The 5 stages: 0:49 stage one "denial" 2:00 stage two "anger" 3:33 stage three "bargaining" 4:30 stage four "depression" 7:56 stage five "acceptance" Thank you for this video!
@dennisdowАй бұрын
Side note, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross didn't ever document these as stages but aspects of grief. Remarkable work at the time, but her survey was simply a single point in time. She diminished the "stages" idea about 7 years after publishing her work, but by then, the industry had latched on to it as dogma. She later surrendered to the fallacy

Why is this so accurate? I have an MIS degree, and a Sec+ in a heavily DoD city. I'll have customers ask, "Why are you working here with a Sec+?" Bruh, idk. My resume is good, I have Sec+ and Google Cyber Cert, maybe it's HR's fault.
@aa1bb2cc3dd4Ай бұрын
Sec+ doesn't mean anything, and most people understand that. It's a good start but that's about it. It doesn't really show advanced skills. Even CISSP isn't truly impressive. Experience is what counts.

I also majored in Computer Science in uni. And the debugging was the worst. And that is 80% of the job. So even then I knew that wasn't for me. I did my minor in Cybersec, then worked for an year as an auditor during which time I focused on getting some certs. And now I am a pentester! And ever since I got this job, I have been studying even harder than before. Most evenings and weekends are spent learning. But I love it. And I now somehow love getting errors and debugging. But debugging with the goal of learning more about the system and breaking it is a lot more fun than debugging to fix it. 😆

Managed a bug on intigriti but no payout due to being out of scope. Started having some interest from employers after I made my HTB profile public and linked my writeups. Get MASSIVE differences in what companies are looking for, some require CompSci degree and charted certs. Others dont care about certs and whant proof of the pudding (presumably had to many compsci kids who couldnt hack it...excuse the pun)

You know what is relatable irl? That even through prestigious MEng studies in Cryptography, coupled with multiple months of constant learning and over a year of working experience as DevOps, I was able to land maybe 2 inteviews for CyberSec related roles... and they offered minimal wages for Expert position, On-site, in a big city. I had to literally change career path into fcking management to hope for anything decent. I don't want to discourage anyone but the reality is brutal, even if you are able to do your job even before any actual work experience, the corporate world will swallow you up and shit you out. Thus, getting an entry position is a torture, and the salaries are horrible, if you accept this fact then keep going and good luck.

I had to take a position as a datacenter technician as my skills rusted HORRIBLY (due to how outdated everything was at the previous place)!!! I am getting back into where I should be slowly. Now, if I want to become that cybersecurity guy here, I could talk with the main security guru for some extras (garbage work) in order to skill up AND slowly inch there while already collecting a paycheck.

I’m over halfway through my cloud computing degree at WGU. I have Sec+, A+, and I’m about to get Net+. I also have some cloud certs and the Linux fundamentals cert. I’ve gained enough confidence to have competent conversations with people about networking, the cloud, and cybersecurity. Here’s my question to anyone in the industry: On paper, do you think this is a solid enough background to start applying for jobs? I’ve been focusing on bolstering my resume for a while before I start applying for a lot of jobs. I know there are other factors like networking, but I could use any validation for the work I’ve put in, or any criticism is also welcome.
@madhatistakenАй бұрын
Those are good start. If you have some IT background I'd say you could start applying to jobs now for sure. If no IT background it might be a tough sell in the current state of the job market (high supply of applicants). The jobs that are listed now are going to be different than the ones you apply to after you graduate WGU and you never know if one of those jobs is truly entry level with the employer looking to teach someone on the job - so it will never hurt you to try applying. But it all comes down to time and whether you can handle the discouragement of not hearing back from most places.
