A most wonderful video tribute to "Magic Carpets" birth place. I have watched, first Maya as she struggled with the engine in her vessel, getting dad to help her out. Then as she meets Aladino and assists in the rebuild of "Magic Carpet", the joining of their lives, sailing the Med, crossing Europe, finding and starting the rebuild of "Magic Carpet ll", Back for a joyous summer of cruising in "Magic Carpet" once again, and as always Maya's wonderful playing. May this holiday season bring you joy and happiness, the year ahead be your best yet as you work again on "Magic Carpet ll".

I love the ‘pace’ of your editing. Let the scenes ‘breathe’. So many videos feel the need to fill the time with words. That made me think of the violin as synonymous with sailing. Beautiful wood crafted by hand in harmony with nature.

Such a beautiful boat you have! Indeed, owning a boat can feel more like being a steward to the vessel, and you two are incredible stewards to Magic Carpet! That beautiful song you played on the beach reminds me of a song called "The Littlest Doyle" by Andrew Finn Magill. On the very last day of sailing the Inside Passage last summer, I continued sailing into the night towards Nanaimo as the wind was just too warm and steady to leave behind for the evening. As I sailed into the darkness, which was softened by the glow of bioluminescence reflecting off the genoa, I listened to Andrew's album on repeat. His wonderful fiddle tunes heightened the emotions I was feeling that night as I contemplated the previous 4 months of sailing up and down the coast. This episode give me similar feelings as you both express your feelings of Magic Returning "home," and your fiddle music is a perfect background. Great episode!

Fantastic fun that you chose to sail through Askerö and Hakefjord. Many years ago I grew up by this fjord and went to school in Stenungsund. This part of Bohuslän (county) has great similarities with the Stockholm archipelago, although the mountains in Bohuslän are slightly higher and more massive and more similar to the Norwegian and Scottish landscapes.

Maya the sound of your voice, your choice of words, even your accent, add up to a wonderfully evocative experience for the viewer. You have a great storytelling ability. Thanks for your focus and auditory skills, an obvious love for feelings, music and story. Alanino, you make me smile the moment you open your mouth, you have a unique sense of humour that creates connection and likeability. Both of you compliment each other so well. But there's one question I have....why is fishing rarely mentioned in your videos? Do you ever catch amazing fish to eat from the back of the boat, like that salmon on your plate, did you catch it?
@777rogerf
@777rogerf Жыл бұрын
I'm always relieved when sailing YoTubers do not fish because the practice of human fishing has not yet entered the general culture. I recall as scene from a reality show set in Alaska. Four siblings were fishing from a skiff, but only one was catching fish, one after the other. From following the show, I knew that he was the only one who is practices humane fishing by quickly delivering a killing blow to the head. That way the the fish he caught do not die a horrible, painful death from lack of oxygen (the equivalent of human death by drowning). This also supported the belief of indigenous people that that wild creatures can voluntarily give themselves as food to humans who are in the right spiritual state.

What a surprise: you are visiting the shipyard in Sweden where my boat, an Omega 42, was also built in 1981! How I would love to be guided through the sacred Vindö halls with you two! Like Aladino, I would have descended into the cellar to examine the shipyard's archives more closely! Brilliant film - as always. You are simply my favourite sailing-storytellers. And the music by Maya brings so much poetry into it - a work of art! In every film I can see that you two love boats, love music and love each other!

That begs a question. Do you know where the omegas were built? Because I think I found some of the moulds laying around in lysekil but was not sure what boat they were from.
@bernfeld92
@bernfeld92 Жыл бұрын
@@SailingMagicCarpet There are two contradictory statements about the shipyard of the Omega boats. Sailboatdata says that the Omega boats were built in the "Vindo (Nötesund Varv AB)" on Henan Island. Today the shipyard is called "Regina af Vindö Yachts" and is located very close to Lysekil. In the documents for my Omega 42, however, I find the shipyard "Familjebåtar AB" in Saltsjöbaden near Stockholm. I think the second piece of information is more reliable, because various sources give the director of "Familjebåtar AB", Roffe Gyhlenius, as the initiator of the Omega boats. He then approached various designers, including Peter Norlin and Ron Holland.

It's so good to see you enjoying an extended trip on the Vindo known as Magic Carpet. I've been searching your eyes and expressions looking for a hint to see if you realise that possibly this may be your last journey on her as the Cape George 36 is nearing completion. I keep thinking that you just might get it seaworthy enough to sail into Canada where you won't be so time restricted. Just don't get locked into the past and keep looking forward. I keep wanting to prompt you to sail the Pacific as I know you will feel very Welcome among the many Islands. I'm an Australian and I know just how much you will fall in love with the Whitsunday Islands let alone sailing our eastern coastline. Keep safe!
