Thank you for uploading this! I have now watched this bout far too much. I might as well try to summarize my findings. Hopefully there is a decent recap of what happened below: (For posterity (please correct me if you were there and/or I'm wrong)). 0-0 Mohamed uses a review, call is upheld 1-0 Eli uses a review, call is upheld 3-2 Eli uses a review, call is upheld 11-8 Mohamed uses a review, call is upheld 5-4 and 7-5 could have been screen-caps from 0-0, (to my, very inexperienced, eye) but both touches go to Mohamed, and Eli spends some time yelling at the *review* ref at the break. At 12-9 Eli has already used two reviews. Min (the ref) flubbed it. Eli yells at him. Min cards him, then goes back and does the review anyway. This is, in the lingo, a bad time. Everyone (who has a dog in it) is bent out of shape. Eli was carded and told by *everyone* to just shut up and deal with the refing. Mohamed feels that he should have *also* gotten a third review. And the referees were saying a universal "sit down and be quiet" to all of the coaches and additional refs. Further questions (probably unanswerable): Watching in the background to (George Dragomir ROU v Ziad Elsissy EGY) I can just barely hear (at 7-6) Eli asking the review referee "How many ___ did he see?" maybe? I'm not at all sure. I unfortunately can't find the review ref's name on either Engarde or FIE. Was the review ref saying stuff to Mohamed? Is Eli just out to sea and yelling for no good reason? Is there some better third hypothesis? Also, generic point. If you are a ref, under no condition should you try to touch a fencer or coach to try and coax them around or to calm down. If I were teaching a course in how to escalate the situation unnecessarily (note, I'm not qualified to teach such a course, this is just my gut feeling), I might say: "Behave like a ref who ignores the question, only repeats the last instruction, and then puts a hand the the shoulder of whoever is involved to infantilize them". If someone says "Why did this thing happen?" and you can't answer them, tell them: "Sorry, I can't answer that". Losing a touch or a bout because of a bad ref is the most frustrating thing that can happen, especially this close to the Olympics. The reffing was atrocious, I think that anger is justified, but Mohammed should have gotten a third video.
