In the mid 80s in Canada when I was studying radio, television, film and music history, Lonnie Donegan's name was prominent in our study of modern music. His popularizing of skiffle music spurred young people to buy guitars and start their own skiffle groups. If it wasn't for him spearheading the skiffle craze I think there are a whole lot of famous people who wouldn't have become famous people. He showed that dreams were possible, no matter where you were. And that's just him as an innovator not to mention performing and writing.

His Father, Lonnie Donegan is a true legend of Rock and Roll. He sang what was called "Skiffle" music, which was a lot like what we called 'Rock-a-billy," a kind of proto-rock.. Lonnie was the man who inspired all those British guitarists to pick up the instrument. Lonnie leads us, directly, to Jimmy Page, Lennon, McCartney, Townsend, Jeff Beck and the rest of the 'British invasion."

Peter's speaking voice is exactly the same as his Dad and you can clearly hear his Dad in his singing voice too. As Tom said Lonnie's Skiffle held it's own against the incoming tide of Rock'n'Roll but not only that as evidenced here he was a fantastic songwriter.

Possibly the best to talent show moment ever, the sheer ability of Tom Jones at his age to sing live on the spot is incredible. Took my wife to watch him live a few years ago when he was in his mid 70’s. Out of approx 1000 women in the audience, he still had several knickers thrown onto the stage, and many of the grandmothers, daughters and female grand children would happily have done anything for him that night. You can’t help but admire his sheer talent, a true great.

Sir Tom Jones. What to say, except my deepest admiration! I've discovered Sir Tom Jones a few years ago. Again, actually. And more than I listen to him, the more I apreciate him. Prog rock, metal guy speaking.... But' I found out my love for Tom Jones goes long time ago. Supposedly, my aunts and uncle told me I was a fan of Tom Jones since I was four years old. I actually didn't speak any English then, but my two favourite songs were, and, of course, I sang them, were Green Grass of Home, Dalillah and I'll Never Fall In Love Again.

This moment, call it a coincidence, fate or whatever - I really think that the spirit of Lonnie Donegan created this moment (you could see how Peter's Mom was tearing up). There was a time when you had artists like Elvis Presley and Tom Jones, people who by their very being and enormous talents, had no need for gimmicks. Voices like that comes along once in a hundred years. I saw Tom Jones in concert in 2022; his voice still a total miracle. At 82(!) years old, he still managed to convey more substance and emotion, than most artists combined today. Where have all the great singers gone…?

Tom Jones is a Welshman, singing is basically genetic there, before covid he was still touring. That is how a voice sounds when you keep exercising it and using it all your life, he loves his work.
