'Made me angry!' Royal experts react to latest Prince Harry uniform twist

The news that Prince Harry will wear his military uniform at a vigil for the Queen, just a short time after he released a statement saying that he wouldn’t, has raised eyebrows among royal watchers. The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden believes that it’s a reminder that both his family and the country will need the same decisiveness his mother showed continually throughout her reign.
‘As King he will have to be decisive, that’s the key thing,’ he tells our royal chat show Palace Confidential. ‘The Queen was and the funeral of her husband is an example of that. I think you have to take a position and stick to it’

You see by these attacks on Harry still why he wanted some release from the spiteful attacks by the news media. Harry could live to be 80 and the news media would still attack him and Meghan for wanting some distance, to have a family life. By all accounts he was such a liability that in the end he had to go home. Not his fault at all, but his colleagues had to spend too much time keeping him safe from being taken hostage or worse. So with the best will in the world, sorry, hardly a fighting war hero. Although not in the military, William spent years flying helicopters for the Air Ambulance Service, which we never hear much about, but IMO deserves a mention.

these royal experts talk rubbish, Richard Eden is wrong, there is no Letters Patent issuing royal titles to Beatrice and Eugenie, Andrew is a male child of a sovereign, so his children were born with titles its automatic, Edward's children would have too, but him and didn't want royal titles but for the Prince of Wales it was different, only George would have got a royal title so she updated Letters Patent 1917 to say that all the children of the eldest son of A Prince of Wales would have royal titles, Harry's children would have automatically become, HRH Prince and Princess when Charles became King Richard and the other so called experts need to read Letters Patent 1960 its why Harry's children will never have royal titles Phillp was upset that his children wouldn't have his name and it caused friction so Letters Patent 1960 was a compromise our Queen said those descendants without royal titles would have the surname Mountbatten-Windsor it makes it clear they can't have both, those with royal titles, are part of the house of windsor royal reporters want sensationalism to sell papers and create drama on tv or on you tube

Disagree. Harry saw active service in Afghanistan and at the vigil was wearing the uniform of his regiment the Blues and Royals and Eden should remember this. For Harry the vigil was as much a family issue as it was a royal one and at a family event it would not be inappropriate to be in uniform. The snide references to Harry and Meghan's spin doctors was another jibe based on the papers antagonistic attitude towards the couple and particularly Meghan. As an outsider looking in, this whole episode is a silly tempest in a teapot. You have "honorary" members of the military allowed to wear their uniforms for a special event, and actual veterans not allowed to wear a uniform. It is so inside out and upside down! I say if they want to wear a uniform for their relative's funeral, they can wear the dress version of the one they earned when they were actually in the service...army captains or navy lieutenants (or whatever they were). Only exception would be Charles...as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, he could legitimately wear a general's uniform if that's what he wants.

I am so happy that King Charles permitted Prince Harry to wear his uniform at the Queen's vigil. Prince Harry has more of a right to do so, than Prince Andrew does. I hope this helps remind Harry of what it means to be a royal, what it means to his country, and what it would mean to Princess Diana. I hope the Royal family uses this time for healing as well as for mourning. This is an incredible opportunity for the family to reunite for the 21 Century. I think holding vigil in Westminister Hall is a formal, traditional ceremony that requires military uniforms being worn out of respect for the Leader of the Armed Forces, the Queen. Personal differences set aside. You give your best. HM is being honored by her family with one final tribute as they display their protection, loyalty, sense of duty, and their love for her. Andrew was the son of the Queen, and Harry, the son of a King. Nothing changes that. They have to set the example for future generations on how this ceremony is done correctly.

As an American I don’t understand this controversy. Her majesty was a member of the military. Her children were members of the military. Prince William and Prince Harry were members of the military. Its known as maintining the status quo. I always thought that for the position this family held they would ALL be held accountable to the utmost of highest standards of behaviour and morality. However I've grown to realise that if they are kept mythicized then they can be allowed to exist without recourse. Unless of course, like Harry they go completely against the grain and break with "Tradition". Many see absolutely nothing wrong with Andrews actions and many who do, simply choose distract themselves from it by relentlessly focusing on Harry and Meghan. It is incomprehensible to some that a family that has prided itself on maintaining its whiteness could POSSIBLY have any members with biases, be that conscious or unconscious. However, it is quite comprehensible that getting caught up in the actions of Andrew, can be explained away by virtue of demographics, so you will hear them argue "he wasn't charged with anything, it was in the UK and 17 was the legal age, or worse a young woman who was trafficked being called all the names under the sun. You will also notice that not many even acknowledges the devastating effect this would have had on his elderly parents, the family, the brand or the country yet the meer fact of Meghan and or Harry breathing, Harry's elderly grandparents ages and fragility is weaponised. Some things truly have to be SEEN to be believed., as you see playing out before your very eyes.

She removed the prince title and instead made them Duke/Duchess of Sussex. Actually, I dont even think, she was a princess for marrying Harry even b4 that, as Kate was not technically a princess, but was Duchess of Cambridge, Kate is only a princess now, that Charles has made William the new Prince of Wales. As best I understand, grandchildren of a reigning monarch are princes/princesses - if the monarch makes them so. However, their spouses are not, nor are the greatgrandchildren. Whether or not Archie and Lilibet become prince/princess will be up to Charles, it doesnt happen automatically, but since their father officially no longer is a prince, even if many still call him so, and they are family, but not Royal Family, then I really dont see, how Charles could give them those titles. And in Charles' first speech he spoke of Camilla as his Queen Consort, and he named William and Kate the new Prince and Princess of Wales (also something that doesnt happen automatically, he had to officially announce it, and William will be called such from now, even if he only technically becomes Prince of Wales, once he is officially invested as such in Wales after the kings coronation). But he only mentioned H&M by their first names, no titles, and referred to them continuing their life "overseas". These are not coincidences.
