Thanks for the content maffs guru, I think I got around 90% on this exam which I’m happy with considering it was harder than the multi choice and I only got 80 on that. This is probably the end of the road for me watching your great maths videos but of course I will stay subbed 😉 and let more people know about your channel. 13C There is an algorithm and it makes it a lot easier. You simply note all the odd vertices. Then, if she is to travel all roads it is Eulerian and if she starts and ends at different vertices then it means you need 2 odd vertices. So as there are 6 odd vertices, you need to link 2 pairs and make them even. start at G, which isolates H as an odd vertex. So it must be L and N, M and J that you need to travel twice. Hence make them even vertices when you travel them twice.

For question 3a how strict are they with accuracy? You got 0.1164 and rounded to 0.12. It says at the start of the paper not to round unless instructed.....should you actually plot closer to 0.1164 (ie. just below the 0.12 line)?

You ask an interesting question! Looking at the question again, I would probably draw is slightly above the 0.115 line rather than at the 0.12. To be honest through, VCAA will give a range of accuracy accepted and I'm pretty sure they would have permitted anything between 0.115 and 0.12.

6 vertices have odd degree (G,H,N,L,M,J). Since it starts at G and ends somewhere else we can assume it can end at H. By laws of Eulerian trails, we can say that 2 extra edges are required between N,L and M,J so they are the two edges that will be passed over twice.

Hey about question 11 how sure are you that writing -9 is crucial because it doesn’t say In the question if Sn should have the total number of workers represented in value S21. Like what is the reasoning for getting rid of that info might as well write a matrix B that creates an Sn+1 that includes the total left because the question doesn’t say what it wants the bottom value to represent
@MaffsGuru
@MaffsGuru 11 ай бұрын
Hi :) I am not sure it's crucial but I can't see how they will be able to deduct marks for it. In reading the question again, I can see how they might interpret it to mean the number of workers made 180 but I didn't read it this way. And, even if you do, the bottom value can certain be -9. Fingers crossed VCAA pay out the mark for both answers.

For question 3C asking for strength, direction and form if you take out (5, 0.183) the form is clearly non-linear. I don't think that the form should be noted as linear just because a least squares line has been fitted to the scatterplot. The data set used for this question would have been much more fitted for purpose as a data transforming question to linearise the relationship. I hope students don't lose marks if they noted the from as non-linear.
@MaffsGuru
@MaffsGuru Жыл бұрын
I think this is going to be one of those questions which is debated for weeks and years. I know we can spend hours quoting things, but the Cambridge book states the following: "The assumptions for fitting a least squares line to data are the same as for using the correlation coefficient, 𝑟 These are that: * the data is numerical * the association is linear * there are no clear outliers." As there is a least squares line, it would assume the above is true. I don't see how we can take out the point (5, 0.183) as there is nothing to say it's an outlier. Ultimately it will be down to VCAA to decide. But, we will never know what they accept. I worry about students who have "entered the data" as there was no data outside of that on the scatterplot. If they wanted a residual plot surely they would have given the raw data.

I think the Paper 1 felt a lot easier than I have experienced before. There were some interesting questions, but on the whole I think it was totally manageable. Paper 2 felt a lot longer and some of the questions were very time consuming. The content had some interesting tricks in it, but again, seemed to cover the main areas of study. I think to consensus out there was that the exam was harder than others.

But it isn't. The intercept of any graph is when it crosses the point on the vertical axis which passes through 0. VCAA use this as a common trick every year. Im really really disappointed at the amount of mistakes ive done. Ive lost so so so much marks. I actually give up now. I cant even be bothered with the rest of the exams ...given the amount of mistakes i do. Also why is it that people that may have adhd or take medication for it sit close to the vcaa observers...they walk around which distracts (i see them in the corner of my eye...one sat beside me...literally on the platform next to me) and its especially difficult to turn ur head to face the clock everytime. Also the desks are so small the bound reference book kept falling off the edge. Ive really had a stinker. My heart hurts and i just cant anymore. i also hate the time pressure ... I feel like... sometimes they really dont care about whether you actually understand the content or just are rushing, and copying notes and guessing and that. Seriously. Sorry i babled. I wish the education system could just ask students what they could do better. They really dont understand how we work...its all memory and repetition. Just learning to pass...not to live. I feel like my dreams are daydreams. I feel like even if there are other pathways...i wont do it anymore because im not confident...and it cost money. Taking a test cost money. Huff idk anymore. You must NEVER ever give up on your dreams. School is just a stupid stepping stone to the next thing in your life. Not doing as well as you would like is soul destroying. I know this as I was terrible in school. I hated Maths. I couldn't do it. I used to sit in the classroom with no idea what I was doing. If I can lift myself up and turn myself around, you can too. You have amazing value. You have so much to give. You've had a set back. This should not prevent you from going on and doing amazing things. The education system here is stupid. Full. Stop. It feels like it's stacked against you all the way. SACs,, the competition, not knowing what grade and study score you might be able to get etc. Sitting in a hall with people walking up and down, small desks ... these are all things which are not ideal. Who knows, one day, as a result of your experience, you might be the person to MAKE THE CHANGES to education it needs for all students. Please, do not give up. It's OK to feel upset and disappointed. You have worked bloody hard all year and it hurts when that doesn't seem to get rewarded. Take a small amount of time to be upset. But then you MUST, MUST, MUST put it behind you and keep going. The rest of your exams might surprise you and you might do amazingly well. Then General becomes irrelavant. Wishing you all the best for the rest of the season. Go out there and be the best success you can.

Hi there, Thanks for your answers, I can't believe I didn't pick up on "large oysters" rather than all oysters for Q1bii... EDIT: it seems like others have already talked about Q11b and Q13c, so feel free to ignore those points...I'll leave them here in case someone doesn't dig through the other comments to find these ideas. For Q11b I think that the element b21 could in theory be anything? The question just states that the number of works (not total people) to remain at 180. For that to occur, only b11 must be 9, as the other value just changes the number of leavers. Some potential ambiguity here from VCAA. For Q13b, there is an alogirthm that solves this, however it is a modified version of Dijkstra's Algorithm that is not part of the study design (and I've only seen how to program it and not undertake it by hand/CAS). My 'method' was creating the minimum spanning tree and then using that as a starting point for guessing and checking alternatives (given that in some cases edges that were not on the tree were shorter as they didn't require backtracking), but I can't say it was the 'best' way. For Q13c I got the same answer but know a method to prove it. My rationale was that it must be an Eulerian trail (different start/finish, follows every road). Eulerian trails require all vertexes to have an even degree except for two with an odd degree. G, H, J, L, M, and N all have an odd degree. The process of travelling along a ride twice is equivalent to adding an edge, so we can travel along a road twice connects these vertex to, in essence, change their degree from odd to even. The possible options are G - H, G - N, J - M, and L - N. However, any combination with G can be excluded, as it is the starting point it will always have an odd degree, so J - M and L - N are the only possible options remaining. Thanks again for your walkthrough!

Also with the 9, -9 matrice i think its just 9, 0 as the number of ppl who've left stays the same

And question 2b ii) the question tells u to quote 2 STATISTICS, unlike the 4 u have quoted

I said in the video that I wasn't over convinced about the wording. I over quoted but, so long as my additions are correct, VCAA will mark them correct.

I know about the 16.5km. I got so used to that style of question wanting the length, I didn't read the question properly. I'll update the video tomorrow with the correct answer. The matrix one, I read it to mean that the number of people who are working there must remain at 180. If you don't take the 9 away, you will end up with S1 totalling 189. But I could be wrong.

hey maffsguru i saw an article on the herald sun about a third possible error in question 7c bcos we cant get the loan to exactly zero without changing the value of the last payment- do u think vcaa will just take the answer to the nearest cent like u gave?? or give everyone a mark for that question
@MaffsGuru
@MaffsGuru 11 ай бұрын
I don’t think it was an error. I think that rounding always wins out. So I think my answer is correct. I don’t know what VCAA will do but hopefully they look at the question and make the right decision. Normally they would say in the question that the final payment would be different. Even without this, you would have rounded normally. But again, who knows.

Hey maths guru for that permutation matrix error will they give us the mark bc of the error or what like how does it work??

Like in the past what did they do when something like this happened??
@MaffsGuru

I don’t think so. The question could still be answered and I don’t think it fundamentally changed your ability to answer it as the 1 wasn’t in any of the columns which you needed to complete. I doubt that most people even knew there was an error.

hey maff guru, for question 3c is it linear or non-linear cause when I try to construct the residual plot, there is clearly a pattern but you said that if the question asking for strength it must be linear but I came across question that they are asking for strength/r/r^2 but the correlation is non-linear
@charlottea4199

I said non-linear too!!
@MaffsGuru
@MaffsGuru Жыл бұрын
Hi both. As they gave you the equation of the least-squares line, this can only be created if the data is linear. The fact that gave r^2 too, which means there is an 'r' means this was linear. I know some people are saying that they have tried to create the residual plot, but there was no need and it didn't help. I think people have over complicated this question. I am so sorry.

why did your answer for 1cii change from 9.53 to 7.8 at 7:33
@MaffsGuru

Ignore the 7.8. I redid the answer to c and I wasn’t going to redo the rest of the questions again as I was time pressured. The correct answer is 9.53.

I've just got a question about the final matrix question, as each circus needs 180 employees, and once they leave they leave would 9 in b11 and 0 in b21 also technically be correct as it doesn't affect the amount of employees staying

@@MaffsGuru i thought 9, -9 initially as well but then it would negate the entire equation, and since L represented the amount of employees leaving, that would continue to tally
