Yes the American Life Era showcased her best vocals 100%. I saw her for the first time at the age of 21 at the Re-Invention Tour.. cant believe it's been 20 years! Such great memories

This opening is haunting, cryptic and spiritual-this and gothic MDNA are two of my fave tour openings by Madonna. Nobody Knows Me, Vogue, Into The Groove and Crazy For You are outstanding numbers here. Appreciate your reaction and for covering this tour.

Coincidentally, the Reinvention and MDNA tours are the two Madonna concerts I’ve personally attended, and I couldn’t agree more about their respective opening numbers. Haunting and mystical...sooooo good! 😊

This is easily the best Madonna show since Blond Ambition and in some ways even better than that (vocals). It was so good I ended up seeing it six times - once in the stage pit. Everything is perfectly in balance here. The setlist is pleasing to both hardcore and casual fans, she connects to the audience, vocals on point, the band is great (something sorely missing from Celebration), and most of all her ATTITUDE is happy and warm (also missing from Celebration). And yes Like A Prayer was magnificent in person, Lament was spellbinding. There are just so many moments. Watching the entire arena go crazy was magical. It's by far my favorite Madonna tour experience in three decades of seeing her live. I would love to see the full edit of the Jonas Akerlund Paris show used for I'm Going To Tell You A Secret documentary. The sound mix on that version is far superior.

I've been lucky enough to see Madonna live multiple times. This tour was the most memorable for me because I had seats that were close enough to make eye contact with Madonna. It was surreal and still to this day one of the greatest memories. I'm also someone who loves the song Imagine. Getting to hear Madonna sing it was a treasure.

My favorite tour. I was able to see it front row. Definitely the most intimate one of her tours and I’ve been to all of them. Thanks for your reactions ❤ too bad so much was cut from your video

@@t.c.russell4237 She likely enjoyed the promo acoustic mini-concert tour she performed in London, Paris, and NYC for American Life album in small intimate venues before small audiences. Her rapport with her euphoric fans during these were fascinating, warm and witty.

Not sure if you saw the documentary that went along with this tour called “I’m Gonna Tell you a Secret”. It’s pretty revealing this is when she was married to Guy Richie and was an great adult sequal to her “Truth of Dare” Doc.

Saw this tour four times (the four Paris' dates) and it is my best memories of a Madonna concert (even though the Confessions tour is close to it) ! I almost went to this last concert in Lisbon, but didn't have the guts at the last moment. Saw it two times on a seated place and two times almost front row in the pit. What an experience !! I especially love the entrance, Nobody knows me (everyone was doing it on the moving walkways in Paris after that !), American life (total madness when the platform went down and Madonna went on it) and Express yourself (killer choreography), Mother and father (probably the best vocals she ever did on her tours), Into the groove (The bagpipes were absolutely awesome !! At first, everyone was like "WTF !" and when the rythmics started, the audience went wild) and Holiday finale which was phenomenal on the platform with all the confettis ! Everybody was screaming and jumping, it was really epic ! I considered it to be the best Madonna tour I ever attended to.

Still my favourite tour for many reasons. The beast within intro with Steven Klein visuals blew my mind and there were so many fun moments. Plus I happened to be right at the tip of the catwalk on the floors and it was so thrilling to have her leaning over us singing. I swear she checked out the Keith Haring shirt I was wearing. How can that be 20 years ago?
@joegotham273 ай бұрын
Not sure if you're aware but something crazy - The Beast Within started out as just one of the remixes of Justify My Love - (officially Justify My Love (The Beast Within Remix) but it became such a fan favorite it just evolved into its own thing - unprecedented and unrepeated

Yes you’re right the experience somewhat outshines the video here in this one. I was totally amazed by the show especially material girl as we were swept up in what turned out to be a mosh pit with the audience really going for it. The bag piper was the guy they hired for her wedding in Scotland who agreed to go on tour. Gotta love him and her for that fact lol

The strangest tour in terms of travelling with her. In New York the biggest cheers were for Burning up, in the UK it was Like a Prayer, in France it was Mother & Father and in Lisbon at these shows it was American Life. 🤷🏼♂️

Saw this show twice, once in Earls Court and again at Slate Castle. Definitely an indoor arena show. Like A Prayer was an absolute highlight when there in person. Vocals are on fire throughout

This is my favourite tour of hers, I am an American Life stan and she did not disappoint with this one. The closest we got (back then) to a greatest hits tour and this was brilliant on her part because of all the backlash American Life got, people were hungry and she fed them. I was too young and living in my home country so I only got to experience this on here and her I am Going To Tell You A secret documentary :( That beign said, I saw her on The Celebration Tour in London last year and beign there to witness The Beast Within was a spiritual experience, I was in tears. This whole era is perfect in my eyes
@EAB823 ай бұрын
Forgot to mention that this was actually pegged as a Greatest Hits Tour as American Life didnt do very well (compared to her previous outputs) but she managed to get more than a handful of American Life tracks included.

Madonna had always been notoriously accused of constantly reinventing herself, her image, and that was wrongly attributed to her success, rather than her own talent, by magazine articles throughout different eras of her career (when magazines were still popular, and she consistently graced many of the glamorous magazine covers, like a Marilyn Monroe.) The cheeky naming of this tour might have had everything to do with owning it, just as the Blond Ambition Tour, imo, was named by her after a Vanity Fair cover article which I bought and owned that adeptly referred to her as "taking her rightful place in the succession of blond ambition," evoking Marilyn Monroe and before her Jean Harlow, Mae West, or a Judy Holiday...

The scorpion pose and back walking for vogue was a nod to her yoga practices. Cannot imagine she had it perfect for every show! The background video was for MAC makeup when she was the spokesperson. Yes I concur Holiday was the best version!! Still listening to it today.

She actually only did the scorpion pose on the very first show in L.A.. On the other shows, she did a normal handstand (still risky, though, considering the elevated platform she was on).

@@vinicioberbat4404 hmmm maybe I got the pose name wrong? She did the same one in every show. Headstand with her own version of scorpion legs pose. 😅

One of my favourite performances of Vogue. Great entrance. Love The Beast Within and the Bedtime Story remix. But I still think her vocals were better on the Drowned World tour (though Deeper and Deeper and Lament are AMAZING here). And this stage seems kinda small. Much prefer the stage on her next tour, The Confessions tour (which is a fan favourite, and a favourite of mine too). By the way, despite being called the Reinvention tour, this was not a greatest hits tour. It had many hits because the Drowned World tour almost didn’t have any and the American Life album was a comercial failure for Madonna standards, but this was actually the tour that supported the American Life album. Still, a great tour with a great final act too (love Into the Groove, Papa don’t Preach and Crazy for You as well). Great and insightful reaction of yours!

I was there. Vogue isn't a live vocal, it was never was, but from Frozen onwards it is. I don't know why she did that because I could hear it straight away. It was out of sync too (I was about 20 feet away). Before people start screaming, it has nothing to do with the album versions. Once Madonna decides the set list and the transitions and interludes, they put together the show, rehearse and record the vocals (in this case in an aircraft hanger because it was covered arena tour) and what you hear every night is a blend of her mic vocal and the recorded track vocal, often with one more prominent than the other. Here, Vogue is almost all the pre-recorded vocal.

By Madonna's standards, this is a somewhat of a low-key, stripped-back concert. It lacked the production we've come to expect from her, but this made it more intimate. Surprisingly, it features some of her best video backdrops from any of her tours. Certainly some of her best work with Steven Klein. Deeper and Deeper is one of my all time favourite reinventions. I wish she would experiment with jazz in her work more because her voice is well-suited to the style. It's unfortunate this was not professionally released. Especially since Jonas Åkerlund's shot pretty much all of the show, primarily from her Paris shows, but enough to have create a comprehensive presentation. I'd love to hear the whole show professionally mixed and edited. Do you plan on reacting to the I'm Going To Tell You A Secret documentary, which covers the behind the scenes of this tour?
@clevm0023 ай бұрын
It's ironic - she always hated being termed the 'queen of reinvention' so she did this tour to be ironic
