The title is inspired by a well known italian poem, "Letter to my mother" by Salvatore Quasimodo, who in turn was inspired by the catholic prayers to the Virgin Mary, who is called "Mater dulcissima". The poet wrote his work when he was in Milan, he who was from the Sicily, where the mother was still living, alone, and he expresses all his longing for the land of his youth and for the mother herself.

Great reaction Ang, and big thumbs up for foreseeing the solo of one of the chorus girls. Regarding the fact of Brian May playing with Zucchero you have to know that after the death of Freddy Mercury the Queen kind of audition many singers on some of their hits, and Zucchero was one of them ; the deal didn't go through but sure enough they became good friends as you can see in the video. Hi Ang! Sweet memories with this wonderful song, one of my favourite from our Zucchero "Sugar". He played with the most important musicians, and always had the best choirs! This song always brings tears to my eyes. It's so powerful. It's on the album Oro, Incenso e Birra i.e. Gold, Incense and Beer. The whole album is amazing, a true masterpiece. Zucchero is a legend, he's very famous outside of Italy too. And Brian May is a god when he plays guitar

In my opinion, the studio version, better in some ways, is affected a little by the passage of time (it's a 1989 song, if I'm not mistaken). I find, however, that this version is modernized and still great.
