that constantly says "I want to see someone who looks like me in X" the sheer abundance of female leads in a genre of movies watched mostly by men, is a large suggestion as to why these movies are bombing. People want to go to the movies to be entertained. Not preached to or have ideals shoved at them when they just want to get lost in a movie. Sure make movies with strong females. But make them good movies instead of just making a female led movie for the sake of doing it.

Not enough people want comic book movies as of the past few years to warrant bad ones, or even most good ones in the eyes of fandom. Superman Legacy, and to some degree Deadpool 3 have big shoes to fill and while they may prove to work good enough, I still think some muster and been lost for good. Don't quote me on this exactly but I believe someone perhaps Nolan back around the 2014 days said Superheros would go the way of the western, to that whoever said it, is right. Even if Superman and Deadpool prove successes its not enough to show the majority of people every one will be a amazing like they were in The Dark Knight/Iron Man era.

Two things: 1) I’m intrigued and will be going to watch this! I never pre-purchase tickets though (except for No Way Home) and will purchase closer to the release or at the theater. 2) Though it’s late, there’s still time for a second trailer, right? But I also don’t blame them after a lot of people pooped on the first one. I think it’s better to keep the one trailer and not risk upsetting more people with a second. Let the intrigue bring people in and not risk giving too much of the plot away or dissuading more people with a second consecutive disappointing trailer. As a general fan of Spider-Man related stories, I’m excited to see this! Keeping my expectations low and going in to be entertained. I’m more intrigued by this than that Kraven movie.
