Why aren't the drs. Looking to get rid it and only rid of the symptoms. They're still going to potentially get sick and be contagious? Whats the implication? Is the medication supposed to reduce Giardia significantly enough that the body eradicates it?? Or what.....

Excellent explanation! My puppy tested positive for Giardia and is now under treatment with Metronidazole. I hope she recovers soon, since (thanks to your video) I now know that Giardia can become resistant to Metronidazole and the medication has its side effects.

if we are treating to resolve symptoms like diarrhea and not necessarily looking for a negative giardia result, will the body fight off the remaining giardia on its own after resolving symptoms? at what point and how often should the animal be retested to determine if they are still shedding the disease? thank you for the excellent presentation!

Thank you for this presentation, as my newly adopted shelter-kitten has tested positive for giardia. We tried to treat it solely with panecure, but it didn't work, so now it looks like we're probably going to have to get metronidazole. Metronidazole almost killed me--it damaged the back of my brain--so having my pet on it is quite terrifying. The adverse effects might be prevented or minimalized with supplementation of thiamine (vitamin B1) and magnesium, however. Metronidazole is a thiazole and the body mistakes it as a ring of thiamine, so it binds metronidazole to thiamine with horrid results. The patient's thiamine reserve is depleted rapidly and they go into an acute thiamine deficiency disease similar to Wernicke's, which causes dysfunction of the cerebellum, brain stem and nerve damage. All of this might be avoided by giving the animal B1 to keep their thiamine up and magnesium (you need magnesium to absorb thiamine).

Can you please list the cleaning products as shown on the slide. My 10 week old puppy was diagnosed a few days ago and I don’t know what cleaning products to use to help clean. I’ve been using 3/4 cup of bleach & water. Please and thanks in advanced!!

Hello and thank you for watching. We're sorry about your puppy! The slide at 13:40 says scrub area with soap and water, rinse and let dry, then apply quaternary ammonia (QUATS). She lists Rocal, A-33, Kennelsol, Lysol IC, D-256, DiQuat, Parvo-sol. Leave on for at least 10 minutes. Best of luck to you and your puppy.

I have a puppy I just adopted a few weeks ago with giardia. I did not know. I have Crohn's disease so I'm freaking out. He is being treated and only had 1 bout of diarrhea the day I brought him into the vet. I took him immediately and he went on 10 days pancur and metronidazole. No more diarrhea after the first day. He's acting totally fine. I did confine him to a puppy play yard because I have another dog. I'm worried about catching it. I cleaned all my floors with bleach and lysoled and used a antibacterial natures miracle on my couches. I use gloves and pick up the stool right away. Is there anything else I should be doing to make sure I don't get this. Thank you

Melissa thank you for watching and for all you are doing for your puppy! Quite an undertaking. Please consult your physician and your veterinarian for further action. We wish you every success!

@@MaddiesFundEducation it's a neverending situation when we seek for help but most professionals response is to consult with a veterinarian. I'm sure most of us have spoke to a doctor, they seem to have generic or short answers. We seek for additional information on how to reduce the spread in our home, any answer will be extremely helpful, but not the " talk to your vet" response.

Thanks for the video, but you spelt the name of the good doctor there in the description incorrectly; her name is written as Teva, but it should be Tiva.

Too bad I see this now. I am losing the fight with this parasite and all because I adopted from egypt and was told of the giardia only on my way to pick him up from the airport! I'd no idea what it was. I've had healthy cats that were my companions from 7 wks to over 20 yrs. I have no money, no health... and after 2 weeks I'm pretty sure my other cat of 13 is infected. I need help to separate them (I haven't the space here), I haven't the strength to medicate them alone, I already pulled my back out emptying 3 litterboxes, I have immune problems and a problem with intestinal problems after my 3rd (Third) peritonitis from a surgical mustake, so now I'm in trouble too. Only yesterday the people who sent him callously said "maybe we should take him back".. too little too late. I've no help at all so this is headed to hell. AVOID "Poor Egyptian Cats " AT ALL COSTS. THEY ARE SENDING DOGS AND CATS WITH GIARDIA ALL OVER THE WORLD, PROMISING THESE ANIMALS ARE COMPLETELY FREE OF HEALTH PROBLEMS.

Dear Mary Lou, try to hold on. We must run the race, remember? It's never too late and only The Lord has the keys to eternal life. Which will be so much better than what is here now. Your treasures are in heaven as the Word says. I love you and know what you are going through trust me. And i want to meet you when we get there. My heart is with you, you are not alone

TheCross4All i just wish I understood 25 yrs of downhill ... everything. I'm not strong enough anymore. Nobody deserves what I'm experiencing. I can't pray anymore, I've tried and can't. If you pray for me, I must thank you. Maybe yours will be heard.

Mary Lou Dear sister, i do understand. What you are going through is horrible i know! All the way down as i have been. But the one thing that i had left was The Lord...He never let go. I held onto Him and He is so much more than anything of this world. "Be Still and know that I am God" He says. When all you have is Jesus that my sister IS "Everything". I have been and will continue to pray for you. I want to see you there with me for all Eternity. It's all about The Spiritual :) I understand so much more now than before. I love you. I feel your heart. You are my sister
