Thank you Dana! I found your tutorials about a year ago and i use them all the time. my daughter starts junior school tomorrow, she's the youngest in her class bless her. I have made her your kids shorts for PE lessons, and I made this drawstring bag to put her PE kit in. Its sort of like she will have me at school with her when she's settling in. Lovely!

Dana, I am teaching 9 and 10 year olds to sew. Your videos have been so valuable to me as I reacquaint myself with sewing. My students start with your little draw string bag as a first project. They move on to sew a pillow case, a simple elastic waist skirt, and a reversible boxed bottom tote bag. I also introduce them to knits with your knit head band. After they have accomplished these I graduate them to your simple shorts (knit pj shorts), skirts with pockets and aprons. I am adding this string backpack to the list. Your project ideas are truly beginner level and the girls are so proud of what they can accomplish in a 2 and a half hour class. The best thing is that these are all things they will wear and use. Thank you for inspiring the next generation!

I like to walk my dogs and I get tired of carrying their water dish and water bottle in a grocery bag in my hand. So I got a sewing machine for Christmas. I bought some cute fabric at Hobby Lobby that is black and has little doggie bones and then I bought some that is black and has little white paw prints. I have made the first one and it came out great. I had to use ribbon for my straps because I did not buy enough of the bias tape. It turned out fine now I'm going to make one for my sister. This is the first thing I ever made using a video tutorial and only the second thing I have made with my new sewing machine. I love your easy videos.

Thank you for this video - the best one on making these awesome little backpacks! I make these to put in our Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoeboxes and for other kiddos that we know. : ) The only variation that I make is to cut only one section of fabric - so 16 X 68 rather than 16 X 34 times two - eliminating the bottom seam by making a fold instead. You always do videos that are easy to follow and provide great results!

I tried to follow your instructions for the draw string but they come out way y the ok long for my daughter’s bag, can they be stitched half way up the bag to shorten them? By the way, she wanted zip-cord as her strap do I used a very short zig-zag stitch to secure them; I think it was the best way to ensure I got more than two stitches in them.

Would you please explain about the bias tape? I have some cut and ready to use but am confused Did you unfold it, its folded twice toward the center right now, and then fold in half to sew down the side? I am afraid that will leave a raw edge that will fray. Thanks!!!
@MADEEveryday4 жыл бұрын
I'm using double-fold bias tape, so all the raw edges are folded up inside, and then I stitched the open side of it closed, so it's like a ribbon of fabric. Hopefully that makes sense :) If you have single fold tape (sounds like that's what you have) then yes, fold it in half and sew down the side.
