I love the video , I initially ignored Mafia 3 and then I gave it a chance and it didn't disappoint . Love everything about the game besides the mission structure , all the good things about the game hooked me so much that i didn't care about the repetitive missions . The racism was real, 2k hanger did a good job not trying to hide it especially since the game takes place in the deep south. They didnt shy from it so that deserves some praise for authenticity. I think what people dont like about mafia 3 is it deviated from being in the Italian mob. I think if Lincoln was in the black mob the whole game then it would have been better than going after the italian mob.

(Some, not saying all players) People also didn’t like that we went from two white MCs to a black MC when the games revolve around white people. Didn’t want to go the race route but some of the criticism I’ve seen this game get had to do with Lincoln’s race. Pair that with gameplay that was repetitive (it makes sense WHY it was) for a lot of people and you get a game that some people tend to want to forget it even existed.

This game was actually pretty accurate in some ways with racism. Legit you have to do more and most of the work and take over the whole damn state on your own pretty much while everyone else just tells you what to do 😂 like what?! I ain’t your fucken slave!? Even during the first mission, the first thing you do during the tutorial is learn movements while being told by the white guy you work with to get the keys for the truck… Of course you have to drive and be the white mans chaffeur… what makes it funnier is how he’s standing closer to the keys but he’d rather order and tell Lincoln to do it cause it most likely makes him feel superior and in control….which proves in itself how fricken racist and lazy af he is🤣as the game later reveals

small nitpick- your main antagonist is not Dixie Mafia but regular italian Mafia. Dixie Mafia is just its subsidiary controling few districts. 3 out of 10 or something like that

I remember getting this game on ps4 when it was free through ps plus, and alot of people were telling me that mafia 3 is either their least favorite in the series or just down right bad, so I gave it a shot and honestly I feel like the games story is amazing it felt like a documentary, however the game's biggest problem was the repetitive gameplay I wouldn't mind if it was an optional thing but the fact that the story is locked behind it is just not my cup of tea, the soundtrack is amazing and I love the dlcs with my favorite one was stones unturned

Yeah, their impressive ability for story, acting, and work to make the time period and graphics as good as they are (even by today's standards) definitely took a toll. Luckily they seem to have figured out a balance with the Mafia 1 Definitive Edition releases - probably because they realized going open world is hard, and went back to tightly focused linear storytelling.

I would just like to point out that the Dixie mob is just one faction in the game. They're the group running the hollow and the bayou. The group Lincoln is overall trying to take out is the Marcano crime family, which is a separate entity to the marconos. They just allow them to opporate in exchange for kick up.

Playing through the Mafia series for the time this year myself (late, I know) and though I'm not done with Mafia 3 just yet, I can honestly say that this is ny favorite entry of the series so far. And one of the favorites out if all of the ones I've played thos year so far. Really wished this game has a New Game+ mode. Going to suck doing all of this stuff over and over again.

I'm kind of surprised how you glossed over the very harsh historical discrimination Italians faced in the US, still active at the era and referred to them simply as simply a "white male" when they were definitely not seen as white at that point in time. Which is not that strange seeing as many Italians from the south of Italy as Sicily for example are closer to Arabs in phenotype and DNA than to northern Europeans, same with southern Spaniards. The US is a strange place where the turbulent history and suffering groups of a multitude of people and ethnicities seem to boil down to African Americans suffered and Jewish people suffered end of story. When this was far from the whole picture.

Personally I think that in terms of race, it hit too close to home to people. Although people are for the most part progressive, it needs to be at a pace that everyone can comprehend without putting ther own walls up. It this was launched just on steam as an independent developer launch, I feel like it could've had more potential. It would've been able to grow a fan base thay really enjoys the plot and they would've had room to expand. It was a valiant effort on the part of the development, but people just aren't there yet and no one is specifically to blame.
