What was shared was like reading something from internet. Expected some demonstration with some depth so people watching can understand the sharing better.

Agree. He is either not very articulate or is nervous.

Can you please release amrita murali's and L Ramakrishnan's lecdem on yadukulakamboji soon?
Why so much English in a Tamil audience..if u must use English, pls do it as a translation and not primary mode of communication..this is a significant problem with Tamizh people!

If 'ma' is used as 'sa', does it not become sruti bhedam?

Yes let's ponder on that, after such a wonderful lecdem with so many interesting points and great research. Not fair

The ratio of frequencies between lower sa and pa is same as that of ratio between Ma and higher sa. That is why ma when taken as sa gives same effect and ear may not find any difference.

Very good lecdem by the young vidwan. However, it is puzzling why he mentioned Maaye as one of the kritis that is sung in madhyama shruti. It is well known that the popular version of Maaye, which is sung equivalent to chenjurutti, is a blatantly incorrect version. The original Maaye in Tarangini is sung correctly in "sama shruti"

1.) It is certainly sung in madhyama sruthi by many musicians which is a fact 2.) We can not pass judgements like it's blatantly wrong to sing in a certain way as none of us were present when it was being composed .

@@bharatsundar179 Dear Bharat, I concede that Maaye is popularly sung in madhyama shruti, which is a fact. However, to include this "fact" in a scholarly presentation, without acknowledging the inherent dubiousness of said fact, is problematic. Let us agree on certain other facts: 1. Tarangini is the asampoorna equivalent of charukesi, and therefore has the smaller dhaivatam. 2. The version of maaye that is popularly sung is basically chenjurutti, which has the higher variety of dhaivatam. Notwithstanding Shri. Sanjay's comment about giving SSP too much importance, when it comes to Dikshitar kritis and the paddhati that he followed, we have no recourse but to resort to the SSP (and other oral traditions). Also, while public performance can and should influence lakshanas, we must exercise the power of discretion at certain times. When mamava pattabhirama is sung in madhyama shruti the raga is still manirangu. In the case of maaye, for whatever reason, this is sadly not the case. There are many living legends - Prof. SRJ, Shri V.V. Subramaniam, Smt. R. Vedavalli, Prof. R. Visweswaran, to name a few, who still sing/play maaye as it ought to be. I implore you to listen to their renditions. This was a small, but important point in an otherwise excellent lecture. Thanks for your work. Apologies for the long reply.

That is just one among a huge number of modified kritis. Singing the present version in madhyama shruti is very challenging as you have to hit the upper nishadam!!
