You should react to the AMERICAN LIFE music video, but the original banned version! She ended up not releasing this original version because it was filmed just before the US officially invaded Iraq and the controversial music video was set to be released around the same time and she stated she didn't want people to misinterpret the destructive and violent nature of the music video. The song is from the album American Life, which at the time was her least commercially successful, but in my opinion it's actually one of her best. Definitely one of her most creative and experimental albums. It's got a strong political message, it comments on how 'fame' shouldn't be the ultimate goal in life and it makes the listener question what they consider to be 'the American dream'.

i was 8 years old when this first aired on MTV. My mom was so scandalized when she encounter me singing every word while trying to do the chair choreography. Still to this day I feel this is her best moment on her career. Peak Madonna. The video was so so out there for the time it came out, she was really pushing a lot of boundaries. It is also so beautiful and simple... it its just a white set some promps and a killer choreographer. Madonna is queen because of moments like this. The Open Your Heart video started my Madonna obsession at age 9! I'll always remember my mom called me into the room saying, "Come see this girl!" because she knew I'd like the dancing. When I first saw this video it was on the music channel in the U.K at the time called "The Box" it was shown weeks in advance before its official single release. I loved it then as I still do now. Fun fact, prior to this video, Madonna was blonde (Secret, Take A Bow). She had regrowth of her brown hair, so they tied latex strips to the blonde parts of her hair to create this look. This is also my favourite music video of hers. She wrote it to the critics who slammed her after Erotica, Girlie Show and Sex book.

I was ten in 1995 and yes, I loved that video and had no idea what it was about but thought it was cool. Since I'm not from an English speaking language nobody in my home had any idea what the video was about either so my parents never thought to even ask me to change the channel.
