MICRO JIGGING inshore Auckland snapper SHORE JIGGING technique (New Zealand)

Finally legally allowed to fish after 5 weeks of lock down where no fishing was allowed. Have the fish moved in because of zero fishing pressure?. Are fish inshore because their not being caught?. With no fishing pressure fish and birds have been working up right by the beaches and no one was allowed to fish under the covid-19 lock down rules. We are now allowed to fish from kayak, and that is exactly what I have done. Searching for inshore snapper in New Zealand after the lock down to see if fish have become wild again. Using Jackson athlete 9jm stick baits to catch a few kahawai on stick baits before switching over to find some Snapper. micro jigging with ocean angler fleas, tungsten jigs to catch snapper. using the 'shore jigging technique' from a kayak or 'jigging at range' this style of micro jigging is so effective at catching fish. you cast then jig and bounce it back like soft baiting. soft baiting the wash for snapper. I caught a nice on wash fishing for snapper. The micro jigs are amazing to target trevalley on jigs and lures. micro jigging for trevalley is so much fun on light gear.

I like the Flea jigs, but I've found the hooks wear and then fish get off. I add a triple hook to the bottom of the 14gm pink lummo for catching Macs, it's killer, snapper attach the top of the lure and don't need the triple but Macs come from behind. I've caught snapper, gurnard, trevally, kahawai and Macs on these. Cool video, keep'em coming.

Hey man, yeah sure is... I’ll fill you in.. so in terms of stability and tracking and ease of getting it to places in the boot of a car and not having to leave a yak on the roof for theft. Silent on the water, relatively comfy and light. Tough not scared of popping. Paddles fast too Weight it’s great. Down side is it does get more wind blown than a normal kayak and no rod holders and I wouldn’t take it out too far. I got it because I fish some poor access lakes and if I fish a river I can just leave it in the car and don’t need racks. Also I’m stuck here in nz atm and have a boat and yak in oz. didn’t want to get a logistic issue here. So yeah look for what I needed I’m happy with it and it was cheap. But if your keen on fishing and want a sounder and rod holders you’ll need to make some form of caddy up the front that can slot under the foot bar think and could have a removable box with sounder and rod holders there. I was going to do that but didn’t as I’ll be heading back at the end of the year. I’ve got several vids using it. Another new one coming next week

@@AdriftFishing cool mate, thanks for the response. I was thinking of getting this as a cheap second kayak so my partner can tag along sometimes in calm conditions. Sounds like it would do the job. Does it have a rigid bottom similar to an inflatable paddle board?

@@Fishingreminder its not rigid like plastic. but ill explain it like this. the boat is two tubes on each side that inflate. there is a heavyduty same material water proof layer floor then built into the nose of that floor is an inflatable keel. then.... there is a floor you insert which inflates just like a SUP and this slots in between the under curve of the side tubes and the floor and doesnt come out when inflated. thats what the seat and you sit on, and its solid when pumped up. It also has two SUP fins that go underneath, one under bum and one up from for tracking. Also i can stand and cast from it in the calm so pretty stable man.

But it is coming to the end of its life. I had to patch it up a few times and now I don't feel 100% comfortable anymore paddling too far from shore. Now I just gotta have to decide if I replace it with a new iSUP or with the K2 😆

@@Fishingreminder yeah fair enough. lol yeah you still need good balance for sure, i only do it sometimes but would probably go in if i did it for long periods or didnt see a swell coming. mind you i did tip my hobie outback standing up for a piss and looked up at a sea gull flying overhead and lost my bearings and ended up in the drink lol! For close local nice weather fishing i find it good. if i had racks and was staying long term i would probably go a decent yak, but fit for the purpose i need man. and great for camping too.

Abu Rasheed hey dude, thanks for the view. I’m running an OA microwave v2. which if I could only have one rod ever I would chose that any time! It’s caught me everything from snapper to a 20kg kingfish!! Check out my videos it’s in there (super light tackle kingfish) Reel is a sustain 2500 with 15lb j braid. I’m a big daiwa fan boy, but I do enjoy the stronger gearing of the shimano. Hope this helps. But yeah that rod man is insane!

Very cool John. Those fleas are good for sure. Looks like you put in some paddling effort, Those kahawai were in pretty flash condition eh! I'd like to hear your preference on colours for the different species. We all have our thing but I always like blue for ky, red or orange for gurnard, silver for trevs and contrasting colours for snaps. What are your thoughts?

Hmmmm interesting. generally apart from in certain situations im not overly colour driven. but if i had to pic colours for certain species. then KY inshore i would go something with a bronze back but that may be an ozzie preference, or the mini pilchard pattern everywhere else. kings i almost always run blue silver with pink on the belly. snapper my favorite is nuke chicken but that's because i have caught so many species on that colour scheme also in gulp for so many fish that its just a number one tie on for me. and trevs i have found silver and white in anything micro to be dynamite. now if i was fly fishing... green over white and yellow over white any day. one time in fiji i was getting one after another land based gt and wahoo among other things until i ran out of yellow over white. once i changed then the bite changed with it. wow sorry a bit of a ramble. getting carried away. my rule of thumb not species orientated would be (inshore or coloured water) brighter colours/greens/yellows (further out and clear water) more naturals or pinks in the Flea. my go to is white and pure silver. and 14g for the trevs

Front Range Bass Bullies haha funny. Yeah five weeks 100% no fishing. No doing nothing but walk your dog in isolation. Now they pulled the lock down back a little bit and you can fish of the beach but no rocks. No jet skis or boats yet for another week or two. But you can kayak and surf as long as your isolated from ppl. Crazy times aye

Adrift Fishing am using a LSF kayak 10 foot with pedal drive. Very effective and goes quite smoothly on the water. It’s same as Narval 10 kayak but from a different brand. Haven’t done offshore yet cz i recently bought last Nov. planning to do some offshore soon.
