It did sorta. He was on ads, packaging and manuals for a few NES classics of theirs; but everyone my age associated them way more with Mega Man. Even back then it was "who is this guy supposed to be again?"

Like many beatem’ ups of the time this game suffers from erocketile dysfunction. Every time you fire a rocket it just goes about 4 feet and plops to the ground.

Other than Captain Commando all the other characters look like beat-em-up henchmen.

I believe the SNES game Pirates of Dark Water is a Beat 'em Up.

People only remember Captain Commando because of MvC2, and I kinda see why. Final Fight 2 this is not.
