Below is a brief introduction of Dr. Gowri Subramanya in her own words.
Childhood:
I hail from a small village Gondetimmanahalli in Tumkur district, born to Sri. T.N.Bharath Raj and Smt. Sunandamma on Dec 17th, 1957. I spent most of my childhood with my grandfather Late Dr. N Narasimhamurthy at Mysore and did my schooling & music classes there. My grandfather was the founder of Nikhila Karnataka Ayurvedic Pharmacy. He always encouraged me to study, learn Sanskrit and music.
Interest in Medicine:
Many patients used to visit my grandfather every day. I used to observe his methods of diagnosis by asking the right questions to understand the problem. I used to assist him in giving medicines. He created several formulas and prepared medicines on his own. During the preparations, he often explained to me the importance of the ingredients and preparation methods. The roots, leaves and other herbs he brought home was the prime source of medicine for all of us at the family. This created a strong desire in me to take up medicine since my child hood days. He became my role model.
Education:
Though my desire was to take up medicine as a career, couldn’t pursue it due to lack of guidance and facilities. I graduated with a B.Com degree from Mysore University in the year 1980. I was always a merit student and a topper in Accountancy.
In the year 1975, I completed the Diploma in Computers in distinction conducted by Bombay Institute on the subject “Bureau of Data Processing Systems”
In the year 1978 & 79, I also completed the short hand training and cleared the junior exams too.
Cultural Activities:
Music and dance was always my field of interest. I could also get good training in classical music which helped me to establish myself as a singer in Mysore. I used to sing folk songs, light music and film songs in several functions, programs and competitions. I have won several prizes too.
Playing Mandolin is one of my favorite hobby till date. I got the training from Master Ratan in Mysore. I have also performed as a Mandolin player at several occasions and taught many students in Bangalore
Training As a doctor:
From the age of 13, during my school vacations and free time, I joined my grandfather at the pharmacy where he used to treat several patients. He introduced me to the herbs & different medicinal preparations such as Churnas, tablets, Lehyas & tonics.
