What i loved about mafia, especially the first one, is that they took time to build up the story, you're really just a taxi driving nobody in the beginning, you dont get magically transformed into an action hero.. there's a real sense of progression.. or atleast thats how i remember it :p

I loved the slower pace of 1 and 2, this is my most anticipated game for this year. I don't need a huge open world I had my filling with Ghost I'm just looking for a tight consistentntly good narrative and awesome characters. Ghost is my GOTY so far but the only other games I see coming close are this and CyberPunk of course.

Now they are developed on consoles and PC users get a dumbed down port that takes twice as much power as it should just to run it .... Hopefully with the next gen having an actual CPU and GPU on par with a PC we'll start seeing some decently running PC games again, especially with Microsoft's unification of DX 12 so there is little difference between a PC and a console

@@cameronk7399 both the ps5 and Xbox series X have CPUs and Gpu's that are on par with high powered PC's, Some games could run easily on them based on GPU VRAM alone(16gb on both consoles) and the fact that their GPU's match a 2080-2080ti in terms of power, ps5 has the advantage of its instant loading times and Xbox has the advantage of game switching

In Mafia free ride alone i had a ton of fun, the game was a masterpiece in term of the story telling, atmosphere, characters. i actually loved the handling of the vehicles, i remember mapping the controls with a steering wheel with the stick shift, the handling felt realistic for me at the time. I was surprised to see that there was also a key for the clutch, it's was really useful for handling some insanely powerful unique cars like the crazy horse. Looking forward to see how many stuff they brought back with this remake.

I played the original with a keyboard and I loved it as well. I used manual gear shift which made chases a lot easier and more fun and I felt I have more control over the car. The whole driving was very simulation like and that was the best. I had to use the map to figure out which road to take to my destination and I learned the whole city after a while. It was truly an amazing experience. I am very disappointed how Hangar 13 fucked up Mafia 2 and 3. I don't have high hopes for this game.

I really hope they didnt make the cars fast, i remember it so fondly because the cars were so realisticly awful, usually pretty slow, heavy pig iron death traps with skinny tyres and rubbish brakes, the actual sports cars were actual death traps if you crashed at speed, real handfuls it felt authentic. The slowness allowed you to shoot out tyres, watch the cops lose control and wreck and enjoy the whole driving shooting more than any similar games.

This looks great. Loved the first two games. Mafia 1 in particular was one of my favorite games ever when I played it. And we aren’t going to get much Raytracing next gen!!! I think it’s funny how much talk there is about it but it’s still too expensive for 90% of the applications where it significantly upgrades the visuals. Sure, maybe next gen can do raytraced nearest camera puddle, or just reflections on the players vehicle. But I’m not holding my breath on Raytracing. I think the greatest visual leaps are going to come from other techniques for now. It looks great in Control but I feel like the entire aesthetic is built around the tech, kinda like Doom 3 and stencil shadows

Loundsify it absolutely does, but there’s a reason that every game since didn’t use fully dynamic stencil shadows. It really only works in those dark constrained corridors. The expense of raytraced lighting and reflections gets out of hand really quickly in many types of common environments too. We’ll get there. It is the future of game lighting tech. I just don’t think we’re 100% there yet. It should be used when it makes sense but not shoehorned into every scenario just cuz it’s a buzzword.

I just played it for the first time. Those reflections are incredible! Better than many ray traced games! No really! Character, objects everything is reflected correctly. I had to google if mafia really doesn’t use ray tracing. I was convinced it is. Very impressive! I Love It!!

Most just add upgraded textures and maybe some lighting changes for instance AC 3 Remastered had the same wonky controls and even the same bugs as the original, all they did was "slap some new paint on it" ..... When I first heard they were remaking this game I wasn't at all excited but after I saw some previews and learned it was basically rebuilt from the ground up I'm definitely looking forward to playing this game again. This and GTA Vice City were two of the better games from 2002 but I tossed both CDs for those games years ago because graphically they were just hard to look at anymore because they were designed for at best 600x 800 resolution and CRTs and don't scale up to 1080p LCD screens worth a damn .... Fugly is the best term to describe them

Great lighting, volumetric effects and well made characters. Shadows are at most medium quality. Often the textures and polycount are (too) low. Tessellation would have helped a lot. Wish it had raytraced contact shadows and reflections. Car popups are annoying as well...

The original is still one of my favorite games, and the awkward engine often helped immersion in a weird way. I played the original release when it came out, and the best example of how I enjoyed the controls is that I beat the race the first time out and wondered what all the fuss was about! Better cover sounds nice, though, most of my frustration with the original was the cover mechanics. Luckily I found it fun enough to keep trying the combat over and over (unlike Mafia 3, which just seemed like endless cover shooter set pieces).

It's odd.. I'm usually fairly good at remembering games without nostalgia, i.e. I'm rarely surprised by how an old game actually looked. But in this case? The Definitive Edition looks great, but it's really similar to how I remembered the original Mafia... until you showed actual scenes from the original. Great job on the remake.

It's the story and characters I love in the original which seem to have been altered for the worse, in my opinion. The very Mafia 3 looking HUD and gameplay aren't doing it any favours either. Thankfully, I can still enjoy the original. There's still a charm to the gameplay, graphics, sound and animation.

So the city is based on Chicago, I need help identifying the tallest building in the city. It looks a bit like the Pittsfield Building but the top part resembles exactly like the Woolworth Building, which is in New York, so I'm a little confused.

All the cities in the Mafia series are fictional. They mix and match elements but never real full buildings.

I don't think that's necessarily bad thing, at least in terms of gameplay. It's hard to remember but when you go back to the days of the original Mafia, gameplay mechanics weren't nearly as polished and smooth as what is expected in modern games. There are some aspects of modern games that we could do without like DLC for stuff that should be in the game and loot boxes, but I don't think that is what is meant here.

They should remaster Hidden & Dangerous 2. I think it was by the same team and had an incredible level of polish and attention to detail along with one of the most fun coop experiences I've had in a game (depends partly on how into it your friends are, of course).

Looks like this trip down memory lane will be awesome. I cannot really play the original game anymore, since its mechanics and world just haven't aged well. A carefully done remake is exactly what this classic deserves therefore.
