One of those guys is indeed Sho (the one with longest hair), and is interesting because in his speech with his friend he says he is mad at his girlfriend for not showing up lately and that he treated her as "a dog", saying that's how he treated girls and women. I don't know if this dialogue was lost due to the english dub but is actually important to know this to make the connection with Inui as Uhrmann.
@bluartist77092 жыл бұрын
i also think Sho also calls her a bitch because it means "female dog" or a "mean or disgusting woman", which makes sense because her witch form is a dog

In the dub the two guys talk about a third person named Sho implying the dub decided to have him be not present but still mentioned
@angeldude1017 ай бұрын
The dub technically keeps the reference, but it's heavily obscured just because of colloquial meanings. He specifically calls his girlfriend a "bitch", which on the one hand is just a typical insult that you hear all the time. On the other hand, the word "bitch"'s original, literal, meaning is a female dog. So it's technically true that he did call his girlfriend a dog in English just like in Japanese, but most English speakers probably wouldn't pick up on that.
@bixxbite74612 жыл бұрын
Considering her name is Japanese, her surname would come before her given name, which would make her full name Itsumi Inui. The kanji by themselves don’t seem to mean much, but I think her full name is supposed to sound like “itsumo inu” (いつも犬), which would literally translate to “always a dog”. It would make sense considering her witch form wants to be loved by everyone all the time, so I think that’s what they were going for!

On the subject of Yu's horn, I think another way to interpret it is a unicorn horn. Unicorns in stories have often been associated with purification and purity in general; Yu's insistence on killing those she thinks of as evil can be seen as "purifying" society. But I dunno, your theory is also pretty convincing so 🤷

@hermit_crab9922 жыл бұрын
@@sabrinareese3880 Yeah, I totally skimmed over those clown vibes, but they're definitely part of the design! It can go back to that theme of innocence, as clowns were traditionally seen as kid friendly figures. This might connect to Yu putting up an appearance of sorts, one of cheerfulness despite her macabre behaviors. She laughs at others' misfortunes because in her mind, they are well deserved. You could even infer that due to her backstory with her late girlfriend that maybe this is how she views herself: a clown who is the cause of her own misfortunes.

I used to think Nagisa was just an immature kid who was too young to properly think of her wish and that’s why she wished for cheese cake. I was so VERY wrong. Also I wonder if Mami gravitated towards Bebe/Nagisa cause she lost her own family (Maybe she had a younger sister or something) and Bebe helps fill that void like how Mami fills the motherhood void for Nagisa.
@fernandocuauhshihuacarbaja30942 жыл бұрын
Nagisa is the one that gravitates thowrads Mami actually as she said in her MSS. Nagisa says that she understands Mami as both are lonley girls and also kinda feels guilty for killing Mami as Charlotte, so she tries to make her happy to compensate that. She even saves Mami from herself (the Nagisa from the MSS is the one from the Madomagi universe while the Charlotte that attacks Mami is the Nagisa from Magireco universe).

I think Yu is based on the popular Japanese urban legend. According to the legend, a girl/woman with a face mask on will ask you if you think she is beautiful. Saying yes or no will doom you as she takes off her mask to reveal her mouth which is split open and then kills you. Yu wears a face mask and has a split mouth that she reveals in magical girl form which is the form she takes to kill her victims. The connection seems pretty obvious to me.

Yu actually appears in one other Magia Record story! She doesn't appear in-person, but some of her backstory is explained in the Beachside Bonds story. Her full name is Yumeno Yuusa, and her story is told through the diary of her friend Kei. I've also written some analyses of Nagisa myself before and I want to add that pre-magical girl Nagisa states that she doesn't like cheese, then at the end of the story while becoming Charlotte she begins to obsess over it and continues to do so when she makes her post-Law of Cycles appearances. Her monologue during the transformation shows her thoughts getting mixed up. Some wires got scrambled in her brain during that moment and knowing what she actually means when she talks about cheese adds some depth to her.

Gekidan INU Curry, who does everything Witches, from their conception to their looks and animations, is the one who entirely made the character of Yusa. Her backstory is somewhat explained in another event which is beach-themed. It explains that her and her girlfriend/friend engaged in mutual asphyxiation and tried to commit mutual suicide by throwing themselves down the cliff together. Her friend/lover died while Yusa survived and then contracted Kyubey. It is unknown what she wished for but it gave her the power to have her automatic magic hitlist and possibly even erased her memory. Since Gekidan INU Curry has also been working on writing, directing and animating the Magia Record anime, he couldn’t work more on Yusa, which is why her appearances stopped afterwards. He has shown concept art of her eye once before which made me believe her character is planned to be added to the game, which I fully expect to happen. Now that the Magia Record anime has ended, I’m excited to see him get to work on this amazing horrifying concept of a character. I would also like to say that Nagisa’s Valentine Alt has an outfit which much more fits with the rest of the Holy Quintet and is one of my favorite designs from the game. I don’t believe we’ll ever get Inui in the game however and I’m okay with that. I feel like we know enough about her already plus I don’t see a reason for her. Edit: they released Yuu btw.

The fact that Yu has stitches on her magical girl form and she constantly hunts down people she considers bad, makes me think she had a severely abusive family life. Maybe one day she was beaten so badly, especially to her head, that she had to have wounds stitched closed. Maybe Kyubii approached her while she was in the hospital and after signing a contract both the mental and physical trauma of her family life caused her to lose her memories, but maintain that hatred and anger towards "evil" people. Judging by the people she kills she seems to target those she deems as abusive, manipulative, and neglectful. Just like her family was to her. Idk if this is possible or not but while watching the video and thinking about the stitches and her knowledge of harvesting organs, it made me think she could've been a victim of black market organ harvesting? Or something like that. Maybe she could've been abducted or sold by her family and was having her body cut to harvest her organs and maybe her mouth got slashed during her attempt to escape. Kyubii could've approached her while she was trying to get away and that's when she formed a contract with him and now hunts and kills evil people, harvesting organs like people once tried to do. She speaks about it so calmly and somewhat positively that maybe she thinks it's ok for her to do it cause she believes she's putting these people to good use? idk that one got real dark ^^'

Nagisa’s weapon being a trumpet is interesting. She’s given something made to make a lot of noise and capture the attention of someone, but all that comes out are bubbles. Silent air that may catch someone’s attention visually, but never will be heard. I believe Her clothes are supposed to be winter clothes. Many winter based clothes such as scarves or hats are usually made as a gift, a symbol of love so I believe this symbolizes Nagisa wishing to be loved but it doesn’t properly cover her up and still leaves her cold.

Nagisa has more meaning to her magical girl, barrier, familiars and Witch/Doppel form and even name. In regards to her last name this can be read as "Hundred Rivers", while her weapon is a horn is because it is the instrument she loved to play in her music class. The story we get to know that despite her cute apperence Nagisa is "a creepy child" as she isn't just pessimistic but loves stories with tragic and sad endings, so as Charlotte her doll form might represent her cute and innocent appearence image while Charlotte's true and fearful form might represent her true creepy self. In regards to the chesse this might not be a literal things she wants, as is a metaphor. In her story she actually reveals to dislike chesse, but she buys it since is her mom's favorite food. So in regars to this the Chesse might represent her mom's love (also cheese is made of milk, the food which moms gave to their children) so the reason why her familiars Pyotr and Polina "search" and "nurse" cheese might be a reference to her mom's love, she wants her mom's love despite she doesn't need it as "she can make more candies", that been an attachment this (here is Charlotte's nature). In regards to her unique magic my guess is that it might be realted to her being more self-assertive (as the rebellion note say), maybe this being the reason why she can be more powerfull than she seems to be.

For Inui: I don't know if they use the correct kanji in Inui's name, but "Inu" is the Japanese word for "dog". So, canine witch. Also, I wonder if the cloud on Urmann's head symbolizes the way Inui refused to see the faults in Sho. We know Sho is a "bad man" (he's on Yu's magically updating list, and if he's the same age as the guys on the train, that means he's an adult messing around with a school girl). However, Inui continually says "they're lying", "they're just spreading rumors", and "no one knows him like I do". It's almost like there's a fog over her eyes, not letting her see the truth of it. For Yu's horn: you mentioned Yuna's horn, which has the decal similar to Yu's. Yuna's horn grew when she was "awakened"; I haven't kept up with the translation so I don't know what "awakened" actually means, but given that Yuna's horn was not part of her original form, that makes me wonder about it. If I remember correctly, Yuna's whole deal is that she wants to kill Iroha and co because the Magius' plans resulted in all the witches in the country leave their cities to go to Kamihama, resulting in a drought of grief seeds, thus leading to magical girls killing each other for the grief seeds. Futher, Yuna's "awakened" power allows her to hear the thoughts and feelings of her dead friends, and her goal is to avenge them by killing the ones responsible for their drought and subsequent gang war. But then that makes me wonder if all magical girls are capable of "awakening" and growing a horn like Yuna and Yu's. Further, Yuna and Yu's stories are very intimately connected with death and retribution. Yuna wants to avenge the deaths of her comrades, Yu wants to kill those on her list. Yu almost died in a botched lovers' suicide; perhaps that loss made her "awaken". And finally, about Yu's weapon. This might be a stretch, but what if it's her tongue? Hear me out: First, Yu's mouth scars. Nagisa's mom says her mouth "stretched" open. Yu's mouth also has the joker scars on her cheeks. Even explaining Yu's backstory with the suicide attempt, those injuries aren't really explained by a fall/drowning. But what if the scars are there to let Yu's mouth open wide to let something out. Then, the "stabbing". Perhaps Yu's "tongue" is a long, snake-like limb that resides in her mouth. Only, instead of eating things like Charlotte, it is used to stab things. Finally, Yu offers to help Nagisa, before Nagisa witnesses Yu killing her mother. Perhaps Charlotte's snake-tongue is a reference to Yu. Nagisa's character is filled with indecision; there may have been a part of her that wanted to follow Yu, to be with someone who treated her kindly (even if Yu is an awful person, she is kind to Nagisa). Or perhaps, it's reflection of how her mother was killed--by Yu's tongue. Nagisa wanted to be the reason her mother died but Yu got to her first; now as a witch, she takes the form of the thing that killed her mother, allowing her to live out her wish.

I love these videos! Theyre super interesting! I actually think Nagisa’s magical girl outfit/design is based off a peach! Even her name “Nagisa” sounds similar to “Nagasaki” , which is a prefecture that holds one of the oldest peach stones, or fossil of a peach.Anyway peaches in ancient Japan in the Heian to Kamakura era were used in medical practices, which could relate back to Nagisa’s backstory. Furthermore peaches are a symbol of fertility and long life, something that Nagisa failed to give to her mother. As she has shortened her life as well perhaps even ruining her mothers chances of carrying another child due to her illness and husband leaving. But this could just be me over thinking things, it could also be based off a cake. However she already has so many peach connections,but it sure is interesting…

I found a backstory piece from Yu after digging in the internet. As a child, Yu was friends with a girl named Kei in which she… practiced strangling with while Kei did the same. Soon, they both eventually gave up on the world and went to go commit suicide together. However, Kei is the only one who dies, leaving Yu with bruises and damage. However, Kei and Yu ULTIMATELY decided to vow to follow eachother through every single reincarnation. When Yu went back to school, everyone was giving her Pity and Yu felt like her old self had died with Kei, but she was starting to give up on everyone once again. Kyubey appears and makes a contract, but it doesn’t say what her wish would be. Also, after digging in the summary for the ribbon where the waves break, I found that there are a lot of connections between Yu and Homura.

Alright, so I know some Japanese and how to research kanji, so I'm going to help break down Inui Itsumi's name (伊津見 尹縫) a bit. Inui is spelled 尹縫. The first character (尹, I) is hard to define since it's a very historical one that isn't used often anymore, but I found out that it's actually connected to the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang, with it representing the feminine Yin, and the concept of the second. The second character (縫, nui) is a lot easier and actually plays into one of your theories about her and fashion, since it means "sewing" or "to sew". I know you already talked about her last name, but I still want to break it down. Itsumi is spelled 伊津見. The first character (伊, I) is technically a name kanji, which means it's another one that isn't typically used outside of names and is derived from Chinese, but it is just a way to denote "he" or "she" in speech. The second character (津, tsu) means "haven", "port", or "ferry". And the last character of her surname (見, mi) is by far the easiest, and actually references the Watch Man concept from Uhrmann you were talking about, since its the kanji for "seeing", "watching", and "looking" (to see, to watch, to look). Hope this helped! Edit: For fun, I wanted to do Yuu's name (夢乃 夕乍) as well. Yuusa is spelled 夕乍. The first character (夕, Yuu) means "evening", while the second character (乍, sa) is a bit harder to define. It can often mean "first", "but", or "suddenly". Personally, I thinking reading it as "Evening Suddenly" is a way to represent how she suddenly ends cuts people's lives short, since life is often represented as a day with the evening or night representing the end of your life. Her last name, Yumeno, is spelled 夢乃. The first character (夢, Yume) is another easy one, as it is the kanji for "dream". The next character (乃, no) has many meanings, but it is often interpreted as possessive or meaning "of" or "from". So Yuusa Yumeno means "first/sudden evening of/from dreams" or "dream's first/sudden evening" if we combine it with her first name.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet but Yuna’s mask and the slit mouth in her Magical Girl form makes me think of the Urban Legend of Kuchisake Onna. The fact she impales people, and the fact Nagisa’s mother was stabbed leads me to believe Yuna is using scissors as her weapon, just like Onna. Also while this part is a stretch I think Yuna’s motivation to kill being whether or not she deems if someone is good or bad kinda ties into how Onna kills people based on how they describe the way she looks. Just food for thought

Inu is usually used to mean "dog". Literally the Japanese word for dog. Like "Inuyasha" the half-breed dog demon. So her name means "Good Dog".

Not really, even thought her name could sound like dog as it is written in kanjis it can be read moreless as "Oficial Rank Sewing".

Itsumi with her kanji can be translated as "That one harbor to see" and Inui can be translated as " An official rank to sew"

Wow! I just got into this show recently and have been binging all your videos on it. It is just amazing how much detail they put into every part of this show; one of my favorite soundtracks, amazing art, and complex characters. Of course, none of the main characters will ever be as good as Madoka’s teacher; we all know she’s top-tier. “NEVER MARRY A MAN WHO COMPLAINS ABOUT HOW HIS EGGS ARE COOKED!”

17:19 hahahahaha, oh that's DARK. 伊津見 尹縫 When broken down to 伊 津 見 尹 縫 means ...HAHAHA 伊 They 津 Tears (cry) [can also mean gushing/overflowing] 見 You see 尹 Officer/ranking 縫 Sewing There are SO many implications for that! Is it Inui say "He's not so bad! He has feelings like everyone else, he's soft, *They cry you see,* like they soft boy they are" and also the story telling you out right " *She* is gonna end up heart broken and *crying you'll see.* " and an allusion to her fashion hobby that we see in her familiars.

Ok, I know I'm really, really late. One thing that was holding me back from fully believing in the 'Yu is Candy' theory is that Yu is mostly represented by the colour yellow, where as Candy's labyrinth and overall design is primarily pink. BUT Yu's girlfriend, Kei, is represented by the colour pink. Yu was obsessed with Kei, so maybe that's why pink is a very prominent colour in Candy's design. It might be a stretch, I know, but I just wanted to point it out.

Yu's past was elaborated on in full during the first summer event though. But I guess that doesn't really have much to do with Nagisa

Really love your madoka magica theories! Especially your witches' observation, which is why I got hooked with the franchise of Madoka Magica in the first place. Hopefully you'll also tackle the new witches in magia record such as Boxwood, Eteilla, Mapycr, Lucy, Raspberry, Oshiti, Slave of Anima, and others if there are still some that I missed! Looking forward for your next project in the franchise

Now that I think about it, I have two little theories that go towards your assumption that Yu became candy. First off, I thought about folklore, and remembered a legend about the killer rabbit. It kinda fits with Yu’s aesthetic of killing people, not to mention that even Candy’s witch card says that one should not let their guard down. Looking at Yu’s costume and appearance, she has a similar aesthetic to Candy, especially with the collar kinda shaped like a ballerina skirt. The stitches in my opinion does tie it all together like you said

here I got some tips for you and you can probably refer to : 1. “der Mann” most commonly means male, husband. But also (lord’s) retainer, and royal follower (like who inui is) 2. Uhrmann actually sounds kinda like “woman” to me (you can find the right pronounce with google)
@poppunpresents2 жыл бұрын
Charlotte's name gains an additional layer if you look at a picture of a Charlotte Royale specifically, which is often described as looking like a brain Inui's witch form is also foreshadowed a bit by her name having the word for dog (inu) in it phonetically, even if the kanji isn't in it; curiously dogs can only see in green. Also Urhmann sounds similar to Ermine, which is the name of a type of weasel and her witch form is similar to a greyhound or whippet with are hunting dogs (presumably weasels since both are built for agility and the dogs have a delicate build which implies they were used to hunt smaller animals), I wonder if those were intentional An interesting side to Yu's lack of guilt is that Japan has a particularly drastic shortage of organ donors, in part due to an older belief that permanent cuts to the body increase the time it takes you to reincarnate (or to some preventing it entirely). Though there has been some change in the strength of that belief, for better or worse; at the moment it's mostly limited to things like no longer counting having pierced ears, but organ donation rates are especially low. Odds are the technology to 3D print new organs will make it a moot point, but that's probably why she's so comfortable with what she's doing, to her she's getting rid of bad people and saving good ones. Yu also makes me think of the kuchisake onna as both have a cut mouth hidden under a medical mask. I also suspect her wish is part of why she can't remember her life before becoming a magical girl, and given the story behind the kuchisake onna, it's understandable she'd want to forget the circumstances leading up to it. Interpreting her as Candy's magical girl is interesting since Candy's dress hem is similar to Yu's collar, and the younger child aspects to Candy's design could tie into something she never had, or that she's younger in the sense that her memory not going back very far, possibly both. EDIT: Looking back at the other videos and at Yu's backstory on the wiki, I think she might actually be Zenobia. Zenobia is described as looking like a young lady but acting like a child, which could tie into her upper class background and older age, but also her being unable to move on beyond her childhood friendship, as well as her current self having a very simple view of good and bad (and again, it's easy to see why she would want to erase her own memories), the beach also ties into her backstory. Furthermore, Yu's magical girl form has a similar collar to Zenobia and is bald, which could tie to the sand hair. Her friend Kei could then be Paola, given what happens to her and the information we have for Paola Another interesting thing is Nagisa having connections to both Yu & Mami; in Magic Angel Creamy Mami, Mami was the magical alter ego to a girl named Yu, the show had no character named Nagisa, though it did feature a song called Nagisa no Memory or "Memory of the Beach"

I really love your Madoka videos! They are really good and cool analyses! Btw, this version of Nagisa's backstory is for the Nagisa in Magia Record. The one in Rebellion/Madoka Magica doesn't have a clear backstory, but it's probably something like the one you theorized, so you weren't wrong. (For more info about what I mean look at the start of the event with Nagisa in a theater, which can be found in some videos of the event on YT.)

Kuchisake-onna, that is what I believe to be what yu is based on, from her split mouth and mask that she wears to her weapon that, if I'm correct in my assumption of her being based on a Kuchisake-onna, would be a pair of long medical scissors, something she could impale with if they were big enough. The Kuchisake-onna is also a onryo, a ghost that takes revenge on those that wronged it in life, though usually just kills innocent people, this could reflect her bad guy list.

Two years late but I'd thought that Yu would be more related to a Japanese myth. I forgot what the myth is called, though. I believe it's called... Kuchisake Onna? The myth is a girl who is wearing a mask, hiding her mouth that is just gaping wide open just like how Nagisa's mother described and comes up to someone asking "Am I beautiful?". If the person says no, the person will be killed by her.

I know I'm a bit late but I think that Nagisa's magic might have something to do with the ability she showed in Rebellion where she turned Homulily's familiars tiny using a serving dish and ate them. This would fit in with her wish as she wished for something to eat, in turn making her magic the ability to consume enemies and turn them into deadly bubbles.

about Uhrmann... I've done some German and while your translations could be that too, I was thinking it'd be far more fitting with her concept for it to be something like "Man of the Hour" since Uhr is also hour and Mann can also just be "a man" rather than your husband. (though it probably just means something like watchmaker)
@momotama28552 жыл бұрын
One thing that's interesting is that for the Magia record universe, this universes version of Nagisa's back story only applies to this universe and this one alone. They said at the beginning of this event that in other universes it is unknown and that it isn't the same. Since in the original anime Nagisa's design actually looked like Charlotte to a tee I think they ended up changing it cause they didn't know what to really do with her at first. They thought she would be a 1 off character and that's it. However due to the popularity from the fans they brought her to the forefront and changed her up. Why they changed her more idk however since her original wish from her anime description said she didn't believe she could heal her mom and so wish for a cheesecake for her instead compared to her just wishing for the cheesecake kinda as a way to spite her mom, I feel she was a different child all together

@YandMProductions2 жыл бұрын
Amazing video. Very well done. Though, there are two things I'd like to add. The first is that... well... You neglected to mention the disclaimer at the start of that Nagisa story event. Long story short, it say something along the lines of: Hey, so, this story might not actually be canon, so if we retcon it in a movie or a manga or something, that's why. But this story did happen, since Madoka has long since established the existence of a multiverse (2 at least, if we're being honest). Just possibly not in any timeline we've seen so far. And personally, the fact they needed this for the backstory of a relatively minor character is hilarious to me. The second thing is a possibility for Yu's wish, magical ability and possibly her backstory. Admittedly, this theory is based on a sample size of two, but of the people who Yu kills that she deems bad, they both are the reasons the magical girls made their wishes. And she seems to know who they are, even as soon as the girl becomes a magical girl. Either that or her list can see the future, since there's a clip you use where Yu says that "Nagisa" Momoe isn't on her list, implying she knew about her mother's name beforehand. My theory is that she may have met a magical girl or 2 when she was young (matching with how she can't remember what life was like before she was a magical girl), but watched her/them suffer and saw that the cause was due to an individual who their wishes were used for. In childish anger, she wished she could get payback on those people for making her friends miserable. Thus, her list is her magical power, being able to tell if a person was responsible for the wish of a magical girl. So, hypothetically, if she were ever in the same area, she would target Kyosuke for Sayaka or Sana's mother and stepfamily. Mind you, I could be wrong or offbase, but I think it's not a terrible idea to go on for Yu.

I’m I the only one that thought Nagisa’s Magical girl outfit resembles a cow?? Like the brown overall, the small pig tails, the ears, etc. plus it would make sense since cow make cheese and She loves cheese.

A thought on Nagisa's magical girl outfit. It is notably different from other outfits in the fact that it's made up of warm winter clothing (albeit stylized). Warm clothing is often used as shorthand for a mother's love since caring moms stereotypically want to bundle their kids up to protect them from cold weather. So put simply, a mother's warmth.

project autobiography 1 second ago I haven’t played the game but I think Yu might be or resemble a Kuchisake-onna (slit mouthed woman), it’s a Japanese urban legend and she tends to cover her mouth and stab people to death, so maybe that’s something. (She does however only kill them if they call her ugly and doesn’t have a horn I believe so I could be totally off track)

Possibly Bebe getting the rainbow eyes in Rebellion reflects that Bebe is now her true form with Charlotte being a transformation, where in the original series Charlotte was her true form and the doll was a disguise.
