I really appreciate your realism and self-compassion with making life changes. Lovely video as always! My go-to audiobook recommendation is the Wayfarer series by Becky Chambers. I never thought I would love sci-fi, but I can't get enough of her writing and her characters. It's cozy, inclusive, and heartbreaking/heartwarming. The audiobook narrator is phenomenal too!

Something I really enjoy doing is reading normally for about 20minutes when I first wake up. It’s such a nice way to slowly wake up as usually chose the books you described as escapism (read enough nonfiction for uni). Means don’t need to jump right up but also not looking at screens straight away. May not work with your morning routine if already fitting lots in then but if you have time definitely recommend.

I tend to use Insight Timer at bedtime and mornings - it’s an app with guided meditation, talks, relaxing music etc. Lots of choice on there and it’s free! Audio book wise I tend to listen to self help ones and recently listened to Jay Shetty - Like a Monk and Healing is the New High by Vex King. You have been such an inspiration to me for recipes! I’ve been a vegetarian for 51 years this year (since I was 3!) and I was sticking to my old fav recipes and now I have so many more thanks to you! 🙏

As the person who is in charge of all of our household accounts, I am the one who won't turn the heat on until it's consistently under 60F and won't turn the AC on until it's consistently over 75F. We do have a space heater for the kitchen, though, so the children can be warm while they are dressing and eating. Peeps just know to wear a sweater if it's cold and we're used to fans. Also, I am strategic with the use of our window shades and thermal curtains, as well as open windows and doors. Also, I agree with you on limiting screens. Our first phone rule was not scrolling at the dinner table. Our second is gross but so common: No phones in the bathroom. Like you, I'm now trying to eliminate screens at bedtime. Thank you for sharing your views and habits!

We're so much alike in that I cannot read more than if you pages and I fall asleep at night. Trying to find a time during the day that reading doesn't make me sleepy. I love autobiographical books... some of my faves are everything by Gerald Durrell (an eccentric British family who moves to Greece, really hilarious), anything by James Herriott (a country vet sharing funny stories of his life), The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls (an American woman who had a crazy childhood with very eccentric parents living in poverty), anything by Bill Bryson (a funny author who writes about his travels), anything by Amanda Owen (a shepherdess who has a big family and writes about their rural life adventures), and Shantaram by Gregory David Ross (a convict shares loads of crazy stories about his life living in a shanty town when he flees to India).
@zauber-wortck45712 жыл бұрын
Yeah, The Glass Castle was really good, I enjoyed that, too. Also, what about Life of Pi by Yann Martel? Not autobiographical, but written from an "I perspective", quite philosophical, a bit weird, but a deep read. I loved it!

Good night . I think you have the same issue I have ; that if you make too many rules you immediately find a way to rebel against them. I have to go very gently on rules for myself, but my self discipline isn't that bad really. I want to do more reading (books) as well. Since covid started I have been more into social media than ever. Little tip from my Mum to me and me to you; don't pull at your skin when you cleanse, etc. Your hand should glide over and massage shouldn't physically move your skin ( especially around your eye area). X

My favourite audiobook is Braiding Sweetgrass by Dr Robin Wall Kimmerer who is a member of the North American Potawatomi nation and a botanist. This book is like a memoir but using Indigenous culture and philosophy and her passion for nature to tell stories and talk about the beauty of life. Highly recommend! Also love Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen. As an asexual person this book was so affirming and also really eye-opening. The audiobook is done really well and isn't too heavy on the nonfiction aspect.
@hannahc46412 жыл бұрын
Audiobook recommendation: still life by Sarah Winnman!! Absolutely my favourite book/audiobook ever. It’s pure escapism. It’s set in Italy (Florence) and in London, and it’s basically just about life, love, friendships, art, food, all of that good stuff, and there’s a parrot called Claude who quotes Shakespeare. Honestly can’t say enough good things about it, it makes me so happy but also there’s some really emotional bits in it - I’m not someone who cries at books but a couple of bits in this really made me cry. I think you’d enjoy it!

Great video. I need to sort out my night routine. I see you have a Le Creuset shallow casserole/braiser. I am awfully tempted! I have a full size one, ( over 20 years old) - but fancy the smaller for stove to table, and smaller amounts. I have a gas Aga on 363 days a year. It saves on a kettle, tumble drier, cooker and heating in the kitchen, so I tell myself it is worth the £1.80 a day ( before April 1st). My cottage would be a puddle of mud without it! It’s tomblike cold without… as I found out one snowy April day when I returned straight from Thailand, in linen, to discover my house-sitter had gone to Ireland, without topping up the gas card.
@99snapsnap2 жыл бұрын
PS: And hanging the clothes and linens about the Aga saves the fibres ending up in the filter, the fibres being our fabrics. I still use Victorian linen ( dates written on -1879, etc) regularly. And my clothes last decades.
