This reminds me of the tribute they did for Charlie Chaplin before he died. He was given an honorary Academy Award in 1972 by Jack Lemmon. And in the end, Charlie cried!!! Mel Brooks gave us sooo much of his talent and gave so many laughter for generations to come. And right as Matthew Broderick started to sing, Mel started to cry, because he can remember every single word he wrote of his songs. And I bet Mel was thinking in the back of his head all the people whom had passed on he worked with, Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, all the people who brought his characters to life!!! I think that's what made him cry the most. :)

I'm going to sob when he passes. I'm 41, so my entire childhood was filled with his movies. We'd watch them repeatedly. I only had a handful of celebrities that i wanted to meet growing up. Absolutely the best tribute for a really great writer/actor/producer/director. His heartfelt reaction to his own stuff was so lovely. . A truly great man of the movies... But Blazing Saddles shoulda been more upfront. THAT movie enlightened so many people. It put racism right in it's place. LAUGH it off, but recognise that those who you are racist against, will quite rightly laugh you off.. As mentioned earlier/later, It's better you see and be told how great you are and how many people have been made to laugh, cringe, cower, giggle ...... and learn. Comedy expects boundaries to be crossed. Race , colour, creed et al, mean nothing. A good belly laugh is the best remedy ever... EVER... Crack on Mel...

I spent a few days in the hospital when I was16 in 1987. Some friends of mine came to visit and said, we're taking you to see Space Balls when you get out. Laughter is the best medicine especially coming from Mel.

I whole heartedly agree. It's a damn shame that people get so easily offended these days that it's probably impossible to make a movie on par with what he has made in the past and that's a damn shame for filmmaking in general.

Comedy is and will always be subjective, but there’s that one person in a million that manages to make everyone laugh in such a heartwarming spectacle that it’s impossible not to feel as though every single person on the planet is connected through a shared funny bone. Thank you Mel Brooks and thank god you’re still around! By the way, it was you who made me not like being a gentile. I wanted to convert to Judaism at the age of 8 and my mother thought I was crazy.

Not the first time to watch this and likely will watch many more times just like so may of Mel's movies. To see Mel smile and enjoy the time during the performance is so wonderful to watch just like the performance is a joy to see. Thanks Mel for capturing a needed and wonderful look at life. You spare no one and do it with such skill.
