Madeira Training Ride on the new SCOTT Foil. Dodging cows and stuck in my 54t chainring!

I tried to get a little bit of riding in whilst visiting Madeira but it's really either a big climb or big descent out there, and descents are a lot more fun to watch. I picked a road on the top of the island that ran along the ridge before descending towards the ocean. There are a few small but tough climbs along the way. To make the them a little tougher I was stuck in my big large chainring after crashing and damaging a shifter the day before. Cue the heinous cross chaining, but still managed to make it! I'm with the cows on the freehub sound 😉. Awesome video tho 👍. The roads here in Spain get super-slick after the first 'end-of-summer' rains. Imagine Madeira is the same. Most cars run on diesel fuel, which gets spilled out of the tank fillers and ends up on the road. Builds up all thru summer, then add a splash of water.....instant ice rink, or diesel slick-and-slide 😆. Hope the spill didn't take too much skin.

I feel you with the crash. I crashed my Merida Reacto on my first ride with it 😂 Luckily I got all the slide, and the shifter hoods were sanded down quite a bit, but everything still works as new.

@@dvoob I live in Cali I climb the observatory/Hollywood hills with a 53×15 fixed gear a many times and Palos Verdes is my favorite lol... I also weight train maybe that helps the quads, hams and legs a bit. Hence why I like a 1x set up on roadies front 53 or 54 and rear 35-11

3kilo electronic gearing and disc brake is regressive engineering. The Foil Ultimate is 7.22 kilos. The 2012 Trek Madone is 5.98 kilos.
