I love Maggie Smith's warm voice as well. I recently watched her in Stephen Poliakoff's "Capturing Mary." (you can find on KZbin). Ambiguous story, but Smith carries it well. Her voice is so *interesting* and *fascinating*...a pleasure to listen to. Judi Dench is warmhearted and I love how she shows such innocence and child-like vulnerability no matter how old she is. I think her prankishness behind the scenes is perfect foil to Maggie's serious and protective nature. They are true gems.

Sandra Martin Maggie Smith made a brief but moving tribute to Judi at the latter's BAFTA lifetime award evening. Both looked on the verge of tears. It is also here on KZbin.

6:25 I do particularly love Maggie's voice. I cant actually describe. Like its not super feminine or nasally or deep or high pitched....its just Maggie and so distinctive.

Her talking about wearing the same blouse three times makes me think of the meme about british media (tv shows and movies) all having just one wardrobe bc I think the same jacket has been seen on sherlock, doctor who, and something else but I cant remember

It must be so tedious at times to be interviewed, possibly wondering whether they'll actually be asked something that hasn't been asked of them before. Even when an actor is doing the promotional tour of a play/film and it's one long round of saying the same thing about their role over and over again. There must be times when they're thinking, ' Oh just go and see the effing play/film '. Russell Crowe is one actor who instantly springs to mind in that regard. These two wonderful ladies are always a treat to listen to ... even if at times they'd rather be at home with their feet up and with a glass of their preferred tipple close by.

When I look at these pictures I see that Toby Stephens (maggie's son) has her eyes&hair color but the rest is his dad,a great mix,he (imho) is gorgeous and an A list actor who should have several Baftas,Oscars,Golden Globes,Tonys,Grammys ,Emmys, this industry is so petty it sickens me,Toby wanted to make it on his own merit but the industry could be JEALOUS of his parentage both parents are esteemed actors. The male brits that have won these awards don't hold a candle to Toby (imo) why wasn't he given those scripts?????? I dare those fuckers to tell the truth.

The interviewer's musings on the skill of vocal acting in radio drama is rather intelligent. Not slosh.
