I read the other day someone saying that he had surgery to repair some kind of nasal blockage issue and that made it easier for him to sing as well. I don't have an original source for this, just passing along what another commenter said.

I was born in the mid-60s and grew up in the 70s, so MJ & The Jackson 5 were a VERY big part of my childhood. As a result, I believe this is the best of their Evolution videos. I think my actual all-time favorite MJ song (it's hard to choose) is probably Ben, which unfortunately wasn't in this collection. Kevin actually sings in several PTX songs. Imagine, Mary Did You Know, Amazing Grace, Say Something, & The First Noel all come to mind immediately. When he first joined the group, he had never sung at all. At some point (I don't know the details), the other members heard him sing in that pretty tenor voice and encouraged him to start singing for real. Both Avi and Mitch gave him some voice lessons and the rest is history.

If you haven't, you really need to react to their perfomances on The Sing-Off, which is where they got their start. In fact, if they did this on that show, Shawn Stockman would probably just stare in shock before saying, "Kevin, where the heck were you hiding that, boy?"

The first time I remember Kevin singing was in their video of the "Little Drummer Boy," which they elevate from a stodgy, cliche'd Christmas standard to a spritely, cheerful, upbeat but soulful ballad that's amazing. He also sings in Amazing Grace, which I believe you've reviewed. And if not, why not? In any case, I love your voice and admire your intelligent and enthusiastic commentary. Keep it up, please!

Kevin arranged this whole thing himself, just like Scott did the Evolution of Beyoncé. It’s the third medley they’ve used “ABC” and Kirstin sang it-it was in their Evolution of Music, and she also sang it in an opening number on The Sing-Off.

Saw Pentatonix in concert a few years ago, lovely performance. I caught up on a few of your reaction videos and noticed you covered "Tennessee Whiskey" and " A man of constant sorrow " If you are into interesting voices and blue grass / blues you might find some of the songs by Colter Wal fun. I'd suggest "The Devil wears a suit and tie" from his Original 16 brewery session.

Love your enthusiasm. So cute. ; ) kevin didn't used to sing because his mouth was VERY busy doing other important stuff, but also because he hadn't exercised it much in the past his voice was weak and didn't have much carriage. I understand they got a professional trainer not too long ago to strengthen and direct him and he's much better. He sings more on the recent works and does a lovely high baritone but prefers the even higher tenor, giving Mitch a run for his money. Mitch will enthrall you though, with his recent solo release of "Your Power". You NEEEEED to hear this one. Unearthly!!

My favorite MJ song is “Smooth Criminal.” I’m a bit of a gamer, and back in the day, one of my guildies who played a Hobbit burglar in Lord of the Rings Online used to sneak around in ridiculously high level and dangerous areas of the game and solo fight stuff designed for group content all by his tiny self. Hobbit burglar, so of course the natural soundtrack to these shenanigans was “Smooth Criminal,” complete with bouncing and skill activation in time with the music. Awesome and hilarious.

I have watched this before, and I thought the same thing then as I do now. When Kevin is singing he is not beatboxing. That role is so vital to their sound that having him sing a lot isn't really feasible. Also, if I understand it correctly, he had to become comfortable with singing. I think you have reacted to other songs he sings in: Mary Did You Know The First Noel Imagine Those are the other three that I can think of at the moment. There may be more. I know he has a speaking part in Sing, a PTX original. Have you reacted to any of those?

Kevin sang a little in Little Drummer Boy their first big Billboard number 1 chart topping song. Just like Avi you only get to hear him sing melody very occasionally.

@@maggiereneemusic No. It is good though I saw it quite awhile ago. Generally I follow Avi and not Pentatonix post Avi. He is hinting that something is going to come from him on Friday and we did get a picture of a video shoot setup.
