A goal is “what” you want to accomplish, an objective is “how” to accomplish it. Nice content…thank you.

Thank you for this video. As a grad student who was literally struggling JUST LAST NIGHT with coming up with treatment goals I thank you! Your points on over complicating things was so on point. Your example with Wesley also showed me that though the goal may sound general, it will reach to all the areas in his life where he’s having issues! I feel like I can support my goals now! ❤

Thank you for simplifying the process!! If this is helpful to anyone else, I use a quote from the client in the treatment goal section of the treatment plan: ie "deal with my stress". It is an honest/realistic way for us to tie the client's reason for therapy to the specific objectives. It also elimiates redundancy and appeases insurance's desire for client quotes!

This is exactly what I needed and so appreciate you putting this video out. I’m one of those clinicians who tends to over complicate goals, & I love that I now have a far easier way to do it that will still meet insurance requirements. My head always tells me in order to meet insurance requirements, I need more detail, not less. This inevitably leads to writing way too much and feeling chronically overwhelmed & being behind with my documentation. This strategy will help tremendously. Thank you!!

I joined Crash Course several years ago, which has been SO helpful to create a GIRP template (with check boxes; and /or copy & paste) that works for me. I’m back for tx plan simplification. I LOVE 2 goals … and the “crickets are fantastic!!! “Objectives” have always driven me absolutely mad. I use a (cut /paste) version of client participation in the “Plan” section of my notes (thank you). I’ll be adding it to the tx plan (thank you, again) Your SMART goals are so streamlined 😊 Thank you Maelissa for these Amazing resources!

This might be a weird request, but can you do a video that contains a HYPNOSIS exercise that we can listen to that makes us want to do our notes? Or removes the mental block we feel when thinking about approaching that huge backlog of notes I have to get done? It doesn’t matter if it’s you leading or reading the hypnotic script, or if you basically rip it off someone else’s channel. It would be SO appreciated! Thank you!

I appreciate this video and I have implemented this simple and effective method of creating treatment plans for my part-time private practice work. Unfortunately, in my full-time work at a mega-corporation owned behavioral health center, they recently implemented a training on treatment plans wherein it was explicitly stated "Goals which focus on triggers and coping skills are overused and should be avoided."🙄

I have always enjoyed your videos and your content. Overall, I love the way you address treatment plans. I do disagree with the objectives-I think objectives are the steps to achieve the goal; and in many settings, goals and objective's are required whether they mean the same thing, most settings do not think so
@MaelisaMcCaffrey
@MaelisaMcCaffrey 2 жыл бұрын
Typically when they are both used, it's more in the context of "long-term" and "short-term" goals. And if anyone is working for an agency that requires both, they obviously have to follow those guidelines. I've actually never worked in any type of setting that required both, although I know it does exist. It is not usually a Medicare/Medicaid or other insurance requirement, and I think adding multiple steps adds too much complexity that is usually unnecessary. We want treatment plans that our clients can easily understand and that we can easily track. However, as with all of my advice, if it works for you then keep doing what works!

@@MaelisaMcCaffrey Thank you for the response. Long Term/Short term goals make's sense in terms of objectives. I know our EHR -Theranest has the treatment plans set up with Goals and Objectives too. I like the idea of what you shared -it's so much simpler than trying to come up with 3-5 objectives etc. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Are you talking about long term treatment goals or short term ones?
@MaelisaMcCaffrey
@MaelisaMcCaffrey 5 ай бұрын
@@geevee4130 same thing. I’m saying that for most private practice settings you only need a couple basic goals. Medicare and Medicaid often does like to see a long term goal that is a direct quote from the client but as far as the SMART goals a clinician has to write, keep it to these 2-3. Total.

I learned during my internship that increasing communication skills isn't an authorized goal for insurance companies to reimburse for. But you wouldn't have used it as an example if it was something that was regularly denied. Can you please clarify?
@MaelisaMcCaffrey
@MaelisaMcCaffrey Жыл бұрын
Insurance companies don't have specific goals they authorize or don't authorize. It has more to do with whether or not the goal is 1) related to the diagnosis and 2) related to the impairment as a result of the diagnosis. For example, that would be a very relevant goal for someone with social anxiety who has trouble communicating with others and it is negatively impacting them at school or work.
