This video was by far the best one I've seen on how to choose a beginner sewing machine! Thank you so much! I'm now subscribed to your channel and looking forward to learning from you!

Really useful video for us newbies, i especially like your slow calm pace and well presented sections with top tips..and the end with some recommendations . Very helpful as it’s easy to be overwhelmed coming back to sewing years after school and it’s a whole new (old) world to understand (again!)

Sewing machine prices went crazy during the pandemic. If I had to equip a beginning sewist today, the only sewing machines I'd consider are these budget-priced models: 1) Brother CS6000i: $210 computerized. 2) Singer 4452 Heavy Duty: $230 mechanical. 3) Brother HC1850: $260 computerized. 4) Brother CS7000i: $270 computerized. 5) Singer 6800C Heavy Duty: $299 computerized. Computerized machines will keep their users from becoming bored. I'll probably get the Brother HC1850 as a portable backup for my premium European machine that weighs a ton.

This was a great video. I have a probably a 30 year old singer from Walmart gift from parents so sentimental value. I want to buy something not computerized just basic but good for sewing and quilting. Was looking at the Baby lock Zest and a couple of others in that line.

I just need a very small sewing machine to hem pants, that's all I will be doing. It needs to be easily stored because I have very little room and I'm a beginner so I don't really know what I'm doing but I'm short and have trouble finding people to hem my pants so I want to be able to do it myself. Any suggestions?

For a beginner I would recommend trying to find a second-hand Bernina Minimatic. They're well engineered, solid and reliable. and if you find that sewing is not for you, then the machine will hold it's value. You shouldn't have any problems getting back what you paid for it, providing you don't pay too much in the first place. Do some research on prices, they can vary enormously. Good luck!

I'm 53 and I used a Bernina Minimatic at secondary school 🇬🇧 age 13 to 16. I absolutely loved it. I saved what I could and bought a used one fir £70 in 1992 or 93. I hammered it. Made curtaina for my mum huge Victorian Bay front window full length & lined because nothing would fit from the shops. The fabric was Damask and they're still in use by a family member now after 25yrs. I made south asian dresses, a line dresses, bedding, cushions, trousers etc etc etc... I wasn't well and used it. Tbe fuse went and I wasn't concentrating properly as my youngest son wasn't well at the same time. Anyway, I put the wrong fuse in and blew the motor. I was so upset and bought a 'Toyota Jeans' machine. Its a good machine too but I missed my Bernina so much I searched and found another 2nd hand refurbished one for £250 in 2014 in the UK 🇬🇧. I've still got it now. I've a 1008 Bernina and a Activa 240. By far although I do really like the Bernina 1008, my Bernina Minimatic is THE BEST out of all of the machines I've ever used. The newer Bernina's are amazing but the prices are too. I'd recommend a Minimatic to anyone any day!
