This album and era would still be ahead of It's time If It were released today. If there Is ever any doubt that Madonna Is the greatest woman music artist of all time, just listen to Like a Prayer (1989), I'm Breathless (1990), Erotica (1992), Ray of Light (1998), and Confessions On a Dancefloor (2005), and do a deep dive Into those eras, as well as the mythos and Iconography that surround them. No other woman comes close to her full breadth of artistry. Her most formidable contemporaries, Prince and Michael Jackson (both of whom I worship), ran out of creative steam and artistic relevancy after the 80s, whereas Madonna was just getting started. Putting aside her public persona and all of her shenanigans, she Is truly a treasure. Madonna Is a poet, creative visionary, a brilliant vocalist, masterful songwriter, artistic genius, the last of the originals and the most pioneering female entertainer and auteur of all time. I wasn't that much into Erotica as the songs didn't resonated with me but after listening to the album in more detail I have learned to appreciate it and I play it non-stop almost everyday. When I was 15 years old I bought the album "Erotica" with my savings. And the first times I listened to it, I didn't really understand the meaning of some songs. Already as an adult I realize that Madonna always told us about topics that were forbidden and that today there is a lot of information about them. "Bad Girl" tells of a woman involved in a toxic relationship who seeks to distract herself from her reality through debauchery and self-destructive behavior. There is no doubt that Madonna has always been ahead of time.

The video shows no evidence she has “A” man, that she was in a toxic relationship. This is a cautionary tale. This is about a woman who is single, self-centered, and sexually promiscuous. A workaholic whose lifestyle makes her miserable (hence why she drinks so much). All these things were said about Madonna at the time: she was a man eater, she slept with every man, she was a workaholic, she would end up tragically (just like Louise Ciccone in the video). She gave the world a version of what the press insinuated about her and how they looked for her to end tragically.

I'm just gonna say it. This is my favorite Madonna video and song! It really is. This song is so underrated and the music video is a masterpiece! There are so many details in the background. The Gleave & Co. pocket watch held by Christopher Walken to the masterful walk up apartment that would easily fetch $3M in today's market. This is an early 90's song (MLC wrote) from her 5th studio album, Erotica. The album came out the same time as her coffee table book, Sex. ( 'member that?! 😳) Bad Girl did not make it into the Top 20. Which is probably why this song was overlooked on radio. The music video came out when music videos were treated like little mini movies for the artist to play any character they wanted. Keep in mind critics constantly panned Madonna on her acting skills. Ms. Louise Ciccone (the name on her office door) delivered! She also acted just like a successful single business man would act in the 80s/90s, but she's considered a "bad girl" for her promiscuous ways. #ThisMusicVideoIsEverything

Interesting fact: Michael Massee, the actor who plays the waiter that she sleeps with. He is in the movie Se7en also directed by Fincher. He plays the manager of the sex club that the horrible contraption is used to kill the prostitute. He also was the actor who shot Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow. In I think 1994. He was not aware there was a live round in the chamber. So no charges were brought against him. I can’t imagine the guilt that he lived with. He died of cancer at the age of 64.

_Erotica_ definitely is one of her best albums as it contains some of her best songs ever: _Thief of Hearts, Words, Whys It So Hard, Bad Girl, Secret Garden, Waiting_ . The album was underrared because it was decades ahead of its time, people were definitely distracted by the provocative aspect of Madonna's art at the time and were busy passing judgment. Little did they know that Madonna would open the doors with that album for every artist (predecessor and newcomer). After Madonna it was easy for every female artist to get away with this kind of videos and imagery, she made it first and better than anyone else.

This video is so magnificent. Probably the best video Fincher has ever done. Combine with this amazing song this is a masterpiece that deserved HD a long time ago. Every detail in the video is well thought out, so telling, it sends chills down my spine still. Walken is giving the oscar worthy performance, without telling a single word. Good old times, 90's when such cinematic marbles have been made, you can't see anything even close nowadays. I can only imagine the budget for this one. Even though everyone at that time was giving her a hard time, she just pushed this record and released marble after marble. After 30 years #Erotica30 we can finally appreciate the ground-breaking art she was doing at that time. Thanks, Madonna, Warners, David.....
