I partly blame the reporter in how he framed the question but that clip also done the reporter dirty, the full context is that he further clarified that a South Korean film Parasite is eligible for the Oscars because it has a diverse cast of 100% Koreans but a movie based in a Nordic country in the 1750's wouldn't be eligible for the same Oscars because it's not diverse even though they both have the exact same amount of diversity. The reporter wanted to highlight the hypocrisy of Hollywood. Edit: Spelling and Grammar, Parasyte is a worthwhile anime :p

It's the only normal reaction to the woke clowns -- to ridicule them. To laugh at them. To dismiss them. That's how it was back in good days -- if black asked to be in a LOTR movie (or any fantasy movie, really), he'd just be laughed at. If lgbt asked to be equally represented in some mainstream movie -- they'd be laughed at and told something like "sorry, all mentally ill roles are taken". For the people accusing the reporter as being a woke activist, pump your breaks there. Yes, at first when seeing the video my blood was already about to boil because we've all seen this song and dance before BUT unfortunately this clip is cut short which removes more context. If you kept hearing, what he is saying it's just pointing out the hypocrisy from SAG and other film and arts bodies that have put out rules about diversity and quotas that movies must meet in order to either get funding from big studios or to be nominated for awards for example the Oscars, Emmys etc. The journalist was just poking fun at how for example movies like South Korean's Parasite is considered a diverse movie even though it's 100% Koreans (Same with Black Panther, The Woman King, Crazy Rich Asians, yadda yadda) yet Anglo or Nordic majority movies are not "diversity" and it equals wrong/bad. Fortunately, Independent film making does not have to play along with such rules to get made. Which is why the current strike in Hollywood is a blessing for all independent types to get out there and do your shit, from podcasting to youtube pop culture reviews, making your own comics etc, now it's the time to strike while these elite whiners are bitching sitting on their asses and studios cancelling projects and running out of monies. The difference between the strikes now and the one in 2008 is that people actually gave a shit about programs being made 15 years ago. Current Hollywood writing is aidz and most everybody has tuned out.

Go watch the full question this one is edited on purpose to make you think the reporter is woke when he actually isn't. The full question was the reporter talking about how a movie like Parasite with a 100% Korean cast is considered diverse enough but Mads movie with a 100 % Danish /Caucasian cast which is the same percentage of diversity which is none for both movies, isn't considered diverse enough to be recognized by the Oscars new rules (which state that movies to be considered for Oscars need to have like 30%of diversity /lgbt). And the reporter was asking Mads if he was worried about that, about the possibility of the movie not being considered good enough for Oscars. It's honestly a fair question and not woke

If someone wants to make a movie, or indeed any kind of creative endeavor, it’s perfectly okay if they want diversity to be a priority. However, to think that everyone else should adhere to those standards, particularly to the detriment to the authenticity and accuracy, historical or otherwise, is complete asinine. I would imagine, making a movie set in Denmark in the 18th century, they are neither for or against diversity; it simply isn’t a consideration, and it shouldn’t have to be.

History and reality are the way they are. There are a ton of ways to deal with past adversity, as there is a lot of diversity in the history books, but the stories are shaped around isolation, living underground, being stomped on, etc. So if the story isn't centered around those things, a lot of the reality of history is going to be pretty oppressive and favor a kind of strict expectation of cultural norms. If you don't like it, go read a fantasy novel or a sci fi film that isn't based in reality. Historical fiction is about capturing the harsh truths, and this can be done well, and has been by many writers/film makers if you can look past your preconveived notions of social justice that are blinding you to the true power of storytelling to show us new ways of looking at reality.
