@@theDiReW0lfimo above was matured version of grunge and i don't mean immature in the bad way. It's just that the unique, honest, natural qualities of grunge were present in this band in such a professional manner. best elements of those bands combined with layne's voice. you don't even have to like grunge to love this band and they made it without getting out of their genre.

Born & raised in SeaTown, I was fortunate to see everyone from Mother Love Bone, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mud Honey, SuperSuckers, Melvins, Screaming Trees, Candlebox, Temple of the Dog, Alice in Chains in the late 80's thru mid 90's and this show, Mad Seasons, standing just left of center balcony level. watching many different band members from different bands descend down into their own abyss and prisons, weakening physically, emotionally, and vocally, but this was a very special night and show whereas a mutual appreciation between band and audience grew as the night progressed, and you could see a light on in Layne that i hadn't seen in some earlier AIC shows. It was truly a magically time to be alive, and to witness one of Rock's all time greats taken too soon from us. Enjoy and if you are suffering and dealing with addiction or mental health, talk to someone, be proactive and know there is hope and a better way to live!

Amazing you were there and experienced that wonderful era. Unfortunately I was born in '93. I don't really feel connected to these times in almost every way. Through music like this I try to live those days a bit in my own way. I wish I had lived those days as a mid-20'er. Layne intrigues me so much. Also Chris Cornell, Andy wood and Eddie Vedder to name a few, but none like Layne. I truly wish I could've met him. Those were the days in my opinion, small smoke filled venues, no telephones, far more pure and connected. Also Candlebox rules by the way, Really awesome you've seen so many of them. The downfall of many of them as you said, is a part of what intrigues me as well. It has something pure, real an mystique about it. Those guys were the real deal and felt life in a heavy, real way. Once again, awesome to hear your story! cheers!
@dgranite504 жыл бұрын
@@ryano460 thanks for commenting , just go out and see as much as you can in the present because these might be those kind of days for you in the future. None of us knew to what level things would elevate to for these once small Seattle bar bands. There's currently a huge opioid epidemic along with other drugs but even back in the late 80s and into the 90s heroin was very prevalent in Seattle so combine the instant rockstar persona, big bank accounts and endless drugs/alcohol it was a recipe for disaster. Being a small, big city it wasn't strange to kick it and get high with some of these guys. back in the day including Layne.

At times, it seems as though 'Mad Season' was Layne's grand escape from AIC since Layne really shined as an individual in Mad Season and seem to have the most fun. What made Mad Season 'gold' for me was that Staley, McCready, Saunders, and Martin all showcased their talents and shined individually as a band. kitty Laflamme as a guitarist and people who appreciate guitarists he’s not under rated. But In the main stream when people talk about guitarists he isn’t a name you hear. He’s at the top of the list for me. His Hendrix inspired riffs and sound is amazing. What I was getting at is because he is in an early 90’s grunge band he is often overlooked for his technicality and what not. I love his style and just wish it was more appreciated. Alice In Chains is my favorite band ever (besides Black Sabbath) but for some reason, I always had a feeling Layne was happier with Mad Season. I know it was short lived but it seemed like a fun jam session with mad season, and not so much a job
@smkxodnwbwkdns83692 жыл бұрын
Part of the reason he was happier was because it was short lived. It was a novel experience singing with other people and finding success performing live and releasing an album while Alice claimed they couldn’t tour cause of his addiction. It was partly done out of spite I think.

Yeah, its probably a lot more fun when you're just creating and doing what you love with your friends. Esp when there's no pressure from the executives and fanbase like there is with a huge successful band like Alice In Chains. I'm sure Layne had the same feeling with AIC before they got big.. creating with your bandmates.. dirt poor but doing it because you genuinely love to create music. Crazy how when bands do get successful, that's what inevitably drives the life out of the band and destroys the band. Success, pressure, money, and drug abuse.

Yes, Mike McCready's father, Roy McCready, was nicknamed "November Hotel" during his service in the Vietnam War. The nickname comes from the NATO phonetic alphabet, where "November" stands for the letter N and "Hotel" stands for the letter H, corresponding to his initials (N.H. McCready). This nickname and its personal significance to Mike McCready likely influenced the title of the instrumental track "November Hotel" by Mad Season on their album Above.

As a teen in the 90's, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to appreciate many more newer musicians. I mean seriously, what could future generations have to offer that could be better than the infamous list that made it to the legendary "HEADBANGERS BALL".
@mirawondafication57312 жыл бұрын
well as much I agree, the 90s were an exeptional era, there are so many unknown but gifted bands around the world right now. Just dive into bandcamp and dig. Here is one of my fav little gems kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHawgGSEa6d6mM0 (edit: they also have melodies sometimes ;-) )

This almost feels like a modern version of The Doors. The lead singer is clearly a drug addict, but can still perform. The rest of the band is just trying to figure out how to keep the wheels on. One of my favorite bands going into high school and wish Layne had found the light, so all we have is this incredible music to remember him.

this is absolutely perfect. McCreedy is super underrated. Fantastic stuff

think about it. this dude was in mad season, temple of the dog AND pearl jam, which is kinda sorta a successor to green river and mother love bone. So I think that sort of makes Mike McCready like... the absolute king of Seattle rock (or grunge if you must).
@DaveTaste3 жыл бұрын
He's not underrated for fucks sake. I really wish people would stop writing this shit on every youtube video of every artist. As the comment above says, he was in Temple of the dog, PJ and Mad Season. 3 successful bands.
@ethanbradley20893 жыл бұрын
@@LukeVisinoni he wasn't in MLB that was Gossard and Ament. Bruce Fairweather was the lead guitarist.
@ethanbradley20893 жыл бұрын
@@DaveTaste he means in the list of all time, douche. Mike unfortunately has really only gotten to exemplify his talents live for the last 20 years. Because of the type of music PJ make since No Code. He doesn't get to experiment in the studio like he does live. And since the casual listener isn't searching out live sets he goes unlooked as a all time great. He's the best the generation has to offer. But he won't ever get the credit for it because all eyes are on Vedder.
@JBD09093 жыл бұрын
@@DaveTaste not that many people acknowledge McCready's presence. Very rarely do we hear about it on most things. That's what they mean.
@deborahcooney93265 жыл бұрын
Layne was trying his hand at the guitar. Imagine what this band would be like if? Only if. McCready is just playing that guitar like his life depended on it. Wow screaming
@laurawatters9142 жыл бұрын
You can tell Layne is enjoying himself, just letting loose!! Totally awesome performance by everyone Mike, Layne, Barrett and John Baker Saunders and Sherik I think is his name. AMAZING I Love Mad Season. 😊💓🤘✌️RIP Layne and John Baker Saunders 😇💝🌹
