For those that call themselves fans and then turn around and talk negatively about her appearance, I have 1 thing to say. I would like to add that alot are gay people. This woman stood up for us when no one else would. This woman has supported us, given us fabulous music videos, performances. Has given us her heart. Just because she chooses to look what ever way she wants to. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO PUT A PERSON DOWN. We need to embrace her, support her. Because a person like her doesn't come around that often. I am grateful to live in a world with MADONNA.

Great post and i agree. Just to be clear: I think a fan can criticise and dislike just about anything about an artist. I don't think it's realistic to like everything an artist does, especially one with a career as long as Madonna's. Just seems unnecessary to go after her looks!

It's unfortunate that people in our LGBTQ+ community feel the need to criticize her (or any other woman's) looks, especially as they grow older. It says more about the obsession we have with youth and fear of aging than anything. You're right about her standing up for and speaking loudly about LGBTQ issues, prejudice and rights when very few were doing so. Most of today's younger people don't really know and some likely don't even care about that history. Luckily, it hasn't stopped her from continuing to stand with us and in giving her time, money and voice to help our community, and for that, I'm a very grateful gay fan.

As you said, it's quite shocking to see her own "fans" talking shit about how she looks or criticizing every thing she does... To me it's like treason... She gave us all and more, she still stands up for every minority, she still speaks her mind about subjects that no other popular singers do... I mean, it´s not the fact that you have to love everything she does but at least you could say nothing if you don't like it. I'm a huge Madonna fan from the mid 90's, I didn't live her first decade of success, I fell in love with her because of her constant evolution and she has never dissapointed me. Those ungrateful fans are a cancer, it would be better if they dissapeared.

Yes, those “fans” are just that: ungrateful! They are not able to understand what Madonna has done for us (women, gay, heterosexual, everybody!) She showed how to “challenge the system without living in pain” and she has done it (as she said) with a smile in her face even when everybody judged her and treated her like the worst person in the world, but that only made me understand how important (and crucial) was (and still is) everything that she has done in order to change the world, to make us wake up to fight for what we believe in and to make us be proud of who we are!

this speech is so honest and raw. she's taken so much garbage in her career it's sad to see that at times it has gotten to her. I am sure this speech inspired many of the women there that night. this is what they'll all be facing eventually.

A lot of Madonna fans are not real fans, they are so mean to her. I never understood that. I love Madonna since the beginning, because of what she has to say and still stands for. People want her to look a certain way and make some kind of music, be more 'stylish' less 'vulgar', I mean....she can do whatever she wants. And yes she is a human being, stop the bullying about her age and face! She looks great and she is again pushing some 'age' boundaries, most of us are just not ready. When she is gone people will forget all of that (Look at Michael Jackson & Whitney Houston) and praise her, let's praise her now, while she's alive and support her as much as we can. She deserves it!

Madonna has been such an important part of my life for 40 years now and she still continues to be. I recently had my 50th birthday party at home and showed some of my guests my Madonna room, and to this day, they still have to say negative things to me about her, even when they’re invited to my room to enjoy my collection. It drives me crazy as most of the negativity was from women. So for all of us out there that continue to support our Queen. “Keep the faith” ❤

The uncut version is even more emotional. there is at least 2 more minutes of her speech where she really was overcome with emotions. It's cut off this released version. As she said: "I am my own work of art", she's an artist artist. The only artist I put on a higher pedestal, the only one who'd never left me through my ups and down...The very first time I fall in love with her was from her song "Everybody" of '83, by that early time there were no picture or video yet to have a glimpsed of who she really is, only music. Until MTV came and she's everywhere becoming the biggest discovery of the 20th century, from then on she changed the course of history and our lives. I turned 50 this year, and I can relate to what you say, Johnny, because it’s hard to remember my life without Madonna. I do poke fun at her orange frizzy braids, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love her and that she’s not my queen. It’s because she’s Madonna, and she lives her life in the spotlight, and unfortunately, sometimes it does open her up to criticisms or judgment; sir, I mean, nobody’s perfect, but I don’t mean any harm by it. Great reaction video! At the beginning of the speech when Madonna was telling Anderson Cooper about "having sex with a banana" she was referring to their dance during the Rebel Heart Tour where Anderson as many other celebrities joined her on stage during Unapologetic Bitch.

this woman is incredible, queen of pop, vulnerable at the same time, a human, someone very intelligent! if you knew how much she helped me with her strength, her determination, her desire to succeed, she gave me what I didn't have, I went through all the funniest periods of my life to the saddest with her, with her music that touched me, she is incredible, she has always been criticized and yet this woman is an example by her determination for her charisma for her incredible career. that's not nice to grow old when I see what people say about her now when she moved entire crowds and was adored for decades.This woman is exceptional in so many ways.this woman has defended the cause of gays from the beginning, she has defended minorities, the oppressed all her sensitivity is felt through a large part of her repertoire.thank you for your reaction about her it's always a pleasure to hear you. What Madonna does better than most music artists with a platform, is giving a speech or interview with direct, impactful information that speaks volumes if the audience is willing to listen. Not sure if there's a good video of it out there, but Madonna gave a tribute speech for Michael Jackson at the MTV Awards shortly after he died and I think you'd really like it. Some people criticized that she "compared" herself to him, but she was using those comparisons to make a point about how their lives and trajectories were so different in spite of those similarities. It's a heartfelt, well spoken tribute that had even Michael's family smiling by the end.

As someone else mentioned, I would highly recommend watching the full version. It's available on KZbin. There is more unbridled honesty. I really appreciate 2 points that you made here... 1. all you have to do is listen to M's music to know who she is and what she stands for (unlike Celine whom I LOVE, but her songs are written for her). 2. When you say hateful things about her (or anyone for that matter), you aren't hurting her, you're hurting someone else. In addition, now with AI, by adding negative comments such as ageist comments, we are teaching AI that this is ok. Thank you. I appreciate your reviews.

I've had many conversations with my partner about Madonna (who suggests that Madonna may want to "age gracefully" and act and dress more "age appropriate"). We're fans who have seen her live many times and have all her music, etc., etc., but we still have different ideas about her. What I don't understand is that, no one really says anything about the Rolling Stones, Elton John or Bruce Springsteen touring, performing and dressing like they always have into their 60's and 70's. It's as if Madonna was a schoolmarm or librarian who suddenly decided to start dressing and performing provocatively in her 50's and 60's. She's always been Madonna and yet she's expected to "tone it down" or act more respectable (whatever that means) as she ages. This speech was vulnerable and powerful but it was also a little heartbreaking and eye-opening to realize just how difficult it must have been and continues to be for someone many believe to be completely unfazed and unaffected by the things said and written about them. As I watch more of your videos, I feel that you're likely one of the worthy men Madonna referred to in her speech and to that I say thanks and cheers!

We know of the things she has projected out into the world, and we have created our bias towards those things while still reflecting those nothions in all our own baggage of a lifetime of experience. It is hard for feminists today to not drag men down in those kind of speeches. I'm listening carefully for those "things" but I don't hear anything like that in Madonna's speech. She comes from much worse times, where trully women weren't allowed to speak freely, and of all the important women figures I think of her as one of the most influential, who really paved the way and made a change for other woman. As a "fan/observer" of her I don't like the todays narrative, where men are being dragged down every chance there is a conversation about sex differences and feminism. If she has done something right for women while respecting everybody else, then so should the new generations of feminists.
