It's the ultimate fanservice/callback. You hear those notes and you instantly make the connection intended by the game; instead of fighting the incarnation of players, you fight the first kindling's incarnation now. Shit was so hype, I kinda wish that was the canon ending/sendoff to the souls series, as opposed to some rando in a red cloak.

First time I heard the second phase music for soul of cinder kick in, I died to the true combo 5 seconds afterwards because I was too stunned to remember what the dodge button was. That single string of piano notes is more impactful to many dark souls players than any other game ost. It's good to see that it hit her just as hard as it did the rest of us.

Why? It is just a shameless nostalgia bait copy of Gwyn's theme. Just like the entire second phase of soul of cinder. In general the boss is incredibly unoriginal on top of making zero sense lore wise.

@@tinminator8905 Gwyn's theme in ds1 represents the sad and fading husk of a man gwyn is and also represents you've reached the end of the game. In ds3 the soul of cinder isn't nearly as futile but the reality of the world you're in and the depressing tone of the whole series culminates in Gwyn's tune one final time to represent the end of the series and, depending on your ending, the end of an age. Is it fan service? Yes. Does it speak to something larger than just the same tune again? Without a doubt.

I love Elden Ring was absolutely magnificent, but holy fuck the bosses felt repetitive and many were just unnecessarily incompetently/annoyingly made, all by it epic tho. Hopefully the DLC bosses are more creative gameplay-wise. Like, it's been years, but Artorias, Nameless King and Soul of Cinder are still arguably my favorite bosses of all.

Amazing as always, 3 is my favorite game out of the series, i 100% achievement completed it (which was a pain in the ass, fuck all spell all ring achievements, especially the covenant grind), and then got into pvp and challenge/speedrunning just to squeeze more enjoyment out of it.

On most bosses I will say, it makes sense why they have a "second" health bar when they do. Like the Nameless King? You think defeating his mount is killing him? They even have different names. The Abyss Watchers are undying soldiers guarding the Abyss etc.
