In this episode we begin the hunt for parts as our good friends across California hook us up with what we need to get the Tweedy Pie clone to the point of having enough parts to build a rolling chassis. Featuring: Alex Carlos - Ron Carlsten - Dave Shuten
Car That Ate My Brain follows film maker, hot rod historian and builder Piero De Luca in his quest to build a replica of the car known as “Tweedy Pie” a 1923 Model T Ford roadster made famous by Ed ‘Big Daddy” Roth. Revell and Roth turned the car into a famous model kit and influenced many, selling over 11 million units to date. This series we tag along with Piero and his friends and see the clone come to life over a 2 year span that is still going on today.

Looking forward to seeing more of the Tweedy tribute as it comes together. T-buckets have always been a favorite of mine and Tweedy pie is right at the top along with Ivo's T as far as classic rods go. Really enjoyed seeing the history of the car.

Thanks for the info on the original Tweedy Pie. Did not realize the rear body panel was from a touring and was puzzled by your stating in the first video that (only) the cowl was widened. Always wondered why the upper body curve looked "off" compared to a roadster body. Also now realize why the Tweedy Pie model kit's frame looked odd as most people save the front of the frame rails and would not look twice at Deuce rails cut off just in front of the firewall. (I used the kit's suspension on another kit's Deuce frame and tossed the Tweedy Pie frame). Now we need a break down on the construction of both Norm's T and Ivo's T so that we have an understanding of the mind set of the period when the (original) cars were built. Seems Ivo's was the most straight forward.

Yeah the cowl and the windshield as well had to be reworked.. there’s actually a 3 inch piece visible on the original windshield frame.. fortunate I have access to the real one so I measured everything! Ha.. Yeah the chassis was really unique.. There’s no way I would be able to afford to cut up a 32 chassis.. that’s why the find changed everything!! There’s some photos of the Kookie car all apart when they were restoring it and it was a pretty hack job and I know they were working with they had but looking at Tpie in comparison the workman ship was way above and that probably why it took a bunch of awards against his buddies.. :) I snooped around Zivot as well and that car was pretty nice as well.. 👊🏼✌🏼

@@MADFABRICATORSTV You pointed out what I hinted about with Norm's T. "Official word" that I received was that Norm cut off some of the frame and added to the other end of the frame. When that car was still in Dayton, Ohio (along w/ the Golden Sierra) the cars were brought over to Columbus and displayed at a car dealership. That allowed close up viewing. When I asked about the frame I was told what can be seen is actually sheet metal that covers Norm's work. Have not looked at that car's clone to see how that frame was constructed. Only saw Ivo's T once at a national car meet and it was roped off inside a building so there was no close up examination. Thanks for the info on Tweedy Pie. Doubt if I ever use it but the images of those three T's is what I grew up with so you answered some life long questions for me.

So bitchin’ ! Too bad I didn’t know you were looking for a roadster body back when you started. I had a 1918 roadster as well as the 22 Touring front half that I ended up using. I traded the roadster body for some parts for my own build. It would have been a good excuse for a road trip to California. Thank you for sharing your build with us. I’m looking forward to the next instalment.👍👍

Yeah thanks man! Although the 18 wouldn’t of worked it has a different shape.. it had to be 23-25 :) but your going to bring your T out to Cali anyways when it’s done so still have that road trip! Ha!
