For those that don't know Madonna's inspirations, prior historical trend setters, roll models. Martha Graham: was an American contemporary pioneer in Modern Dance. Actually, since Madonna majored in dance. And when Madonna moved to NYC. Madonna joined Martha Grahams dance ensemble, for a brief stunt. If you Google Martha Graham. You see the inspiration to this video.

Very impressed with your analysis of this song and video. Most reactions to M back catalogue are not very thoughtful, the younger generation isn’t very bright and get caught up in how she looks or the fashion ( which is part of the package yes) but they lose the message. It’s quite depressing. I was 20 when this came out. It was her introduction back to the music scene after a 4 year hiatus. She had recently given birth to her first child, and motherhood changed her perspective on life, she became far more consciously introspective during this time at the ripe age of 40. Ray of light the music video swept the VMAs in 98 , but I felt this video was superior. Fun fact, originally the video was going to be filmed in Iceland, but proved to be to cold. She was barefoot. The desert was cold too -and desolate, mimicking the lack of emotional honesty referenced in the song. Thank you for your reaction. I subscribed

Yes! Nowadays new generations (say less than 27 or 28) are accustomed in receiving any information including media and entertainment so fast ,digestible and recyclable the details are ignored or depth and experimental ideas are not a thing, symptom of living in the information era but not the knowledge era.... ..not like back in the days, where artists were more experimental and breakthrough because there were many more social and mind barriers to open and the art and messages were more raw, was more of finding the lost gems or hidden art message of the video. The impact of the music video like it was created in the 80s and 90s is something we may never see again executed with that cinematic experimental brilliance and with a social purpose that nowadays the majority of young generations and video reactors assume they were born with that artistic freedom or that special effects or social narratives in music were not a “thing” pre 2000s 😂
@ernestgutierrez64284 жыл бұрын
You got it . Vapid. DanD I believe one of them is named. One reacted to Like a prayer and the simple, pretty straight forward message went right over his little head. It’s sad actually. They really comment on how “ old “ the video looks., and use words like “ sis” and others. It’s sad, I mean, I was 12 when LAP was released I understood it was about racial inequality and the hypocrisy of the Christian church. It’s sad really, and they’re not even that attractive to look at either

I'm glad that you're letting the whole video play through. I think this is the most professional and unobtrusive way of reacting. While I don't mind short comments or a video being paused two to three times, anything more than becomes an annoyance, and makes you give up watching certain KZbinrs reactions. At that point it stops being a reaction and becomes a commentary, as I'm sure many watchers will agree. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Great job breaking down the video and song, Dereck. One of my favorite Madonna songs. This is from the Ray of Light CD, the first music she released after Evita. Her vocals on this song are so pristine. You can really tell the impact of all the vocal training she did to prepare for Evita. The only negative thing I could say about the song itself is that I feel it just kind of goes on a little too long. The thing I like most about the song (other than her vocals) is how the song is in such a minor key. It doesn't really have a mainstream sound to the song, but it was a pretty big hit. It just goes to show just how popular she was at the time it was released.
