It’s a lovely space for an office - I agreed with your idea to get a half-sized fridge, then you could put a couple of pieces of wood around it as a top and side, to match the kitchen counter. And possible a tall narrow bookshelf turned sideways next to the fridge, so that it acts as a divider for the person sitting at that desk, and adds a bit more homeliness? You could then hang a picture on the back of it.

A great option to make small changes that feel more vintage is to just change the legs on the desks! You can find vintage turned wood legs or buy new ones that look old and have the same height as your ikea units. Especially since the wood tops are still in great shape 😊

The office looks much better that way round, I would put the filing cabinets the other end of the desks (flip them round) so the storage heater wasn’t blocked, you might be grateful in the winter. Also consider a colourful blind at the window, much easier to close if necessary and it can be pulled halfway down if the sunlight is an issue.

I would suggest getting rid of those two white couch pieces -- they look a bit sloppy. What about moving the "old" couch from your living room into the office? I think it would look tidier and it could serve as jumping off point for a paint colour.

You could do a hot and cold drinks section in the kitchen part maybe a coffee machine. You could put a small coffee table by the cosy chairs for a rest area. If you don’t need extra freezer space then I would get just a fridge it would open up the room a lot.

Hi Madeleine ... only just had a chance to watch this video... what a great space to be working with. I totally get the working til late on switching your space around when you have an idea! Lots of comments about room dividers... I was thinking 2 dividers to create a square lobby before you enter the bathroom, then the door is disguised and creates a sound barrier from toilet to work area! I love old stained windows pieced together to create room dividers (Banjo Beake did it in his Isle of Mull design show) looked stunning and that real vintage vibe! You can also build rustic dividers and include shelves for extra storage or displays? Definitely a low level fridge maybe floral curtain across all low level kitchen units (Victorian vibes) and could consider removing kitchen wall units and have rustic open shelves instead? The seating area you could have lots of vintage lamps shades hanging at various levels to bring the space down.. the plug in string lights can work with that tyoe if arrangement? A vintage A frame ladder could be staged at end of desks with trailing plants and use to store your camera equipment? A single rung ladder suspended from the ceiling is nice too with trailing plants and lights again bringing the space down creating a cosy vibe. A permanent porch canopy outside your french windows would be lovely with trailing plants and a place to have a doormat rather than inside? Good luck with it looking forward to seeing it progress! Xx

Everything is along the walls. I think that desk by the fridge can be looking in the room. (perpendicular to the other desks) Also! When you are wanting to take on a bigger design change, maybe you can create a half room divider next to the fridge to separate the kitchen space a bit more? Fun stuff!

You could always try putting the cork board above the third desk, to bring that warm wood tone to that side of the room. Then tuck a nice plant on the side of the desk (next to the fridge) to add a little natural division in that space. I was thinking a tall plant, or a bigger plant in a stand (to get the fullness of the plant at/ above the desk level) between the desk and fridge, but I don't know how much space you have there, so on the desk itself may work best. On top of the suitcases you could put down a woven placemat, then a small tray for items, to add a little warmth (I liked the brass items and a candle on it, and some kind of plant, like you have). Maybe even put a small, one foot tall shelf (like a shoe shelf) under the suitcases to bring them off the floor, and to the level of the desk, so the eye glides down the line. Also maybe a brass lamp next to the sofa, to bring a little more warmth? I love the idea of a gallery wall above the sofa, as well as a nice rug and curtains! Also I like the idea of a warm white paint. There is such nice light in the room, and white enhances it. Thanks for reading my novel! Much love! 💕

I think the chair were better right next to the fridge, second option did feel weird. Why wouldn’t you put a third desk into the same row tho? I think it would look very nice them all being in the same place. And maybe a nice simple mural behind the chairs? I think it would look nice there, a bit modern with all the tech around.

Loving your revamped office space. Like sofa chairs in the corner. Can imagine you must now have a cozy view of the garden from the sofa chairs. Can’t wait to see the finished room! Have you considered switching the black legs and white drawer cabinet on the white desk around so the black legs are next to the fridge? Wondering if that will create visual separation between fridge and desk.

Privacy glass door to replace the bathroom door will allow the natural light of the bathroom window flow into the back of the office which currently doesnt have natural light. The glass would offer higher acoustic barrier between the rooms and make the area look bigger.

Your Pothos plant tendrils should be cut back, making it much healthier. Pieces that are trimmed can be rooted to produce more plants, eliminating the need to buy more plants. Place leafy pieces in water to root, in one or more of the bottles already in the bookcase.

I wonder if you could find a tinted glass door to the bathroom to take advantage of the light coming from the window. Would brighten up the space a bit. Also, what if you put the sofas against the wall with the two desks and use the suitcases as a coffee table? You could leave the tree stump where it is and put a little round cushion on top for extra seating. Nerding out with you inspires me so much that I have been slowing doing the same around my house, and I am feeling so much better for it. So, thank you so much. Cheers from Japan! (^-^)/

I was thinking that if you can add a partition between the desk and fridge that it would add separation between the work and kitchen areas. Maybe for now, something like a folding screen, but in the future, a floor to ceiling wall that’s a little bigger than the length of the fridge. I would also try, to see how it looks, to separate the couch so that it’s an L shape (or essentially two chairs) with a side table or floor lamp in the corner. Just some thoughts. I do like your style.
