Thanks for such fun, uplifting content!! I went through the same thought process about matching pickups with campers. I ended up buying a F-250 4x4, and I put a nice topper on it. I am so happy and have no regrets for not buying the camper. A wise friend advised me by saying, that it is an upward process and if you buy a camper, you will never go back down to buying a topper. You can always go up to a camper, if you want. Another friend just yesterday told me that she camps in the summer, in the back of her pickup, under her Tonneau cover.

It is always a good idea to be prepared for sleeping inside your vehicle in winter time. It happened to me one time that I had to sleep in my SUV during one winter night without heat insulation. I had to endure the cold and I learned my lesson. Be always prepared for anything outdoors and I think you’re doing a great job in your videos.

Sweet, I just set up my F-150 crew cab with basically the same setup. Used a seat extender (used for pets to sit/lay comfortably) for the back seats and put my bags under the hangover for extra support! Jackery Explorer 1000… Bougerv 28L fridge… tonneau cover… using military style duffel bags for temporary organization… eureka stove… nomad crate grill… purchased the window covers from Amazon (work amazing!)… and I got weathertech window deflectors for being able to keep my windows cracked (good buy!)…. It’s a start for me! Me and my golden - soon to be having our own adventures just like you 🤞

SUGGESTION Madison, you dont have to buy a huge topper, but at least get a basic shell or one you can sit up in at a minimum if you do. Sit up wout being hunched over. Other YTs ive seen that cant sit up are crammed and always laying on their sides struggling to cook, organize, film, etc. If you dont do anything, you still may want to get a tarp or some system that gives you some cover when you leave your truck to get to your stuff, or sit under, etc, bc right now youre open to the elements once u leave your cab. I know this is down the road, but if u plan to keep your truck, id get it undercoated in Canada. The salts and road ice melt chemicals will eat your truck alive. Great vids as always and your signature is that you pack and go and make due with what you have. Fun to watch. Be safe and good luck navigating your Life's bumps at the moment.

Awesome! so glad for you . I have a 2021 Toyota Tundra double cab. I got a soft "roll up " tonneau cover. I cut out my 'stake pockets" along my bed rails and made a wood rack out of cedar 2x4's and lag bolts/carriage bolts, to carry my canoe! it work great and way cheaper than metal proprietary racks, and more versatile. I dont winter camp (yet). I'm a canoe camper at this point. but I fit all my hammock, tarp, fishing gear, cookware etc in my rig no problem. get 10ply tires for out back logging roads and you won't pop a tire! I got Goodyear Dura Trac and they have been worth the money! peace from New England USA and merry Christmas/ Happy NewYEAr !!!

That truck is great and is going to make your travels so much easier and more versatile. I have never had a camper on mine and never will because it's harder to get around and carry a car topper for fishing. A canopy is great but make sure there is fabric lining inside because of heavy condensation. Condensation can build up in your truck cab in and behind upholstery better to sleep in the box it's easier to air out and get dry. Diesel heaters work wonders in this regard. Have fun.

Hey, I have a 2022 Ford Ranger and what I did for my dog is.. 1) take the rear seats out.. unless you have kids they just get in the way 2) make a wooden "shelf" out of thick cabinet grade plywood that sits about 1-2 feet off of the floor and fits the curvature of the back seat and doors for a flush fit 3) made little pillars to support the shelf out of 2x2 inch stakes 4) coat the plywood shelf in carpet adhesive 5) cover in marine carpet (to avoid splinters, etc) I had planned on taking a large block of memory foam and cutting it to size but I found a crib mattress was a "close enough" fit and allowed me to cover it in crib sheets for easy washing. My dog loves it but if I ever find myself wanting to sleep in the truck I'd put a fifth pillar in the middle for extra support and sleep back there with the dog You get a ton of storage available under the platform and it has been my favorite addition to the truck so far. It also doubles as a "trunk" of sorts when driving around town where you can store valuables away from prying eyes.
@runescape273811 ай бұрын
Oh I forgot to mention that I made the legs attachable via machine bolts with recessed metal inserts into the legs so that you can easily unscrew the legs repeatedly without risking damage so you can take out the platform when you need to, should you want your back seats again

For the use of the Mr Buddy please be careful since the manual warns to not use it in enclosed space (Canadian and Massachussetts version). Moreover it is recommended to have a low level carbon monoxide detector in these small spaces. They trigger much faster than the regular ones made for households, this is particularly important in tight spaces where CO accumulates very quickly.

If you sell the Ram1500, get a Toyota Tacoma, that's what I have and it is great. I am 6'2 and can sleep in the 5'0 bed if I leave the tailgate down and sleep at an angle. Other option is sleeping in the backseat but my legs have to be bent quite a bit lol. However, I also do not have a dog. And the Tacoma has one of the most reliable engine you could get.

a great tip when car camping in the winter without engine if is raining, pull a large tarp over the veichle if you are going to camp a few days: When the car does not get wet, it does not cause so much moist inside and it is super cosy I also recommend bringing a biolite for long trips because you wont to bring gas

For my truck I ditched the canopy and went with low profile rack and a hardshell clam style rooftop tent. Keeps all the cab space free and you'll have tons of bed space for extra equipment and luxury items. If you really wanna get serious about storage and securing your gear you won't regret looking up Decked boxes for the bed
@tyeetamer Жыл бұрын
You would have had way more space if you kept the canopy and put the rooftop tent on top. Also the Decked systems are pretty inefficient space wise. New version is better, but still not optimal.

Nice truck! I suggest upgrading your air compressor when you get a chance. You have larger truck tires. Whether you use it for emergencies or if you are actually planning on airing down you will need something better. I have a truck and I am guessing my compressor is more robust than yours but not by much given how expensive they can get. Trying to air up two tires that were kind of low really taxed the little guy and blew a fuse. If you are planning on airing down much then you will really need something much better in the $200 + range at least. I am not at the right place to get one yet but looking at the Morrflate.
@Tazzspaz Жыл бұрын
I have a Diamondback cover that I absolutely love! It is just about as waterproof as you can get. However, I suggest you still invest in some more bins for storage. No matter what you will be fighting the elements if you keep stuff in bags. Loading and unloading, scooting stuff around, etc. My preference is to use storage that has a hinged lid.

If you have the money, i suggest getting the hard topper for the back of the truck (the metal canopy as you called it). It's perfectly ideal for a good camper setup. You can cook inside there and there is plenty of head space if you are shorter, I am 5'7ft and i can sit up inside of mine. You can sleep much better and have room for the doggo. Buy a bedrug for a little extra comfort and some insulation. I could never sleep in my cab. Sell the tonneau cover and get a topper. Best of luck.

They make air mattresses that fit in the gap of a truck back seat. Although, I have never used one. I have a truck bed tent (don't use the complicated and heavy Kodiak tents). I store everything in my bed with a Peragon Retractable Tonneau Cover. The cover folds up and comes off. I store it and the equipment in the back seat. Then I put my tent and mattress up in the bed. Also, get or make a car window screen to cover your window (from bugs) and always crack a window. It will keep the moisture out of your cab. I am from Florida, so I have no clue how to survive in the snow.

Id recommend a camper shell (hard shell) set up with a rack attached to your hitch to store extra moto style gas cans. Or if it’s too cold to to sleep in your camper shell and you sleep in your truck you can run your truck for a while for heat, carrying extra gas for your vehicle is key when being off road for long periods of time. Propane heaters are not safe indoors what so ever. Even if it says “safe” for indoors, it means large spaces that are ventilated. One leak and you’re dead.

When you were walking through items in the truck bed, you mentioned having a battery/jump starter. I would keep that inside the cab if you can to keep it warm, batteries like that can die or lose charge in the cold.

Vehicles really don't offer much protection against the cold due to their lack of insulation, and steel can be much colder than being in a tent. Snow would insulate better than your vehicle. It's all a learning process. Happy camping

How have you found the decrease in L/100km(mpg)? Hopefully you got a high enough trim to have Auto 4x4 as you will have to drive around in 4x2 until it gets slippery unlike your Outback with AWD. Come summer you will be able to get further into the backcountry with the Ram. I would suggest if you can finding an off road driving course. The Overland Expo’s are a good place to find classes. I think there was one in Bend Oregon (PNW) and West in Albuquerque New Mexico. You are lucky you can sleep in the back of your truck. Didn’t know the Ram floor was flat.
@barrycarey7521 Жыл бұрын
I guess the appropriate question is how much do you fidget when you sleep, if you toss and turn a lot you’d probably be better on the memory foam, whereas is you as if you sleep relatively stationary then with your slim petite figure you’d probably be fine on the back seat leaving floor space for storage . Definitely a smart choice to sleep in the cab because it will retain heat longer and like you already mentioned you have access to the drivers seat if you need a rapid departure from somewhere.

Congrats on the truck!! If you have the property to store one, I would definitely suggest watching for deals on used truck canopies online. Even if you don't use it till way later (if at all), finding a good price is impossible unless you retrofit. If it's cheap enough, you can usually make a few bucks reselling. Picked up an exact fit fiberglass one with lights/carpet in Kamloops for 800 after months of looking, but could probably resell for double. either way, I envy that you can fit in the backseat lol
